Metoprolol Withdrawal (Page 73) (Top voted first)
Updatedi've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.
i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.
is this withdrawal? how long will it last?
i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.
Hey Lauren and JR how has your appetite been through this? I usually had a strong appetite but it seems over this withdrawal period my appetite will go away for days sometimes a week and then return for a day or two.
It affected mine i try to remind my self to eat . I was always terrible at eating breakfast and this made i worst i go days without breakfast but i eat lunch and dinner .
I totally feel that way -CJJ88 . But i dont know sometimes i think i should be doing better by now but i am not anxiety kills me and like i said i get the physical symptoms like chest tighten, back pain etc.
Thats awesome Sandra are you doing the tinture ? How much of a difference did it make ?
I slacked off the tincture for a few days because it made me feel so terrible in the beginning when I started it. It kinda scared me off. Going to take a dose here in a min and try again.
Wonky head today and a little dizzy. 2 months off. Losing hope! Im off this week for Spring Break and was reallly wanting to get something accomplished :( not happening.
I finally caved in and started taking Lexapro. I had too many physical anxiety symptoms. But my doctor is aware and started me on only 2.5 mgs and then Will go to 5mg . Lets see how this goes yesterday was my first pill.
I hope it helps you JR...good luck
Thank you ccjj88 i thought about it long and hard and came to conclusion that we suffer hard after getting off beta bkockers because our systems go out of line and develop hard anxiety . So i want to gey rid of it so i also know if my bp is ok with out meds.
OMG having a ROUGH few days, majorly disrupted sleep schedule for 2 of last three nights has totally torpedoed me. Wonky head, lots of pounding pulse episodes, dizzy spells, amxiety. Tincture helps tamp it down but obviously I'm not out of the woods yet. After 6 good days.... so disappointing. SO hard to work like this.
Totally with yall . Aparently lexapro doesnt settle in until a week or 2 . So hopefully it kicks in soon but i has helped sleep better.
Lauren, what does your wonky head feel like?
Erin, sorry to hear about your troubles with Metoprolol, but you've found a place where many others have gone through the same ordeal. I'll second Lauren's idea of reading past posts in this thread, for there's a lot of good information here. Perhaps the first thing to keep in mind is that we're all different, and the drug's rebound effects and effect everyone in different ways. The key is to find a path that works best for you. I'd start by weaning very slowly and carefully. If you're on 12.5 mg daily with no ill effects, you can split that in half and see how it affects you. Once you become stable for a few days at 6 mg or so, split it in half again and so on. I know it sounds like miniscule amounts, but sometimes that's what we have to do. It's likely that you have an ultra-high sensitivity to Metroprolol - as many of us do - and it's something that doctors appear to know little about. Wishing you the best!
CJJ88-what symptoms are you still experiencing?
I just got on here to say the very same things. I am losing hope. SO depressed.
That's a total symptom of hyperthyroid as I have discovered. Look in the mirror when you are next feeling Awful, stick out your tongue, and see if it vibrates . Another indication of hyper thyroid.
Lexapro does work quickly, but much depends on the dose frequency of administration (We usually write for one tablet daily, regardless). I rescrubbed it for one my office staff who had been taking Zoloft but complained it didn't help with the really bad days (she has one or two common phobias, too) I didn't write for the Zoloft, but, considering her symptoms, etc. it was a reasonable choice. I don't think she went into details about her "bad days," but we became friends to the point when sIn about a week she was feeling better and then better still.,10mg QD is enough for her, but some patients need from 5 to 20mg QD.
Hey Lauren, you are not on any other Meds correct?
No, just the thyroid calming tincture and a few natural supplements. Big pharma and I apparently do NOT play well together .
