Muscle Or Joint Pain (Top voted first)
UpdatedI have been using fenofibrate for about 4 months. About that same time I started having sharp pain in my left hip area. I thought it might be a hip problem but it seems to be more like a muscle in the top of my buttocks to my very lower back. At times it seems to be more pronounced in the front side like my upper groin area. Sometime the pain lessens some if I am doing more physical activities during the day like mowing the lawn and working around the garden. I have also just in the last couple of days been having severe soreness in my right shoulder deltoid area. I just saw that the fenofibrate can cause some muscle aches. I stopped taking it a few days ago (my Dr.told me to anyway when the last prescription ran out)
My question is if these are side effects from the fenofibrate how long should it take for them to go away after discontinuing the medicine.
Thanks so much for your help,
Marty

it took a month for my pain to begin easing.
drink lots of water to speed up the process!
I stopped fenofibrates a year and four months ago, it ruin my knees, the muscle of my legs, incredible pain, stiffness and damage my ciatic nerve, I will have total knee replacement in my right knee, I have to wait between six to nine months for surgery and propably my left knee will have to have surgery too, all this problems thanks to the fenofibrates 160 mgs I took for a whole year, nobody is responsable except me, I would like how can I reverse this problem, cause before I was healthy.
I took this drug for 5 doses. After 2nd dose started to feel pain in upper shoulder and arm, pain in back and like my sciatica was flaring up. I have. Fibromyalgia and told my doctor I could not take statins. She put me on Fenofibrate and told me it would not react like the statins did. I've stopped it five weeks ago and still in excruciating pain. Going to my pain doctor Tuesday to get an injection in my spine hoping that will help. I'm afraid the fenofibrate caused a fibromyalgia flare do not know how long it will last. So disgusted with these drugs .
Hello, Marty! How are you?
It may take a week or two, before all the side effects wear off. If it was due to the medication, you should start to notice a gradual improvement, before the pain eases altogether.
How long have you been off of it, now?
Hi Verwon,
Thank you very much for your reply. Today will be 4 days since I have taken it. Guess I'll just have to give it some time and see if it was the medication or just getting old.
Thanks again,
Marty
Thank you Doug. That gives me a little more hope it just hasn't been long enough for it to go away rather than a hip problem or something. lol
Thanks again for the information.
I have been on Fenofibrate 160 mg for years. I have had stomach issues also for years. I started going to a Chiropractor for joint pain that's started to become more of a problem. My cholesterol has been completely within normal limits for years. Asked internist about stopping med and she looked at me and shook her head!! I truly did not understand why not try and recheck lab and if backup get back on. No more questions asked! But that wasn't the case. I stopped it on my own about 2 months ago. I'm now having much worse leg, hip, knee pains. Also the diarrhea and nausea is awful. Have had normal colonoscopies, labs. Also had thyroid remember last Dec. Thought it was cancer but wasnt. Since this happened my body has been thrown for a loop. Have never felt so bad since having that done! Any advice would be appreciated!
I have the same experience with Fenofibrate. Stopped taking a week ago. Still have bad pain in left hip running down leg. Also, tight, pain in lower leg. Pain seems to actually have increase in past week. I hope it goes away soon.

That's my life what you said thank you! From this med.

The exact same thing has happened to me. I told the Dr. I could not take Statins. I have a variant of myotonic dystrophy. When they put me on them over 10 years ago by 6 wks I could not hardly move. My rehab med. Dr. told me to get off them and never take them again. It took over a month about 6 wks to start feeling better. My Dr. now also told me Fenofibrate would not do this. I've been on them for 2 months. I was at the point I couldn't even walk more than 1/8th of a block w/o stopping due to severe leg pain, weakness & shortness of breath. We decided I needed spinal surgery (I've had back problems for years) so my Neurosurgeon did a 24 hr. nerve block first to ensure we had the right spot. IT HAD ZERO EFFECT. Decided it was a pelvic problem. So have tests coming up. Sitting watching TV this morning and a commercial came on for a Statin drug, they were mentioning side effects and I immediately thought about the Fenofibrate & remember the Dr. said it's different than Statin. So started looking on internet and wanted to slap myself in the forehead. Bingo!!! Can't believe I'm in this position again only worse. I just hope there is no permanent damage.
I have been having hip, it keeps me up at night and back pain and my whole skeletal system, I have trouble getting in and out of the car. I am 50 and feel like a 95 yr old. I'm not even sure if 95 is an understatement as my father is 93 and has no bone issues..he's never taken medication in his life, sharp as a tack and in great health! I have complained to my doctor, but she tells me its lack if exercise, however the longer I walk the more pain I am in. I feel like I have acquired RA. Do I need to wean off this med or can I just stop taking it?
