My Husband Thinks I Am Hiding Depression Bc I Take Cymbalta

I take cymbalta for knee pain (after 4 knee surgeries). The cymbalta works ok for the pain, but my husband googled it and assumes I am hiding a mental health disorder. Has anyone had a similar issue? Not sure how to explain that I am taking a depression med for pain purposes.

Hi Jo, I am Suzanne. I agree your husband is making a deal out of the millions if people who sadly suffer this terrible disease Depression/Anxiety so on. I feel also with your full consent taking him to your GP for a run down on this wonderful medication is the answer. It is the sad truth that the uneducated people, do not understand or have a little compassion for the many victims needing this medication, for one reason or another. Btw please excuse me do not mean your Husband is the uneducated one. It is very sad for the sake of your pain management a medication that TRULY helps with SEVERE pain, and or other reasons is to be questioned for its purpose. I do fully understand his concerns for you on this matter, and he has every right to be concerned. However educated information from a specialist on this Cymbalta, or your GP is the best way for you and your husband. I have been taking this medication now for about ten years. I was very upset initially as I have enough medications in one's life. Weather this medication be used for Major Depressive Disorder, Depression, Nerve Pain, the truth is it does not matter. Your GP, Specialists have put YOU on this Hun, to help you through your dark days with PAIN. I have 120mg daily and without this I would be so lost & in uncontrollable pain and restricted mobilisation. I was put on this by a world sought after Rhematoligist, for Fibre Neuralgia, nerve pain in my body and to help control the pain pathways to and from my brain. I have missed a tablet or two over the many years & I promise you I cannot live without this very unique medication. I do not have Depression but in fact severe disc, along with bone degeneration throughout. I have many other health matters & medications also, but REST assured love, this is the BEST medication an does for a wide variety of purposes for many. I hear your hubby concern's also, but sad he has seen your use this way. Good luck & Best Wishes to you. Yes I suggest a big glass of water when taken and with food to lesser any side affects possible for you. :-)
Hello, Jo! How are you?
You could have him talk to your doctor by going to an appointment with you. Your doctor can talk to him and explain it, if you give them permission to do so.
The FDA lists the typical side effects for this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight gain.
However, it is a shame that he's making such a big deal out of mental health issues. They are nothing to be ashamed of and there shouldn't be any stigma associated with them.
Is there anything else I can help with?
