My Experience With Lyrica (Top voted first)
UpdatedMy spell check is on the blink so please excuse any errors! I had surgery In Sept of 2005 on my lower leg, resulting in nerve trauma and extreme stabbing hot and cold pain, in that area. It was almost impossible to walk. I had no relief from standard painkillers such as Vicoden and Ibuprofen. Lyrica was prescribed at 25 mg and provided incredible relief within 48 hours. It was increased slowly to 150 mg over one month. I am now- in Jan of 2007, slowly decreasing the medicine over a one month period, with good success so far. I would like some input or info on the side efects or any withdrawl issues. Also, how long does it take to get out of the system? My experience in total has been very favorable. I did have definite challenges with memory, and loosing my place in discussions with people. I gained 10 pounds, and also had a bit of blurred vision. Sleeping was MUCH improved with the sedative effect of the pill. Taking the full or split doses closer to evening is much better than in morning because of this. Drinking at all is NOT suggested, trust me on that! I have to say that the side effects were worth the trouble, as I was able to walk again and start a workout program. I am curious and hopeful to regain my previous level of concentration, sight and weight! My nerve pain is much improved, and at a very low level compared to pre-Lyrica. I hope that someone can answer my question, and people may benifit with some of the info I provided. ps I am a 35 year old male. Lyrica did also slow sex drive, looking forward to that returing as well!

Dave, i was on Lyrica for a while last year and it worked for a few weeks and slowly went down, started on 225 a day and dropped to one pill every other day and off. the same problems i had when i first started came back while taking the drug, well stayed off for a few months and the doc and i decided to try Lyrica again and it is working the same way, helping and hope it last longer this time, thehelp that is. sex drive is nil, and no matter what help i try, pills, the blue one and others, no help. the pain in my feet and hands are bad and worse and very bad and than ok for a while. I was told I had peripheral neuropathy, and the words of the doctor, well this is what you have and sorry to tell you we have no medical cure for i t , pain pills may help or others, this is from the specialist and my doctor, pc, is trying things. , so it may come and go but if it helps so be it, and some things have to well not good, but I can walk and sort of do exercises of a sort. just keep movimg. and have fun, if you can
Your are tapering down the right way. You need to watch for return of original symptoms. Since it was a surgical problem and not a diabetic one there is a chance that your nerve may have healed to an extent. If you get the pain back again, try to maintain on a low level, as you said you started with 25 mg and got good results, this may be all you need and memory and sexual function may not be affected or as affected.
