My 12 Yr. Old On Adderall Is High Strung At Night (Top voted first)

He is on 20 mg in the morning, and by 7:00 at night his behavior is more aggressive, high strung, obnoxious, compulsive. After about 2 hours of this behavior, he usually falls asleep. He takes depakote and lamictol for bipolar disorder as well. When is mental health research going to come up with a way to diagnose and treat? Right now it takes a highly experienced doctor with a brain packed with knowledge to even begin to know what med, how much, and how to change the plan when it is not working very well. There are very few that can do this, but even finding a children psychiatrist your insurance will cover is next to impossible. What do I do. Is there a way to decrease the negative effects that occur in the evenings? Should another ADHD med be tried?

I have 3 kids that are adhd and we run into that same problem. So i asked my doctor and he told meistead of the kids takeing sleeping pills buy melatonin it's in the vitamin section in your stores it works wounders.Hope it helps

My son with bipolar disorder is now on Lamictol and Lexapro. He is doing tons better not being on ADHD meds. This tells me that he truely has a mental disorder. Pills? They are a definate in my book and have saved many lifes of people with mental disorders. ECT treatments can work miracles. You need to have the disorder before you can judge what is best for the disorder.

Those can be normal side effects when someone is taking a stimulant, such as this, whether they are a child, or an adult.

The FDA does warn that it can cause insomnia, nervousness, insomnia, dizziness, and headache.

Nike12, ECT is not for everyone, though it has worked wonderfully for some people, but as with any medical treatment, you should always research it, before agreeing to undergo it.

It makes me sad that doctors have a solution and that means pills. I understand if your kids take medicine to concentrate...I was the same when I was younger and I am a parent but to give your kids sleeping aid is NOT a good sign of anything. I feel like every solution is a drug to our kids now. I dont want my future kids, to be on pills
