Metoprolol Withdrawal (Page 95) (Top voted first)

Updated

i've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.

i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.

is this withdrawal? how long will it last?

i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.

Met killed my stomach as well and my esphogus. I took zantac 2x a day and had to go on a very bland diet. I lived on toast, applesauce, rice , cereal and bananas. I was worried I’d never be able to eat normally again. I’ve been off of it a month and am just starting to feel normal. I also am take coq10. Hope you feel better

Hi all. Alex here. I'm taking less than 6 mg currently now. Watch your blood pressure when you wean off this. You really can't feel anything from that but your blood pressure will be going up and down for a while. That's until your body gets back to normal. I also get some slight chest pressure during the night, not a lot tho. My heart rate is also lower now when in bed. Around 55 while resting but not asleep.

Thank you so much for your answer, it really means a lot to me.

Did you try any detox methods while going through withdrawal? I'm considering taking activated charcoal and a detox bath this evening, but I am a bit unsure about how it will affect my symptoms...

Re: Piano (# 1902) Expand Referenced Message

I take L-theanine for anxiety, plus some magnesium. But take it one day at a time, check your blood pressure and heart rate while coming off of it. I'm almost out of it but not there yet. I say maybe a week or two more to see where my body is at. Also lemon balm during the night helps for sleeping.

I hope I'm not speaking too soon, but it seems like the withdrawal symptoms are gone. It took almost two weeks. I really hope I'm done with the withdrawals. Hugs for everyone struggling with metoprolol withdrawal.

I recently moved, and had to switch cardiologists. I have been taking 100mg flecainide twice daily along with 25 mg metoprolol succ. divided in half by two doses. 12.5mg. My new doc, wants me to stop the metoprolol by weaning off of it. Taking only half a day for a few days and then stopping entirely. Today was the first day, I tried not taking it in the morning. By 1pm I started feeling light headed, and sort of tingly. Checked my BP was 154 over 92. So I took half a pill. Still feeling strange. Not sure if it's the met. or just anxiety because I have read so much about stopping it. I do know I don't feel right. Called the Docs office, but they simply told me, to go to emergency if anything bad happens. Yeah, what does that mean? The nearest hospital does not accept my insurance. So I will only go, if it's a dire emergency. Unfortunately I don't know what I could consider an emergency. My heart rate has stayed low, just my BP has gone up.

I took 25mg Metoprolol Tartate to calm me down before an interview, I only took it once during the day at 10:45 in the morning, I was fine for the day and then at 00:44 midnight I had palpitations and a SEVERE anxiety attack. The anxiety attack lasted for 3 hours. It’s been nearly 7 days since I took that horrible pill. And I’m still getting anxiety episodes, not as severe as before. I also have a burning sensation at the back of my head and neck and this sensation is CONSTANT 24/7. Can a single pill taken once cause this much mayhem?

Re: Peggy (# 1912) Expand Referenced Message

The doctor said I should only tape off with a half dose, for two days. Today was the second day. Except for some slightly high BP and a little lightheadedness, I have managed so far. Tomorrow is the real test. I'm supposed to stop it entirely. I made it the past 24 hours without taking any, so hopefully tomorrow I will be ok. Just took the last half dose. Strangely my heart rate is still only in the fifties.

Mine was low for a month after I stopped. It remains in your system longer than they say. Hope you continue to do well.

I'm feeling slightly better now, but now I'm experiencing depersonalisation symptoms. The burning sensation in the back of my head has moved towards the top of my head, and is less intense now.
