i've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.
i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.
is this withdrawal? how long will it last?
i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.
Thank you Lauren & Anita P for the posts. It gives me relief to know it's the med's and not me. It's also very encouraging to know it will end at some point. Good luck Lauren with the Tapazole I hope it works for you! I am going to keep fighting the fight. Praying for a good day for all.
I cancelled my 4th of July party. Had to cancel a visit with an old friend I hadn't seen in 20 years. Could only do the minimum as far as working. Every day was a struggle and I never knew when my BP would spike while on the M. Nobody understood why I couldn't function. The struggle was real. Everywhere I went I took a BP cuff and bottle of lisinopril just in case. It took 6 months to get to the point where I can actually make plans. Don't push yourself and just do what you can. Try and relax. Oh and hot weather seemed to make my heart rate go up too. Stay calm and rest. It takes longer than it should... But you can do it!
Cjj88, totally about the socializing. I basically cancelled xmas and even now I just don't want to be bothered. It's too much, I cannot tolerate any of it. I don't want to talk in phone either. I assume eventually this will ease up as I feel better.
I hAve lone afib. Only going into afib three times in 4 years. Each time IV drip in hospital and 12 hours later back into sinus rythm and went home. This last time was last Tuesday February 8th. I have been prescribed metoprolol 25 MG ER once a day. So I've been taking it now for 7 days and I want to stop.
Will I experience with drawl side effects after taking this for 7 days if I stop now?
Ok, went to doc. She says the thyroid controls all these spurts and periods of anxiety, palpitations, wonky head, buzzy feeling, hyper reactions to nsaids etc etc that we all are having. The metoprolol controls the thyroid reactions, the thyroid forgets how to behave and once the metoprolol is reduced or eliminated, you are left with a thyroid that is unable to reset itself, and basically spurts TSH randomly and creates a hyperthyroid status, often off and on, so it usually won't come up in blood work cause blood work takes a snapshot of the Moment it's drawn and not on an ongoing basis. Look up symptoms of hyperthyroid, they will sound very familiar. She said they usually prescribe tapazole for 6 weeks to allow the thyroid to relax and reset itself, or you can take natural Thyroid Calming Compound tincture 2-3 times a day for those 6 weeks to suppress the spurts. So that is the plan, I have been using the tincture as needed, but she says no, it has to be a daily suppression for the full 6 weeks. Fingers crossed that this will indeed be the ticket. I do know the tincture DOES work, within 15 mins.
Thank you justme...I wish the anxiety would go away..it just comes on and is relentless causing me to halt just about everything.
Cjj88 yes I have had this and it's also getting better. I think mine was because I didn't feel normal so I couldn't talk with the people I usually talk with. Now that I'm starting to feel better and don't feel so down its easier but I can't take much bs from anybody or I go off on them. Before when I was on he M I would get all entangled in all the drama but now I can't go there because it doesn't feel right anymore and it feeds that negativity that came from the M. The anxiety I have now is getting to be less and less so I'm not as easily triggered as I was before so I've started talking again but I don't get into any crazy talk if you know what I mean? I tell the person I have to go now or I change the subject. I hope some of this made sense to you and helps. Hang in there you'll know when it's time to talk until then honor what you need to do for your healing.
The other day I had that in my left temple but it wasn't severe. It drove me bonkers. I think these weird aches and pains have to do with the neuro part of he whole mess. I hope it feels better soon.
Anyone have pain in the side of their head. It hits like an electric jolt. Like a migraine. Its a constant dull pain but then ill also get a jolt. Wierd!
The brain fog is part of it . I also believe its oart of the anxiety everyone develops after getting of the M . I am at 2 months and it got better but anxiety and tension headaches are there . Also lately been struggling with some of my latest bp readings . But i also stopped walking for 4 days . Which i think its bad but i will restart today .
I have a question that I am almost scared to ask. Going through this withdrawal did any of you feel as if it is a struggle to get motivated to do anything, even the simplest of things like talking to friends? It just seems that until that "fog" starts to lift I don't want to talk to anyone or be social. Which is odd because I am always a social person.I hope I am not the only this has/is happening to. Hope it is a better day for all.
Wow! It's sounding as though a few of you are beginning to break free of the Metoprolol grip! That's great to hear! Once you have a fairly good day here and there, you'll find them occurring much more frequently as the days pass by.
For those asking about L-Theanine, I found it to be a very mild anxiety-reducing supplement at best. It certainly doesn't have the kind of 'kick' that Xanax or other similar drugs might have, but I did find that it took the edge off just a wee bit. It's probably better than nothing, but as Justme has stated, taking drugs such as Xanax only opens another potentially serious problem if one isn't careful. Why is it that the vast majority of doctors are so eager to prescribe drugs that essentially mask the problem at hand? Frankly, this bugs the crap out of me. For a guy who's about to turn 62, I'm just very thankful that I'm no longer on any prescription drugs whatsoever.
Anyway, just hang in there everybody! The good days are just around the corner!
Thanks just me . I am right behind you only 2 months for me but i think we will all get there and be normal again .
The end of this month will be 3 months not four. Trying to push it along I guess
I'm really happy that your be came down in 10 min. Jr. My doc had told me awhile back that it's normal for Our bp to rise when under stress but that it should come back down so yay for your bp for turning around!
Very curious, said Alice lollo cute statement
I'm gonna try that L-thianine. I know this sounds weird but I can't take the vit c that often cause it sets me off. Don't get it hmmmm. Gonna keep on trying different things. The end of this month will be 4 months for me. I woke up from a nap today with my heart pounding so I just stayed still with my eyes closed and smiled and for some reason it calmed down. I think the smile sent a message to my body that all was okay. I'll keep trying this Lololo I know, I know sounds crazy but I know you guys get it. I am as sane as they come and this I do know for sure. Thanks peeps!
Sandra . The l theanine kind of helps with anxiety with me . I take in the morning due mornings were always rougher for me but it helps alittle
I actually had a decent day until all of a sudden my blood pressure went up to 170/100 for like 10 minutes . I think it may have bee. Due to stress and bad eating this past 3 days . But now i am at 125/83
The one thing I DID notice today was a a lot of ringing in my ears. It was loud enough to hear over tv and dogs carrying on and playing, so very noticeable. It seems to have subsided now. Very curious, said Alice.
