Metronidazole Lasting Side Effects (Page 21)

I have been taking this medication for 7 days and off of it since a week and still have severe side effects, abdominal cramps, severe headaches, dizziness, unsteadiness... How long is it expected to last? It was prescribed with Ciprofloxacin to me and I take Entrophen on a regular basis...
I took it for 5 days and life took on a new meaning
A deadly, dastardly, evil meaning of despair of life that would make you think you would be better off dead. I don't suggest this medication.especially if you're depressed
Hazel, get another drug if possible. My initial reaction started with difficulty breathing and I still have that today (not as bad, but it's been two years now). Difficulty swallowing is also a sign of having a serious reaction to this (feels like there's a lump in your throat, hard time swallowing, especially liquids). It's a neurotoxic reaction and it can cause damage, so I highly recommend you stop now and request another drug.
For about 3 days try eating a high protein diet and no sugars and carbs to see if that helps with the brain fog.
Hi...I took my last dose about 4 months ago and have been feeling like the effects are finally subsiding. I seem to have good days and bad days, but I made it through an entire week while I had company and did pretty well. The last 3 days have been a bit worse, but not horrible, with the anxiety and brain fog.
Hi there,
How long did you experience these side effects for? If you can remember.
I've been taking flagyl for 2 days now.. 2 times a day (500 mg) for my infection... Now i'm having shortness of breath and difficulty swallowing... The doctor said i should take this for 1 week... Can i stop taking the pill?
Please share world renowned nutritionists name. I am having reaction to augmenten and I have mold sensitivity. Brain fog ratcheting up. Should have stood my ground when being prescribed this antibiotic ~ Augmentin. Thanks for your post. Clarity to me shedding light on what my system was most likely dealing with. Even though clarity in thinking is being ambushed presently.
Thank you BJH and Erin for giving somebody like me hope, I'm glad to know most people recover completely from this drug. I hope my recovery won't be interrupted or slowed down just because I'm not taking any supplements to help myself.
I decided to eat only cooked greens and yogurts, hope this helps.
Erin, Thank you.. I could have just gone away but I thought maybe my experience might help others. We are all in this together in my opinion..
No, please. If you're recovered completely, then hearing your story offers great encouragement for those still going through this process.
Most people who recover completely go on with other things, however, if they are still on here trying to help we don't want to discourage them, do we?
Lyka, are there no counselors or someone who specializes in mental health? I'm not sure what options you have there, but certainly someone specializes in mental well-being on some level. I'm sorry you don't have the options we do. Most of us had to fight with our doctors to get any sort of help...and some of them did eventually do little things, but some of them got angry. What you're dealing with in regard to your doctors is very common with this.
BJH, yes, I absolutely agree with you. People who have recovered completely aren't on these forums (or if they are, they don't stay long). Most people recover completely from metronidazole toxicity, or at least greatly improve. It's hard to predict who will have what outcome, but the odds are in our favor.
Since you have the internet see what you can find online about tai chi and yoga and what else you can find out about a possible help to you in your situation. I know you are really having a hard time, no doubt in my mind at all.... those of us who got help earlier are lucky to have a health care system, though flawed, at least looks for solutions. Most doctors just look for a pill to make you go away and won't admit that the pills they Rxed caused the problem. Don't give up!
BJH I am located in the Solomons. I never heard of Tai Chi and I don't know anything about yoga. You are lucky because you get that but I don't.
I feel like I am getting worst everyday, your doctors are nice but mine there is nothing more to help me. I often hear about psychiatrists but there is nothing like that here too.
I don't take supplements because I tried them before and they only made things worst, so I have no choice but to wait it out and see what happens.
Erin and all....I seem to be feeling a little better, with a few "down" days, but better than I was. This forum has helped me a lot to feel like I'm not the only one going through this. I've also been taking a ton of supplements and trying to stay active, which has improved my outlook. I have company for a week so I'm very thankful to have a little better handle on the overwhelming anxiety. I do think the aloe vera juice is helping and the herbs my chiropractor gave me are helping too. My face hasn't been constantly numb and the headache has subsided. It's almost 4 months since my last pill. Thank you guys for being here and being so supportive.
Erin, do you think that if we are ALL better that we shouldn't be here helping anyone else?
Most people do make a full recovery--there's no reason for them to be on here if they are all better. Just something to keep in mind.
I'm doing very well. Yes, I do have a few lingering problems but they are minor compared to before.
The side effects of this med are the b****, not life itself. Where do you live? Have you tried tai chi or yoga, private sessions? How does your neck feel when you move your head, do you feel dizzy? I do believe that if it were not for my eye doctor my GP would not have believed there was a problem.....and she then had the good sense to send me for tests and to a neurologist which was the beginning of my getting better..the physical therapy helped with balance issues and the neuropathy and taking some kind of action was soooo less depressing than doing nothing...
Research the vagus nerve and its connection to the brain, etc...
Hi again, how is everyone doing so far?? Is there anybody besides BJH who has had made a full recovery? I'm still struggling but what can I say? I've tried everything. Life is such a b****.
