My Mother Is 87, And Is In A Rehab Center. Help!
Updatedmy mom is in a quack rehab place. they are giving her lasix for water retention and restricting her water to
1200 cc's per day and giving her sodium tabs 3 times a day. it sounds like some has their head where the sun doesn't shine. she never had edema in her entire life.
she fell and broke a hip. and I think these people are going to kill her, out of stupidity, not maliciousness. help!

Have you spoken to her doctor(s) about your concerns?
It is a misconception that someone needs at least 2 liters of water daily, because you also take in fluids in other ways, such as in what you eat.
If they have a concern about her retaining fluid, or possibly developing congestive heart failure, then it is normal for them to restrict her fluid intake and to use the Lasix to help draw out any excess.
The amount she needs would be calculated according to her activity levels and the amount she takes in from her daily diet and by monitoring her fluid output.
