Metoprolol Withdrawal (Page 86)

i've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.
i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.
is this withdrawal? how long will it last?
i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.
Wow Lauren....vibrating internally was a great description omg I'm still coming to terms with what this stuff has done to me. Been off of it since he end of Nov. still at a loss for words kind of dumbfounded on all this info?? It has been a heck of a ride for 8 years now until I found the truth for my issues. Getting better all the time! Not sure how long this will last but my heart is much happier going back to its old self. I keep telling my heart I'm soooo sorry.????
Wow the weaning process took months? I have been off of it for almost 2 months and I'm just still n shock looking back that this is what was causing soooo many problems in my life? I'm just thankful to know these things now because it even messed with my head through the anxiety it was causing wow. Thank you for your post and I so need to tell my story once I can put the pieces together so as to help anybody else that has had these symptoms. Wow!
Have your doctor take you off this stuff it is what caused my anxiety and a host of other problems! I wasn't going to reply on these posts but when I see how many people are suffering needlessly I decided I need to help and share because I have taken his drug for 8 years and suffered way too much. I have been off of it since the end f Nov and I feel and continue to feel sooooo much better. Lot more to say about this drug if you have questions. So sorry for your suffering and I hope my reply finds you off of this drug. Talking about M
Nervously awaiting the impending Blizzard. Not many around here GET the implications of that word. So hoping we don't lose power, that would make things especially worse. Still a daily crap shoot here. Waiting for clearer days ahead. Still feel like my body is often vibrating.
Thanks Jimbo . Its seems like everyday is a struggle but i notice i feel great after long walks . I might have to talk to my doc about my anxiety that i am going through.
JR, I ended up getting a prescription for Xanax for my anxiety, but I was very careful to take it ONLY at times when my anxiety was nearly unbearable. The problem with this drug or others like them is that they're very addictive, and you certainly don't want to open up that rabbit hole on top of Metoprolol withdrawal. A supplement that can be helpful is L-Theanine. It's very weak in comparison to Xanax, but I found that it does help to take the edge off a bit.
Sandra, I think most of us have had high heart rates while getting off the "M." We're all different, but my heart rate stabilized after about six weeks of being off the drug. I initially thought it had ended after four weeks, but I had a relapse for a few days after the fifth week for whatever reason. Unfortunately, it seems to be part of the process.
I'm also one of those that feared waking up every day, for I never knew if I'd end up in the ER or if I could manage to get through the day without major issues. You know, it sounds as though all three of you (Sandra, Lauren & JR) are almost there. Of course, it takes some of us longer than others, but the good days have got to start happening soon for all of you! Just keep hanging in there! You're doing great!
Did any one take anxiety meds while going thru withdrawals and did it help? I still don't feel my self and anxiety is killing me. If so can you email me some tips to get thru it? {edited for privacy}
Lauren I was just telling my husband the same thing. I hate going to bed because I fear what I will feel like the next day!
How long did your heart rate stay kinda high after withdrawaling. Im only 3 weeks off. I went to clean my daughters bathroom and heart rate went to almost 160. I dont have a heart problem and it only gets high with exertion. Anyone else with this problem?
Didn't win the Powerball but on the bright side, I have had a reasonably ok day. Fingers crossed that this will continue for a stretch. I hate getting up every morning to a crap shoot. Trying to be patient.
JINXD8 sounds like a serious problem with your symptoms from Met. My advice is to see a doctor or even go to the ER. It's a bad choice for someone wirh asthma history. Not sure if you have any history of that. There are other medicines that can be used for svt. Good luck and keep us updated.
Happy New Year to the others who've been kind enough to share their problems on this forum. I'm still hoping to get my met changed to another drug for my palpitations. I need to stop my hair loss which I believe is due to long term used of Met.
Just had a hysterectomy on Friday and my heart went into SVT, 211 in recovery resulting in a cardioversion.. They put me on Metoprolol 50mg to go home. I have an appointment today with cardiologist and can't wait to get off this medication, rash, tightness in throat and cough, itchiness, and dizziness. Never took any meds prior for my palpitations. Had maybe 4 to 5 per year on average.
Thank you Jimbo for finally saying what we all have been thinking re Dr postings!! Folks stick with it, I am about 5 weeks off and still having a few good days, followed by several off days. Slowly improving, the off days aren't as 'off' as before. Any newbies I strongly recommend that you read thru lots of previous posts, very helpful kind folks here! I was laying in bed this am early listening to my pulse bang and thinking, I'm ok, it's just my body readjusting. It eventually went away. Anyone else ever feel like they are literally Vibrating internally?
I am on 3 weeks so maybe i am still struggling thru it . I guess this week i feel i more per it being allergy season were i live
JR-Absolutely! I have had horrible headachesduring this wwithdrawal. I am only 2 weeks off but headaches still there.
Did any of yall during withdrawals have lots of headaches ? I am curreny having them i feel tension in the back of neck and headache. I also think it could be related to withdrawal and allergies . Please let me know if yall did . Thanks
My experience was very much like Joyce (177, 179, 183, 201, 270). Tapering after relatively low levels didn't work for me either -- pounding palpations, shortness of breath, short term memory loss, and anxiety simply increased! So the only option was to go cold turkey off 12.5 Metropolol twice daily. Irregular heartbeat started 22 hours after stopping accompanied by light-headedness, and anxiety. I went for very long moderately paced walks and did slow deep breathing exercises at bed time. I'm on Day 4 and have just established a steady heart rate of 72 bpm after 90 hours off the stuff. At this point I am cautiously optimistic.
It's worth the struggle! My doctor was going bezerk adding more and more medicines to deal with the metoprolol side effects. It was absurd. Stick with the weaning process and then once your body is clear of the poison and has begun to moderate itself again, then you can see if you need anything for BP! I went from being health on one medicine, to 5 when the metoprolol was added (and feeling terrible plus being in and out of the er with side effects). Now I take 10 mg lisinopril and feel like a normal person again. It took me a month to wean off and another 4 months for the side effects to diminish. Stick with it!
Thanks jimbo !!! I have been struggling this week but i feel i can't go back . I also went cold turkey . I have some bad hours during the day and then ill do good. The only thing is that it makes it difficult to work out ..my goal.is to get off all meds . I currently take lisinprol/htz in the mornings and amnoldipine at night ..i just want off and be healty again!!!
Well said Jimbo!! Thank you and thank you for always weighing in to help!
