My Doc Will Not Refill My Xanax Im Feeling Sick (Page 6)

I was prescribed Prozac & Xanax 10 years ago by my psychiatrist for depression & severe panic attacks. He started me on 1mg 3 times a day. Around Dec 2005 he increased my daily dose to 1 mg - 4 times a day. I have been a patient of his now for 10 years where I see him every 3 months. Through the years, there has been a few times were I had to call to reschedule my appointment and a couple of times he had to do the same. He would call in my meds for the amount I would need to get me through to my next appointment. This month I had an appointment for May 27th I called to reschedule due to transportation. I do not drive now and my ride canceled on me. so, I rescheduled my app. for June 17th I then requested my meds be called in until my appointment, a 3 week supply. She said she would call me back when it was called in later that day. Not hearing anything I called back the next day to find out what was going on. I was told my doctor feels uncomfortable due to liability reasons to re-fill my medication, until I see him again in June. I asked her what about the liability to take me off medication I have been taking for 10 years? She told me to go to my primary physician to get my meds. I told her my primary care doctor will not prescribe me those medications without my medical records from this office and I just signed a medical release form a few days ago at my first appointment with this new primary doctor, so she told me to go to an urgent care if my symptoms became to uncomfortable for me to deal with!! I had enough xanax to last me until today. I took my last xanax this morning and I am already starting to feel sick, my head feels cloudy, I feel like I'm getting the flu. My heart is racing, I'm feel really anxious & closed in. Has anyone out there gone off xanax cold turkey what more should I expect? I don't understand how a doctor can prescribe medication like this for 10 years and just make you stop so suddenly it doesn't seem fair. I have lost trust in my doctor now and I don't think I can continue to be his patient anymore. I am scared and I don't know who to turn too.

yes thank you for that information about ECMDn and the phone# but you can ask for a Dr in you town, right? but you cant just call and ask if the Dr they give you will prescribe what you need! they would call anyone a Dr shopper, so what do you ask? thanks

I am sorry but you cant fail an ekg, and # 2 why didn't you tell them what was going on with you? you could of died? they would of helped you with a different benzo nobody should ever, and I mean ever wait that long seizures can cause death from benzo withdrawal

I am not being rude please believe me, but who in the heck would give you 8 zanax a day? unless you are taking more then prescribed how many MG? my daughter is on 3 1 mg Xanax a day and her Dr said if she needs to have more then he would give her something else stronger like what I have been on clonopin sorry but your Dr should never dose you that high, and leave you in a lurch, meaning with out! he should help you. You must be on a contract, and just ate more then he told you, so you ran out to soon, and he just wont re=fill till it is time, I know. You could say you had to take a few more because you have been more stressed then usual, but he should give you a few more till its time call again good luck. tell him you don't want to have a seizure.

well ive come to the conclusion that my dr is a pill pusher. yes if been on xanax a very long time and with what is wrong with me. most drs insist i take them. i told him i didnt want to take so many pills a day. then he gives me more. od like to wean off them slowly. i know it will take time. probably looking at about a year to do so. id wish the drs knew then what an addictive drug this was. i reslize ill be on then perhaps the rest of my life. but id love to be down to 3 one mg a day. it takes a process i know but anything beats a withdrawl from them. i started yesterday with the new 2 mg. after 5 days of not having my zanax i was able to only take 3 2mg and felt fine. i have the extra just in case. but im going againist drs orders! if i dont feel the need to take. more and im staying calm on just the three 2mg. it will be alot easier to come off from or at least lessen the extreme amount i need to take.

found out since I am on Medicare because of my accident, that I joined Kaiser, My daughter is medical too, and she did her extern there, they don't even believe in vicodin, they said it is like taking Tylenol, so on Feb 1st the administrator said before I run out of what ever my Dr that dropped me gave me. they will just fill all the meds I was given by him, and when I get established with my own Md there, then if the Md or I want other meds or different meds then they will take care of me, they said no one in chronic pain or on meds 10 yrs like what I have been on, should ever just be cut off. Thank The Lord. I just don't know why he dropped me after all these years, I never lost em never called early, I just don't understand. its a new comer there who got hired while still in school, and he never really liked me, I think it's odd to have a 19-20 year old MA in the doctors office anyway. but he would tell lies, that's all I can think of. good luck to you all, try Kaiser in your state if your on Medicare, not state aide they wont help then. only Medicare.

yes u will start cramping ,pukeing,insomnia,cant eat,and you could possibly have seizures you could die from these withdraws u should go to youre pharmacy and get a print out it will state all these things i just stated ,,,take that print out to yore doctors office with you ...it states do not stop taking this medacation he will have to fill the prescription or he could be liable i no i take the same medacation...

lilwildcat good for you, But it's hard enough to get 1/2mg of Xanax, let alone 2 mg more then 3 times a day, that is scary and dangerous, good luck on weaning off, it's hard to do unless you give them to your mother or husband or someone in your family to not give you more then 2 a day no matter what you say, I helped some one get off of an other medication doing that, and it worked. good luck tho may I ask what you are taking them for?

eddie who are talking to? all MD's can write for any drug. any drug they choose, but one clinic I went to said they don't believe in writing for methadone, but anything else he would give me medical assistants cannot write, they don't have a license too. only doctors.

Jennifer did the ER give you the Xanax? or did they just help you and send u to a Dr.may I ask? going to be going thru the same problem cuz my dr of 10 years dropped me and gave me one last refill, 30 days isn't much time to find an Md, plus I hate Dr shopping, now with the new FDA computers they can see all dr' that you have been too.

I feel sory for anyone who would have to go cold turkey off xanax. It dangerous. Ive been on benzo's for 20 years or more. I was taking valium before they came out with xanax around 85. I had to go 3 days without one time and the first day not to bad the second day panic attacks, hands feet sweating, sick on stomach, etc.. the third day it felt like somebody was ripping the flesh off my bones, puking, thought i was going to have to go to er. believe it or not benadryl helps with the withdrawal..lots of benadryl..If you have been taking for 10 years I would do what you gotta do to get some to hold you over. ER, trust me after 2 days you will have to do something. Sometimes I think these doc's are on a power trip. I dont know but thats wierd for a doctor to cut you off cold turkey. I would go to his office apointment or no apointment. Good luck hope you get stright cuz I would rather go through H withdrawl then benzo.

Dawn, I am currently dealing with the very same issue, going on for like two months now. I couldn't see my psychiatrist at our scheduled time even though when we booked the appt I told him I may need to cancel because I'm starting a new job. Well the time came around and of course I called before 24 hours in advance to cancel because I had to work. It was my monthly appt so I was due for a refill. He's been prescribing me Prozac and Xanax daily for over a year. He refused to refill my script unless I came in to see him but my only days off are Thursdays. He had nothing available for three or four more weeks. Which forced me to go off the Xanax cold turkey. I began severe withdrawals and two days later had a seizure and woke up in the hospital with my lisence taken away etc. I called and told him about what happened and not only did he say he doesn't believe I had a seizure, he also fired me as a patient. I'm currently reporting him and got my primary to refill a month supply of it while I'll be out of in a day or two and still trying to find a new psychiatrist. Quitting cold turkey is serious and can cause seizures. Nobody is willing to take responsibility for the liability of these damn meds I had no idea would even harm me like this or make me become dependant on in the first place. I need to slowly cut down and eventually get off of them but clearly cold turkey is not the way to go. It is a serious matter and should be taken as an emergency. My advice: get a new psychiatrist ASAP!!

Jennifer send you shrink the hospital report then he will believe you they have to legally give you a months supply before they cut you off and let you know no more refills and ask why and what you did wrong, but ya your right very serious drug to stop cold turkey and scary.

morgayne after filing out that long stupid form, from which I have never in my life heard of, did you fill it out? and also did you get a re-fill after filling it out? it has nothing to do with Obamas health care that is so stupid, I am sorry but that office is nuts, they do and can make you fill out a drug contract, that says you will not see an other Dr while under there care, or get meds from another Dr. But never heard of something so stupid!! sorry you went through that.

I agree with you is very very bed that the doctor stops you like that he did the same to me but I haven't been taking it that long and I feel dizzy nauseated nausea and thats a about it I guess I consider myself lucky but I drink ginger ale which calms the stomach down and plenty of water maybe I took some vitamin C I know carrot juice helps me so I hope you feel better soon

I hate to sound like a know it all Never Never tell anyone to take Benadryl for benzo withdrawal. I did that, I am photo light sensitive and took some Benadryl thinking since I was out of Xanax, I could just run to the store with my daughter and get something, as soon as I walked in I told her I don't feel well and to please hurry and pick up what I needed, when she returned to me and my shopping cart I told her I think I am going to have a seizure never having one but I told her to catch me and to call 9-11 and to not be afraid I felt so horrible for her, I would never want her to see that again, now I don't have a Dr after 10 yrs he dropped me but I was taking klonopin which is longer lasting and stronger, I a terrified now so please don't take anything go to ER they will help with that fir sure.

the drug contract is about the new FDA regulations, it sucks I lost 35 Lbs. since my dr giving me pain meds and klonopin and temazapam for sleep and muscle relaxers because of a botched back surgery, this new Dr I am seeing wont give me benzo's he wants to wean me from 180 mg of methadone for pain to 40 mg and also no muscle relaxers, or sleeping pills I have been trying to get a hold of the chief of staff there and talk to him or the CEO, but that Dr is like a Nazi I hate him, he has never even examined me, and since I lost all this weight from pain, he made me take a u/a and I got the bill and it said checking for meth. I was appalled I am 59 yrs old and have been on this all for 10 years what an ass, when I get my next pain script, I am calling the state board and turning him in for malpractice I have a rod, pins, and screws in my back, and walk bent over because I cant stand straight, I also got oxycontin for break through pain now nothing. can this be real? I feel like this is a big bad dream.

I'm a veteran,I recently was assigned a new PC,I was receiving my chronic pain medication,atvian(for sleep),diazepam (much spasms) Sudafed because the new physician doesn't believe in these medications, she discontinued all of them. I needed a PC for consultation issues,I wasn't seeking drugs yet,our VA houses a drug program which adversely affects all veterans if you take controlled medicine.I sought help through congress,they were useless ,now I'm told I have to deal with it.The physician never gave me a chance to explain why I needed to be seen,she assumed it was only drug related.I was already getting them,(we recently lost our pharmacist in the pain clinic) for 11months I've attempted to get help with sciatic pain,I fell twice,and no one is listening,instead of hearing my needs,and ordering an MRI the physician stopped all the medicine that was allowing me to function.

Health care is only going to continue to decrease, for a patient to be treated anyway a physician wants yet, if we feel unsatisfied they tell us just deal with it. Four years ago,a doctor took away my medicine,I had a better congressman then,but the pain got so bad I asked a cop to shoot me to stop me from hurting,somehow physicians don't realise how much damage they do when they show no compassion and don't treat the whole person. VA doctors get away with abuse, discrimination, and nothing is done, yet let a veteran raise their voice,we can be given a federal ticket and arrested. Is that fair?
