Midrin Where Can I Get It (Page 6)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I have been taking Midrin for the past 10 years for migraines because I don't get any side effects from it and it works really well. Now all of a sudden the pharmacies in my area (3 of them) are saying that they can't get any or it is on backorders for the past 3 months. Do they still make it? I tried a different medication and it makes me really dissy so I really need to know how to get the Midrin. How can I get a presecription filled and where even in the mail would be ok.

Roy, Midrin is available now in generic form only at many pharmacies. My small-town family pharmacy has it and I just got my first bottle of it since it was shortaged! The original maker is no longer making brand. But it is generic, and they are the dark red capsules! JUST FYI :)

It appears that there is more than one compounding pharmacy out there who should be able to put the correct ingredients of Midrin together.

Northbay Family Compounding Pharmacy
Fairfield, California
(707) 421-1117

Lee Davis Compounding Pharmacy
Mechanicsville, Virginia
(804) 730-9200

I guess you can give them both a call to compare their prices and services. They both require a valid RX in order to synthesize the compound, and they should ship to any address in the USA. Hope this helps everyone!

JUST A NOTE --- Midrin (the brand name) was discontinued by some pharmaceutical companies, but it was on shortage. So now it is being made strictly as a generic. So call your pharmacies in your area to see who has it! We no longer have to suffer!

I just got my first bottle of generic Midrin at my local small-town pharmacy! Now no more suffering!

I just got my precious generic Midrin at my local pharmacy. Was expensive, about $35 for 30 caps. But worth it! I take an Excedrine Migraine tab with one an it works fine. :) That is, I take it at first bit of aura I get....

Please post!!! One company that now makes the generic Midrin is MACOVEN PHARMACEUTICALS. If your pharmacist doesn't know he/she can now look it up through this company!
Luck to you all.

RE: the return of generic Midrin, where are you located? I am in dire need of Midrin and am eager to find it for myself. Using OTC Excedrin Migraine Tablets and they don't totally do the the trick. Having back-to-back headaches since the loss of Midrin....

Just found out that compounded medications are NOT covered by Medicare or most insurance companies. Asked my local pharmacy who does compounding and that is what I was told... Also, pharmacist told me that compounded drugs, made specifically for the patient, are more expensive than most generic drugs. Just FYI....

Will Medicare Part D pay for compounded meds?? I need Midrin .. had been on it for umpteen years and great success for chronic migraines. So really miss it. Now I use ice packs to neck, and take two Excedrin Migraine tabs, and pray..... No lights (wear mask) and no sound, even cover my head to filter it all out!

i found on another site in response to midrin being discontinued that a compunding company in delaware was still making midrin at only $1 a pill - its called safeway compounding company (you can google it) and they are OUTSTANDING!! you just need a prescription from your doctor for as many ppills as you would like and within a week they send it out to you by ups with a shipping cost of $10 - but these prices are amazing compared to what i was paying at the pharmacy hen i could get them locally - i HIGHLY recommend this company and suggest that you spread the word to any and all migraine sufferers everywhere ! their customer service is superb as well - good luck!

Hi, I too took Midrin for about 20 years. They have come out with a new medication called PRODRIN, it replaces the sedative with caffienne. It is available by perscription and it works just as well. I had to tell my nuerologist about it. I found out from my pharmacist. I am grateful they didn't just throw out the whole idea. PASS THE WORD. There is a replacement!

Can you recommend a doctor who will write such a prescription--for Midrin, or for its 3 components, or for the 3 component (with Chloralhydrate as a substitute for Dichloralpherazone)? Anyone in Minnesota? I have suffered from migraines for nearly 40 years and I have tried everything. Midrin is the only med that works for me. My family doctor tells me that he can no longer legally write a prescription for Midrin, so he refuses to even talk about options. I have the sense that he thinks I am trying to talk him into doing something illegal, which seems to make him angry. Thanks.

I am posting a follow-up because I have been taking chelated magnesium as a supplement once a day and have not had any aura or migraines for over a month now. I had recently read that this helps with menstrual migraines, which I suffered from on a regular basis for several years. I take Solgar brand which is available at Whole Foods. While I'm not completely sure this is the exact reason I have been migraine free, it's worth sharing if it will help someone. I do have a "stockpile" of Epidrin that I have thankfully not had to dip into. I have experienced tightness between the shoulders, and the "beginnings" of a headache a few times, but it quickly subsided. Do an internet search on magnesium for migraine and you will find more information. Worth a try since Midrin and generics are not available.

This is great news. I suffer from debilitating menstrual migraines with pre-ceeding aura, and Midrin is the only thing that has worked for me. It is a lifesaver and allows me to go about my day normally instead of ending up in the emergency room. I will speak to my doctor about having it compounded. It would be nice to not have to ration what's left of my Midrin once knowing it could be compounded and available to me in the future. Such a shame they stopped making it. It's an inexpensive drug and lets people live productively without wasting so much money and resources in emergency rooms.

Yes! When i had the doctor do the prescription for the individual medication that make Midrin the compounding pharmacy did make up for me! My doc even spoke to the pharmacist. Acetaminophen, Isomethaptene and chloralhydrate are the ingrediants. I have it in my hand now! You can get "Midrin"!
