Midrin Where Can I Get It (Page 5) (Top voted first)

I have been taking Midrin for the past 10 years for migraines because I don't get any side effects from it and it works really well. Now all of a sudden the pharmacies in my area (3 of them) are saying that they can't get any or it is on backorders for the past 3 months. Do they still make it? I tried a different medication and it makes me really dissy so I really need to know how to get the Midrin. How can I get a presecription filled and where even in the mail would be ok.

My neurologist just Rx'd Midrin for me today (7/9/13) and my pharmacy (CVS) called to tell me that they have to order it but it will be ready for me tomorrow. I will be getting the generic formula - but am excited that this is available again as both my daughter and I use it.

Apothecary Pharmacies (compounding) makes the Midrin for me. They were using a substitute for the Dichloralphenazone USP, but are now able to also get that drug. However the substitute is a "faster acting" agent, so I have not requested that the Dichloralphenazone USP be used due to the extra cost.

I did get the generic Midrin, and have since had refills too. CVS is where I got it. I don't think it was compounded because they ordered it from their supply warehouse and it came the next day before 2:00pm. I had never used it before and am now in love with it!! LOL

I live in Washington, DC and Since midrin was taken off market I have been in misery. Everything else has too many side effects. I've been hearing talk of an equivalent Med. Is it available now in DC, MD OR VA?

I recently had my Midrin script written as a "Compound" drug. I was able to get it filled at a Compounding pharmacy and it still works. The difference between Midrin and a compounded midrin is they cannot give it a shelf live of more that 30 days, but (it does last quite long and it works the same.

my daughter just got her new rx for Midrin and it went from $5 to appx. $250! Does any one know where she can get this cheaper or help with the prescription price? This is the only thing that has worked for her! coupons, drug programs? She has insurance, but apparently not enough. Please help. Thanks

I started using Midrin in 1983 when i was first diagnosed with migraine headaches. When the triptan family of drugs was released, my doctor prescribed Imitrex (about 1998), but I had a severe reaction to the drug. I was told by my neurologist to avoid all triptans and got a new Midrin rx after specifically requesting it. It is the only medication the fully relieves my migraine symptoms, specifically my sensitivity to light and sound. Over the past four years, I've had monthly episodes of migraine with no relief from either pain or prophylactic meds. Dealing with military docs and not getting to a neurologist, I couldn't get Midrin or any information about it I've been taking muscle relaxers in order to sleep and suffering through headaches that last for 72 hours. Finally, during my last migraine bout, I looked up Midrin online, and I'm thrilled to know why I couldn't find it in the past and to know that it is once again available. I found this post while sitting in my doctor's waiting room. I wanted to be "armed" to make my Midrin request! I look forward to leaving with a new rx and finally relief from the regular headaches that plague me!

Gateway pharmacy in kernersville nc. Just picked a bottle up of 50. $5.00 withBCBS Iit is the generic, but it is the same ingredients.

Glad that Midrin is available again. It's availability comes and goes depending on production I'm thinking because there are periods of "sorry, it's on back order". They only problem I have is paying for it. The price per pill is anywhere between $3.50-$5.00!! My insurance does not cover this medication anymore. Yesterday I tried using a discount card where it said I could get 60 pills for $51 at walmart. I was so totally let down when they said they could not accept the card "for this type of medication" because Walmart would be losing too much money giving me a discount. Funny thing she said, "Everybody wants to make money on what they sell right?" I am thinking in my head how stupid that sounds. If I was a person, one person, sure I'd like to make a profit from something I sold. But Walmart is a corporation worth billions of dollars. I ended up only purchasing 10 pills, with the thought of the most stupid conversation I have ever had with a pharmacist on my mind. So has anyone out there had any luck with discount cards?

What most of these compounding pharmacies aren't telling you is that they are charging usually $125 for just 90 pills. And it isn't covered by insurance in most cases, plus I have found that where I used to take just 2 pills before, with the compounding pharmacies, I have had to take 3 or 4! The freshness of the ingredients is a major problem now.

Hi, and thanks a million for the info re: Macoven Pharmaceuticals manufacturing Midrin! As a chronic/acute migraine suffering individual, I've been waiting for YEARS for Midrin to become available again. Even after repeated queries made to AN exceptional, diligent, Pharmacist and her searching her suppliers for any form of the drug, it was my searching the web and finding the manufacturer. I then passed the info on to my pharmacist and lo and behold, she found she was able to order it. She did so straight away for myself and another patient as well. Finally getting written for it again was like putting teeth however. I had taken it for many years, enjoying real, actual migraine relief. IT goes to work quickly truly aiding in relief. Even IT couldn't completely rid me OF my worst migraines BUT it sure would make a dent. I'VE tried everything else out there, for the longest time I was taking Fiorcet which stopped working a long time ago and the caffeine content was brutal since I've got major anxiety disorder, and mitral valve prolapse. I tried triptans in spite of the fact that they are totally contraindicated in my case once again due to my mitral valve prolapse and had violent reactions to them, and they didn't work as well anyhow. I tried the maximum dose of Topamax- which is supposed to be a profolactic, helps a BIT. TRIED Fiorcet w/codeine, Tramadol, Vicodin, etc. I still get the best results from Midrin, END of story!!! I was finally written for it today by a Pain Management Specialist- who had no idea what IT even WAS! I had to battle, OMG! He had to look it up before he would write me for it. This shouldn't have been a big deal, since I was requesting it, rather than Fiorcet. And he only wrote me for #30 which was a bummer, it should've been #90 instead, but I'll take what I can get for now! I'm so glad I'll have it by Monday. People who don't have migraines don't seem to grasp how brutal they are to have to live with, and it's simply shocking HOW long it's taken to find Midrin again, AT long last! Thank goodness, utilize the info on this site and tell your pharmacist who/where to order Midrin from. BE proactive, it's worth it and believe me I know!

The Walmart pharmacy in my town charges me 95.00 for 10 pills. I feel like I'm a junkie paying a drug dealer for "my fix". Damn shame! I was planning on writing the manufacturer to see if I could get some sort of relief on this cost cause it is unaffordable but it's the only thing that works.

Hi,
Midrin has been pulled from the market due to FDA regulations. this is the second time this has happened in the past 13 years. Midrin has no generic and the FDA doesn't like that. This is the absolute BEST medication that I have taken for my migraines and I have tried them all from nasal sprays to preventative meds like Topamax ( and I still get them while on the preventative) but way less often. If you experience more than 15 a Month talk to your Neurologist about a preventative medication because there is no telling when Midrin is coming back.
