Natural Treatments In Place Of Eliquis
(Newest replies first)

Has anyone had good luck using alternative natural supplements instead of taking Eliquis? I've been on it for 4 months and it just keeps getting worse. All over body pain and weakness. Chest pain. Messes with my BP. Itching. Can't sleep. Nausea. Tingling in legs. No motivation. Headaches. Hair loss. Eye pain. Can't gain weight. It's awful. Any advice or help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have been on Eliquis for 4 1/2 years now. I had a cerebellum stroke. It has affected the left side of my body and i have a balance problem. I was on Warafin for 2 months that my Cardiac doctor puut me on but neurologist changed to Eliquis. Being on Medicare and many other drugs, I am so very careful getting my meds or I will end up in the donut hole. I hate being on so many meds and Eliquis is one of 3 that will put a person in the donut hole quickly. I do have stomache issues and wonder if it the drug, I also sleep a lot. I never did before the stroke. I wish I could get off myself but I was told I could have another stroke. I wish I knew if taking aspirin daily would suffice the eliquis.
My mother has AF and is 99 now. She’s been on Eliquis for Almost six years. Side effects hair loss , can’t gain weight. She’s down to 110 lbs from 2019 @ 139. She doesn’t complain of any pains. But I see her dwindling away. Doctors says Eliquis is best because she has AF along with CHF. The hospital took her off put her on low dose aspirin. Doctor says put her back on because of Stroke factor. Eliquis was best! I don’t know what to do anymore. Because of her age and conditions, I think they just feels she old and will die soon. It’s not helping us. I’m so upset over this Eliquis I could scream !!!

No longer on any prescription anticoagulants
I have tried both Eliquis and Xarelto with the side effects you mention including waking up with blood in my mouth when on Xarelto and not just a small amount. I was referred to a new cardiologist who suggested Edoxoban (Lixiana) as he felt it was better tolerated and after being on it for a couple of years now I have to agree with him. as most of the side effects e.g. bleeding, hair loss and nausea to name a few have stopped. Hope this is helpful.
Unfortunately, those are all fairly common side effects of Eliquis, according to the FDA, and in some cases, they have been so bad that people had to stop taking it.
Warfarin is often used to prevent the same types of clotting issues, but it does require regular blood draws to check your clotting factor, and frequent dosage adjustments. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, easy bruising, and increased risk of bleeding.
