My Dr Took My Bottle Of Pills From Me And Wrote A Prescription For Another Pain Med (Page 3)

Updated

I saw my Dr. yesterday and called him because I was still in pain. He told me to come back and to bring the bottle of medication with me. He took the bottle of pain pills that I had paid for and wrote me a script for a different medication. Can a Dr. actually take someone's pills away from them like that?

Exactly! He cannot be liable for giving you another prescription especially pain pills! Paid for or not it doesn’t matter! These days especially with all the bs about pain pills!

Please people read the active ingredient and see if it is the same med. Also always check if meds are generic or brand name. Generic is a bit sus these days. Read up on them and find out how they are manufactured.

Not with pain pills! I was hooked on those many years! I take subutex and that formula has also changed. Since January of this yr everyone has cracked down the system, the drs, the pharms and fda. All of the sudden everything will kill you, ridiculous it is! Since Michael Jackson a lot of ma and pa drs closed their doors! Prince dying and so many others were allowed to take the pills for so long and now people who have pain the worst can’t get the pain pills or the quantity and all these genetics came out that don’t work! No one should have to beg for pain pills if they are suffering with terminal diseases, disgusting!!

This “crisis” started in the early to mid 2000s. Where have you been? It actually started in the late 90s but the doctors didn’t become aware of it for years later.

It all depends on the doctor. I think they are supposed to take and dispose of the unused pills if writing a new script for increased dose or whatever. My doctor doesn't but he told me to get rid of them. I was getting alot of scripts over the last 6 months or so with my ADD meds. My doctor was changing my meds from Adderall ir to Vyvanse then upping the dose. When that didn't work I went back to Adderall xr then trying to find a dose that works. I had gotten a bunch of scripts and because I didn't do it in a shady way I was able to. Eventually I had my dose upped again this past month and I got a pharmacist that I didn't know who really looked into it hard. She wouldn't fill it and I have to wait now. So now I'm not messing with my dose anymore.

Hi,

Where have I been? In Washington state I started the bups in 2012. Before that I had no knowledge. In this state they the drs told me to get ready for some changes starting 1/1/19. not only for the bups but for everything! Every thing I have been on for yrs all of the sudden, is going to cause a lot of life changes down the road. It’s ridiculous it really is!

Re: Jdsj (# 38) Expand Referenced Message

Benzo's has nothing to do with pain pills ( opiates) & she/he had just received the script the day prior to telling dr. That they weren't strong enough; Dr. was caring enough to write a new script for a stronger narcotic- they could have told the doc they would prefer to keep the script they just paid for INSTEAD, but by NO MEANS does the DOC have to put his self on the line by giving extra pain meds to anyone!! This is A HUGE Part of the problem here; you people think you are entitled to get what you want, and when you don't YOU want to make trouble!! Turn the dr in, ect... Here's a Dr. that actually seems to care about treating the patient's pain, but that isn't good enough.... ??????

How do you know they went to good use? You sound ignorant saying that. He cannot take your meds and use them for himself. Just because they can’t write themselves their own scripts, they would go to their own doctor for a script for pain. If he takes a patient's meds from them and uses it himself then he is breaking the Law and who would want a doctor who breaks the law taking care of them.

What PLANET do YOU practice medicine on!? He or she had just gotten the NARCOTIC pain meds filled, but wanted something stronger- the Dr. had no problem writing the new, stronger narcotic after taking the meds that person claimed did not work! NO, he doesn't have to pay for new prescription, and YES not only does he have a right to take the previous bottle of meds- he should! Also, if he had not of taken the previous bottle of pain meds- the pharmacy can refuse to fill new script without account of prior pills; they have to all protect themselves from being liable from overdose, legality...

Re: timster (# 19) Expand Referenced Message

I had a similar situation..So I filled my script of a controlled sub. And the brand was one I had never seen before. Needless to say it gave me horrible side effects and I didn’t even want to take my medication it was so bad, I called the pharmacy who said call the doctor and explain. So after doing so I went to my doctors and he asked if I had the meds on me and I said yes sir and handed them to him he then read the took a quick look at the bottle popped it open and poured a handful into his hand and then back into the bottle then immediately wrote me a new prescription, and I filled it that day. Never signed a paper never did anything besides hand my bottle over wich he kept and wrote the new script and I left..

A physician can't just "take" your medication, at the same time they don't have to write you a new prescription. Ethically, especially in this day and age, the physician did the right thing. I would have done the exact same thing.

Re: Jdsj (# 38) Expand Referenced Message

Don’t be so sure. The U/A I take at pain management knows the difference between xanax and restoril, for example.

Re: Coco (# 49) Expand Referenced Message

How do you assume the new script was for a stronger dose? It may have been for a non generic so the doc may have just changed to a a tab from a different drug company ( not pharmacy).

Re: rosa211 (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

They are not Xanax. They are TEVA original formula Clonazepam. Do not give your friends YOUR MEDS. They are written for you and your condition. And you will need them. If your friends keep taking them then you won’t have them left when you do need them. These are a long acting benzodiazepine. They are mainly used for seizures and anxiety. I take them for seizure disorder and anticipatory anxiety disorder. I’ve been on the same dose for 10 years. The green ones were better than some of the blue generics that have been out there recently. But no they are not the same as Xanax. Xanax works almost immediately why as clean as a pan takes a wild to become active in your system. You also need to take regularly. That way you have a steady amount in your bloodstream.

But please do not share your meds. First of all if you get caught you will get cut off from that prescription. Second of all if something should happen to one of your friends that takes them, you will be held responsible in a court of law. Your doctor has a prescription of pain meds that were originally written for you. He could sell them on the black market or he could be taking them himself. That is so highly illegal and unethical. It would be one thing if you saw him dispose of them in front of you. But I believe you did not see that. If he has a reputation with doing this with patients. Then it sounds and looks like he has a problem. If it looks like a duck and it quacks like a duck, then it usually is a dock. And in this case it looks like the Dr. is the dog and the doctor has a pain medication problem or addiction.

No he cannot do that. If he wanted you to stop taking them he should have told you to take them back to the pharmacy and they would dispose of them properly or give you a packet that you put in your pill bottle and add water to it so it is safe to dispose of without harming people or animals. But he cannot do that. I would definitely report him.
