Metoprolol Withdrawal (Page 52) (Top voted first)

Updated

i've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.

i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.

is this withdrawal? how long will it last?

i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.

Danny- was the anxiety the worst part ? I have been off 5 months too and now taking Lexapro but its been hard especially since it makes you feel worse in the beginning. My doc does not want to give me xanax or and of those type of drugs for now .

Cjj88-i have been struggling pretty bad with the anxiety . I started taking lexapro again but have to really give it some to kick in . Last i only took it for 3 weeks . I need to give it a full 6 weeks . Every thing else is normal and but anxiety is horrible when it kicks in. How about you taking anything for anxiety ?

The doctor prescribed Ativan but I am scared to take it...just fighting with it the best I can. I'm sorry we are having to deal with this.

Cjj88- thats a benzo like Xanax they work but can be addictive. But i know there are times that are hard and you might need to take one . Just be careful. I think we will eventually get better but beating anxiety is a tough battle .

Yeah JR I have not touched them and have no plans too. The anxiety has cropped up the last two days and just going to wait it out again...it's such a vicious cycle.

Why are my post not posting? I hope this one does. My anxiety was a feeling of nervousness shaky voice, discomfort, achy chest/heart, feeling physically "scared". A few times I almost checked into a a hospital. I was at the movies and felt like electric waves running from the back of my neck to the rest of my body. Unbearable. I left the theatre sitting and pacing back and forth. Started driving to the hospital but the symptoms started lessening or so I told myself they would.

I used to get deep scary palpitations when I went out to my hot car on a hot day. It has lessened over time. I think the magnesium and trace minerals have helped.

Sandra, are you taking magnesium at bedtime? Should be taking 6-800 mg nightly
Potassium min 3k daily. Also did you add copper 6-8 mg at night for that anemia?

Sandra, stop the iron and take the copper daily for 3-4 weeks, then try adding iron back in slowly, continuing copper. :)

Norma, you will need to titrate off VERY VERY slowly, it takes some of us up to a year to be totally symptom free, due to the time it takes for sensitive folks to get their systems to reset. This is a NASTY medicine. What you are describbing is right on track with what the rest of us have gone thru. Read thru old posts, it will be an eye opener and very helpful.

Lauren, I also broke down last week. Cried myself to sleep. My husband and I were supposed to have a date night after not having kids at home for first time in 6 mo. I felt terrible and didnt even want to go out to eat. I hated my body for ruining our night. I dont think ill ever feel normal again :(
