Mirtazapine For Depression
UpdatedI was put on Mirtazapine 15mg for 4 dys , then up to 30mg , 9wks ago.
I was extremely anxious & depressed & also was only sleeping 2hrs a night.
I slept soundly after 45mins of taking one , and the anxiety was far less.
I was told they are a tablet that takes longer than others to get into the system proberly 8wksfor depression so to persivere with them..
I am not at all happy with the weight gain issue attacted to them , but was told if you eat healthy 3 times a day & resist the urges you may get , and eat fruit , you will not put on weight , as of yet I am O.k. but I do feel bloated ,and my tummy looks it..
So 9wks now down the line I do not like feeling tired during the day all the time ,and when I do got to bed it can take me hours to fall asleep, then sleeping anything for 8 to10 hrs each day , and am unable to rouse myself to gget up , meaning Im spending 12hrs actually in bed each day, then just sitting watching TV , and feeling numb , useless , not interested in life in general , or even my family , I just feel dead.
I see my Dr in a week or so , and am going to ask to come off them .
The thing is when I go for my check up , I feel unable to talk about how I feel ,or put my point across , even to the point of writing everything down ,Im still in a muddle and do not know if Im capable of making a judgement on anything..
Ive even been asked by my Dr previously , what do you want to try ?
What do I know , I read about things but am still confused.
I am along term depressive of 41 yrs so have been on a lot of different tablets , hospitalised twice for 3mths at a time , had ECT, and been a out patient for years, and still every so often I go downhill so then have to change medication.
Im 61 yrs now & feel I am coming to he end of my life and am just sitting here waiting to die , part of my wants to , another thinks there might still be hope.
It seems that a antidepressant is needed , also something to ease the anxiety , as well as the depression.
If the conbined one is not right for me , does anyone have any other suggestions..
I was on SSRIs before these Citalapram, Fluoxetine , Sertraline which all worked well until I was not was not sleeping, which the over the months lack of sleep made me really low , to the ponit of a DR being called to see me , & Mirtazapine followed..
My only side affects up to now 9wks on are , unable to get to sleep quickly & sound sleep.
Fatigue the rest of the day.
Bloated feeling.
Not feeling like me ..odd
I feel better the end of the day.when its time to go to bed...then I have to take them again
Jumpty legs .
Any suggestions anyone as Im getting very confused ??

Did you and your doctor ever consider having you stay on something that works for you, but may also help you sleep?
For example, Trazodone is often used to help those with depression that also have trouble sleeping, another option is Risperdal, but of course, only you, and your doctor can decide what is safe for you to try. There are possible risks, and benefits associated with all medications. The FDA lists the typical side effects of these medications as possibly including sedation, drowsiness, dizziness, headache, and mood changes.
For speaking to your doctor, when you are feeling more clear headed, write something down just like you would say it to them, instead of just taking notes, then you can read it to them like a speech, or even just hand them the sheet to read, and tell then you can't articulate it well, all the time.
You're still young, you have many years left to enjoy life, you just need to find the right medications to help you. Have you tried seeing a specialist?
