Metoprolol Withdrawal (Page 8) (Top voted first)

Updated

i've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.

i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.

is this withdrawal? how long will it last?

i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.

Please tell your daughter as far as I'm concerned staying on this stuff has worse problems in the long run than withdrawals from it. Just ride the storm out and know it will end. I really don't feel it's as bad withdrawing from it as it was for me to stay on it but that's just me we are all different. If she doesn't like the way it makes her feel now then she won't like it later. Tell her to hang strong and know this to shall pass.

Thanks Anita I'm for sure gonna use your suggestions....I didn't know that vitamin c helped the liver but I did know that exercise is good also the water! It is so true that our bodies are working on finding a new normal and to trust the process. I had a total melt down today but I just lost my beautiful 9 and a half year old boxer/Rotty to an accidental drowning falling through the ice and the mourning is hard....very angry the last few days and my expectations are so high for others that they cannot jump through the hoops that I setup. Just having a hard time dealing right now! Felt so strong for awhile and now a few steps back. I will continue on cause that's all I know to do. Won't take anything else to ease my anxiety cause I don't want to get hooked. The thought of a Valium right now sounds fantastic Lolololo but no not gonna do it because this is hard enough as it is. I'm to scared of the chances of addiction. I just want to say thanks you for posting 6 months is fantastic!

Glad to hear Justme that you had a better day! JR you are wise to think twice before taking another medicine that is going to mess with your system ANY antidepressant is going to impact your system and possibly bring a new set of side effects. I had a Pcp give me lexapro and I took one pill and couldn't think for a week. That was me tho, I can't tolerate medicine very well apparently. I can promise you that with time, the anxiety will go away. It has taken me 6 months but I no longer have any anxiety at all. Be patient guys! This will pass!

Weird. Thanks guys. Great to see you pop in Toonces!
Really tired of this, hard not to get very discouraged. Back to doc for check in next Tues. All this makes one think one is losing their mind. So NOT "me". Hard to believe that one short stint on one medication can have such LASTING and Wretched effects. Patience, tons of water, protein and yes.... endless patience..... also not "me" :/

Im happy to see how everyone is doing. Im really losing patience with not being able to get up and really clean my house or just go on a long walk without my heart rate and blood pressure going up. Really ticking me off. I feel ok when im laying or sitting. Then I get up and do dishes or try to fold laundry and boom...headache, dizziness and heart gets wonky. Frustrating!!!

I cancelled my 4th of July party. Had to cancel a visit with an old friend I hadn't seen in 20 years. Could only do the minimum as far as working. Every day was a struggle and I never knew when my BP would spike while on the M. Nobody understood why I couldn't function. The struggle was real. Everywhere I went I took a BP cuff and bottle of lisinopril just in case. It took 6 months to get to the point where I can actually make plans. Don't push yourself and just do what you can. Try and relax. Oh and hot weather seemed to make my heart rate go up too. Stay calm and rest. It takes longer than it should... But you can do it!

Hang in there everybody because I'm at the end of three months and I feel soooo much better!! It's amazing what even just a week can make. Even if you don't feel much better in three months hang in there because it will get better. Any kind of movement even if it's just walking around the house is gonna make you feel better in the long run. I started doing green smoothies and still exercising even if it's just a short walk. It all helps. You guys are all gonna feel better if you just hang in there and this will be just a distant memory someday. I'm praying for all of you! Good for you Jr for doing some diet and exercise! Hang in there! I go to my doc on Monday and will let you guys know how it went.

That's for sure Lauren! We are not crazy and the struggle is real! Just like our fingerprints are all different so is this gonna be. We may identify with a few here and there but just because somebody else doesn't have the same thing as you does not make it any less real. It will get better. I was on this krap for eight years blah!!!! Insanity at its best let me tell ya! I getting much better and thanks for all your postings because it helps so much!

I think your doing great with your positivity Jr. I really see a difference in you from last month even if you don't see it. Everybody seems to sound better bit by bit. Baby steps if need be. One forward two back if we have to. Anybody that has been on this M and even made it through being on it is one tuff cookie in my book. We've got this if we stay positive!

Thank you Justme it feels great to hear that from someone who has gone thru the same road that we are all on. All i keep thinking is one day at a time . Good luck on your doctors appointment.

I went into afib a month ago. Went to the hospital and 12 hours later with an IV drip I was back into sinus rythm. Doctor put me on Metoprolol 25/ mg for, rate control and high blook pressure. Once a day. The thing is I knew there was something causing my problems. I did have an acid reflux problem. So after six days of taking metoprolol I stopped. Got on Zantac for 2 weeks. During the first few days my heart would speed up for no good reason at all. Maybe once or twice a day. These episodes would last for only a minute or so. I have now not taken Zantac for a week and all problems are gone.

Just trying to help . I know my symptoms won't apply to everyone, but if even one persons problems are caused by acid reflux and the doctors don't care enough to figure it out, we'll maybe I can save one persons life!

Hi Sandra...just like everyone else...no motivation, anxiety which causes me to shake both internally and externally, trouble sleeping due to pounding heart. I find for me if I push myself hard one day I end up paying for it over the next 3-5 days...I will say that I pushed myself pretty hard this past Saturday and finally this afternoon I feel somewhat decent which is a small improvement in the length of bad days...I also find the mornings the hardest and it seems to get better in the evening.

I agree. It's like after the M I'm allergic to everything. I'm lucky the lisinopril works for me, but I started that years ago before the M disaster. I'm trying to deal with high cholesterol. Allergic reaction to Lipitor. Allergic reaction to red yeast rice. Allergic reaction to ground flax seeds. Come on now... I didn't used do be allergic to everything! I've always had a sensitivity to medicines but not to this extent. My eyes feel like they're swelling out of my head and my sinuses feel inflamed. And achy muscles in my arms. I've already changed my diet and exercise and now I'm just eating oatmeal every day. At least I'm not allergic to oatmeal
Lol. All of these allergic symptoms were accompanied by weirdo head again and chest pains so there you go... M like symptoms 8 months later. Goddam Metoprolol really did screw up my system. So sad.

CJJ8S, JR, and Sandra how long were you on this nightmare drug and dose is my question? I was put on it in November 15, took 50mg metoprolol succinate er once a day for 3 months and had all kinds of problems. Then switched Docs only to find my problems were an allergic reaction to meds? New Doc wanted me to take lisinopril, nope 1 day and tongue swelled, so she said try amlodipine, not good either, feet felt like lead bricks. I ended up in ER with anxiety attack (never had this before) and I said NO to BP meds. What happened is I tried to flush the drug out of my body with TONS of water and my sodium level bottomed out. So now that I am off all meds I pray to be done with this soon. It is 5 weeks and I am still not me back to me!
