My Son Is Taking Erivedge For 4 Months (Top voted first)

Updated

My son has been taking Erivedge for 4 months. His facial hair, eyebrows re thinning. His hairline is receeding. I have heard some people take this medicine for 6 months and off 6 months. I am afraid if he stays on it full time -- he will loose all of his body hair and I am afraid of what this will do him. I have heard people on Chemotherapy take 5,000mcg Biotin. Has anyone tried this to help counteract the affects of hair loss. Would taking this medicine for 3 months on and 3 months off help to couteract the affects of hair loss while keeping the cancer at bay?

Hi everyone! I have been on Erivedge for six years now. I'm actually one of the top patients that helped get it approved by the FDA. I have read all your posts and have and still going through everything you are! My BCC started when I was 15 with the cysts in my jaw. I have had more cancers removed that I don't care to remember. I'm 47 now. Before erivedge got its name,it was a number and part of a study I was on. It has been a tiring journey and just like you I have all the side effects. I'm female and totally hairless. I have heard of people skipping months but unfortunately my doctors said I can't.

I don't think the hair loss is temporary. From what I understand, Eviredge blocks the gene which is needed for hair growth, so I think as long as one is on the medicine, there will be no regrowth of hair. This is one of my biggest fears of using it, especially since I am a female.

Hair loss can be a very common side effect of Erivedge, but what you really have to consider is which is worse, the temporary hair loss, or letting the cancer be out of control?

Learn more Erivedge details here.

As to cycling the time periods he takes it, adding Biotin or doing anything else, I can only refer you to his doctor to get more information. With such a complicated medical history, it isn't safe for anyone else to change his treatment plan or add anything, even a seemingly innocuous supplement.

How severe was his BCC?

He has had 3 surgeries to remove tumors in his jaw. Lost a number of teeth but not disfigured. He had a great oral surgeon. Multiple basal cell cancers removed and Laser procedures on his face and back each season. I guess I did not get the impression the treatment and hair loss is temporary. I hope that is the case. I appreciate your response.

Hi, I have had cancer about 15 years ago and because of having radiation treatments for over a year. My body where I had the treatment is getting lots of BCC. I talk Thursday with the the oncologist about this medication. Not really sure what to do take it or don't take it nd deal with the surgeries. I'm wondering how can it be good for you to take this pill it seems to me it's like swallowing a cup of radiation ?

My son just stopped taking the medicine this week. Too soon to see hair regrowth but, I will post with updates on his progress. I am hoping after 6 months off - his hair regrows and he may be able to stay on the medicine 2 months on and 2 months off since his hair loss did not begin until after 2 months.

PJ. Has your son regrown his hair since you last posted? I took Erivedge from Dec 2, 2012 to May 17, 2013 and I lost my beard, nose hairs, leg hair, eyebrows and my scalp hair is still falling out and has thinned greatly.

It is now 2 July 2013. I am anxious to have my hair back. The manufacturer is non-committal on informing if the hair loss is permanent or temporary. Does anybody have experience with this?

It has been six months since my son stopped taking the medicine. Most of his hair has grown back but, I notice his hair on his face, chest, legs and eyebrows is not like before. His hair was so thick that the hair on his head seems fine but, I can see it is not as thick as it was. I also noticed 2 of his skin cancers are back. I am concerned about them putting him back on the medicine or another 6 months because I feel each time he will loose more and more hair permanently. I still feel 2 months on and 2-4 months off would keep cancers at bay and help him to not loose more hair. I have heard that someday they hope 2 months on may be an option and that one day they hope to IV the medicine into the skin cancers instead. I hope they work towards that. My son posted for 2 jobs and I truly believe he did not get the positions because of the hair loss. He got a 2nd interview for one of them and the hair loss was extreme at that time. I believe he did not get the job because they did not know what to make of it... was he sick... on chemo... If they ask my son to go back on the medicine -- I have asked him to press for a 2 month on each 6 month period.

Do the side effects wear off? Or do you just get used to them (to a certain extent)? I'm mostly concerned about the nausea/vomiting/diarrhea, I work in healthcare and prefer not to appear ill in front of patients. How long did it take to get acclimated to the side effects (if you did)?
