Yes pharmacy's here in Okla choose not to stock most pain medicines. I think most hospitals have an in-house Pharmacy. Maybe check your local hospital?? Hopefully they fill your morphine presriptions.

I have no idea where you got the info that 60mg morphine sulphate is the highest dose that one can get outside of the hospital, as it is seriously wrong. Just over 1 year ago I took 9 100mg morphine sulphate and another 6 pills per day of 30mg instant release morphine. I have spent this time coming off of it, as I felt it ruined any semblance of who I was and why I am here. I can get away with 1 15mg morphine sulphate about every 40 hours at this point with no serious side affects. By serious, I mean I'm not puking my guts up, and bring carried to hospital by ambulance bcuz I forgot a single dose. I beg all of you, do not abuse your body with this horrid drug. Withdrawal for over a year...think about how you want to spend your life, as pain is all encompassing, but so are high doses of any narcotic. If I can do this, anyone can. Best of luck to all.

I have chronic neuropathic pain. I have found neurontin, and methadone (5mg) to have helped in the past. recent pain worsened so doctor put me on this morphine sulfate 15mg 3 times a day. I cannot answer all of the questions here, but I have had great success with eating pears in the evening and if constipation persists then go to Plum juice recipe: included :

Recipe 1 cup applesauce 1 cup coarse, unprocessed bran 3/4 cup prune juice Mix all the ingredients together. They will turn into a pasty, stiff glop about the consistency of peanut butter. After mixing, it should be kept refrigerated. Take one or two tablespoons daily and wash it down with a full eight ounces of water.

I was on MS and Oxycodone for several years. I finally weaned myself off of both summer before last. I only took them when I had severe pain, usually from overworking by poor joints and muscles as I have both RA and Fibromyalgia since 2000. I now do less strenuous things but still have pain and just deal with it with over the counter pain killers when necessary. I did go through a few days of withdrawal but it was not that bad and you just feel "bad" for a few days and it goes away. For constipation I found eating a lot of Brown Rice helped keep things moving. Enemas were a constant solution as was a hand held bidet. We all do what we have to do. It's no fun but at some point we just have to live withe the pain the best we can especially as we age.

I had pretty much the same deal- -surgery and the the Morphine- - I am prescribed 100mch Fentanyl patches for long term (1 last 72 hrs) - -so while the morphine is working a little bit short term...the patches kick in and makes the pain bearable..ask the doc about them ... careful though. . Fentanyl; is a strong drug ,I have an incredible tolerance,, due too being on methadone for 2 decades(Im now off). . .
feel better

Don't worry about becoming addicted to the Morphine when you are using as it is intended. As in for relief of long term chronic pain. I have 3 herniated disc's in my lower back and have had the back half removed from C5 & C6 in my neck to relieve pressure on my spinal cord. I've been using Morphine for over 10 years for my pain relief and was doing fine. Until the dam Government stuck their nose into my doctors business and claimed he was over prescribing narcotics and pulled his license. He was the top Neurosurgeon in Colorado and one of the top 10 in the country. Now I'm having to deal with a young doctor still in his 20's and the first thing he did was cut me back from over 400 mg a day to under a 100 mg. Which doesn't do anything for my constant lower back pain and constant neck pain.
Any who, if you are getting enough to manage your pain, don't worry about getting addicted to it. It only takes a little self control to maintain the dosage the doctors gives you. And enjoy it while you can because there is a movement of busy bodies trying to get ALL Opioid pain medications banded in America just because a few people abuse them. All that is going to do is make people like us suffer from excessive pain when we shouldn't have to.
Good luck to you

Verwon-
I'm intrigued - I have always wondered if pain meds could cause rebound or other pain. I take 60mg of Avinza 2x daily, so 120mg. I've never heard anyone say narcotics caused inflamation, but from working at a health/vitamin store for years I have read about inflamation from constipation, and most narcotic analgesics cause constipation to one degree or another. There are many things NOT posted in the PDR or on med writeups, or side effects from long term use never studied - termed "anecdotal" I think we need to listen to each other as often as we do to our docs.
In fact, one of the reasons I use and support the use of narcotic meds is that the primary side effect listed is "addiction/dependance" - and most others (respiratory suppression, etc) are dose related. Unlike the handfuls of tylenol I used to take, or the tons of aspirin Narcotics don't cause kidney or liver damage, or stomach ulcers or bleeding. When people give me "That Look" when they find out I take morphine and say that tylenol works for them I tell them that I can live with consitpation and dependance, but I can't live without my liver. "First Do No Harm..." and all that.

Hermit - don't know if you are still posting but I'm certainly worried about your prediction that govt is trying to or moving towards getting rid of ALL narcotics. I am not generally a conspiracy theory type but I know what I can do WITH pain meds that I cannot do Without them - and the misery is what I dread. It sucks that so many people with high pain tolerance (like having a root canal with no lidocaine) try to look down on people who need help to control pain. It seems to cycle in this country, (wasn't it Clinton who introduce or made the Pain Chart mandatory in ER's?) Freedom from Pain is a right that should not be taken away from Americans.
