Metoprolol Withdrawal (Page 76) (Top voted first)

Updated

i've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.

i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.

is this withdrawal? how long will it last?

i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.

I have had a crappy couple weeks. Started out just being real dizzy. Then really light headed, short of breath and anxious. Today my head feels funky and I am shaky. Just feel yucky. Had a good week then this hit and has been this way a couple weeks. This goodthen bad is teterrible! 5 mo off and still dealing with this?!? Anyone else this far off still having same symptoms?

I am 6 mos off and still fighting the same fight you are Sandra. I see doc monthly, have further tweaked my diet (much more raw dark vegs etc), and am trying to keep my chin up. I broke down bawling all over my husband just last night, some things he said made me realize just how little others understand about how this affects us. He felt awful, but he needed to understand! Every day is still a crap shoot, but I remain hopeful that I will continue to improve. Stay strong!

I was doing great, no psvts for almost a month. I had not taken any metoprolol for the last week , after weaning myself down to 3 mgs a day. Then today, three psvts in a few hours--I had almost forgotten how fast a heart can beat....and how exhausting these episodes can be. I took 6 mgs and now feel tired and unsure what direction to take. Anybody have any ideas?

Lauren, when you have these "waves" of withdrawal, do you have a few good weeks (but a few small effects still) and then major effects for a couple weeks? I just got off a bad 2 week run but im still having a few problems. What problems are you still having? I still have fast heart rate when I mow or clean house. Also have some anxiety and lately been getting ddepressed in the evenings. Als dizzy and last week was very light headed and shaky.

Sounds exactly like me Sandra. :(
I do notice that the good days or stretches are slowly getting to be of better quality, then whammo.

I've been on Metoprolo for many years. I am starting to have adverse side effects. I plan on going to my doctor to start weaning off. I have read terrible results from weaning off of this drug. I wonder if it has caused heart damage.

Sandra- i have the same symptoms but also anxiety randomly. It feels like my nervous system is still off . Also hate the fatigue i get when i try to do hard activities. Some times i am normal sometimes i get super tired just washing my car. I was on the M for 10 months and i was at 200mgs

Thats exactly what it feels like. Like our nervous system needs to reset! Im still so sensitive to any meds that go into my body. Any idea what we can do to "reset" our system? My anxiety is still there too. I was only on 6mg for 1 1/2 yrs.

Sandra-believe me if i knew i would have told everyone, but from reading this chat I think its a matter of time. Some people are quicker and some take longer.

JR- look up Alpha Lipoic Acid. I have been told it can help the nervous system to heal. I am gonna try it.

Today is just as bad, I am at work trying to act normal. This is especially hard now that my Mom Boss is home on maternity leave for the next 12 weeks. Not sure HOW I'm going to get thru this M-Sydrome episode. I sure hope it goes away quickly and I don't end up with a couple weeks of crap. Same exact symptoms Jimbo lists. Hate this. SO hard to remain hopeful and positive.

Hi Monique, you are NOT crazy and you are NOT alone. You will find it comforting and informative to read thru these posts from beginning to end. We have all figured out that we are among those whose systems take months or even years to reset from this very damaging drug. Don't give up, don't give in. You WILL get better. You may need to tweak your diet, and make sure to drink plenty of clean water, and eat lots of protein. Some of us have found supplements that seem to help, it seems to be hit or miss. We are all here for you!
