Metoprolol Withdrawal (Page 27)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

i've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.

i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.

is this withdrawal? how long will it last?

i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.

Feeling decent considering. Just sore and trying to rest. I did have some elevated HR and I’m wondering if that’s from the tramadol (pain reliever) I also had some washes of the tingles/adrenaline late last night.

Thank you! It was fast and I was home like an hour after surgery. Just trying to rest now and get this awful gas they used to extend the stomach out of my system

Oh no! I’m sure you will be okay. It’s a routine procedure. Just try to keep calm. I hope every thing goes well today. My thoughts are with you. Please let me know how it goes later.

Re: Txcandy1 (# 2028) Expand Referenced Message

I’m sorry. You were doing so well! Maybe they are just mild waves of adrenaline surges. I know mine come with an immense sense of impending doom, I start sweating, severe headaches, and I can’t move. They’ve been mild since I stopped eating carbs and sugars. I just can’t wait for them to stop completely! I hope you have a better day today. :)

Re: Juliya (# 2026) Expand Referenced Message

Yes the surges would freak me out. When at first they changed the M to an even
Higher dose cuz they thought it wasn’t working ( when in fact it was the reaction to M) those surges would really freak me out. I came so close to going to the hospital many times.

I was feeling really good today and just got a wash of dizziness and funky feelings. HR went a little high to about 117. Maybe it’s small adrenaline rushes cuz it feels kind of similar :( ugh this just sucks. I’m laying in bed now resting. Maybe I should try giving up the carbs for a bit too.

Oh man I envy you. Those surges are crazy. And I keep getting them. That’s why I had to stop eating carbs and sugars. It was making them WAY worse, it would be so bad I couldn’t move. Yes that was the endocrinologist. I will let you know what she says. When I see her tomorrow. I’m so glad yours didn’t last that long and now you just have some minor complications.

Re: Juliya (# 2024) Expand Referenced Message

I’ve been feeling good these last few days. Had blood work, ekg and Covid testing done yesterday.

Oh man, so what do they do for overactive adrenals? I wonder if I had that as well. I don’t get the adrenaline surges as much anymore. The last time I had then when I messaged in here was the first time I had then since probably day 35ish and before. The adrenaline rushes tapered off after that. I had that one random day where the HR was high that day and then small adrenaline rushes at night but haven’t had anymore since.

Let me know what they plan to do to correct the adrenals. That was with an endocrinologist?

Hey mama! Just checking in on you. How have you been feeling these past couple of days? I got my blood work back. I have overactive adrenal glands. I have an appointment tomorrow to finish going over results and what can be done about it. I remember you saying you had you’re first good day on day 35 off metoprolol. Did you have any adrenaline surges after that one day? That came and went??

Re: Txcandy1 (# 2022) Expand Referenced Message

I’m glad you’re having an amazing weekend camping! I started taking a multivitamin a day. Just a regular women’s one a day. That started yesterday. And I started eating a glycemic diet. I read that that helps the adrenal glands repair. So I’m going to do that for about 3 months and see if they repaired, then can repair themselves. And I noticed my heart rate goes up after eating any carbs or sugars it just shoots up to 115. So I’m not making it a permanent diet. Just for three months. My PCP wants me to see a neurologist about POTS. Which is an autonomic nerves system disorder. Which the hypothalamus controls. So I’m hoping it will fix that too before I get labeled with POTS on my record. Which I know is from coming off this medication. Sounds to me like you’re slowly getting better! Slowly, but getting there! Today is 40 days off for me so I’ve got a long way to go to catch up to where you are. Good job for hanging in there this long mama!

Re: Juliya (# 2021) Expand Referenced Message

Tomorrow will be 100 days off M for me. And it definitely is so much better than the first month. Today I had higher HR after I ate too, plus the heat of outside. About 125 but it’s finally settled down to about 100 when up and around. I don’t get dizzy too often but I hate it when it does come. I never had any of these symptoms before metoprolol. So frustrating. Overall it’s been a good weekend of camping though

Re: Txcandy1 (# 2020) Expand Referenced Message

Today is an so/so day. I’m not having any adrenaline surges but I’m getting elevated heart rates after I eat and they stay like an hour or so. I do get dizzy but it’s rare and after I eat. And really just started today. I’ll get the high heart rate and try to stand and get a bit dizzy. So I don’t have the full weirdo head experience. I did have a great deal of impending doom, sweating and nausea with the adrenaline surges though. But everyone reacts differently too. I get a lot of headaches too.

Re: Juliya (# 2019) Expand Referenced Message

Oh good!!!! So happy for you. I woke up today feeling a little funky. HR is a little elevated when standing but back in the low 90s when sitting. Do you ever have weirdo head/a little dizziness? I never had that until I started taking and withdrawing from Metoprolol. It’s gotten way better over time but sometimes i still get little bouts of it.

Oh let me know about what your results say. I think if yours comes back with a hypothalamus/adrenal disfunction, I’ll go get tested to. I wonder what the treatment for that is?

Re: Txcandy1 (# 2018) Expand Referenced Message

Oh my goodness! Yesterday was my first full good day!!!! I was so happy to not have any adrenaline surges! I still had random bouts of elevated HR. But I can deal with those. It’s the symptoms of the adrenaline surges that I can take. My doctor said it absolutely could be a hypothalamus- Pituitary-adrenal a is dysfunction. That any withdrawal from any substance can cause it. But endocrinology can diagnose that so she wants to wait for the blood work to come back (which only half did) and make sure that’s what it is before we discuss treatment. Which I can agree with. No need to treat something over just a guess as it could be wrong. Here’s hoping we continue to have good days!!!!

Re: Juliya (# 2017) Expand Referenced Message

Yes I don’t do supplements either! I tried the magnesium combo that people were taking on here and it made me feel weird but that was during withdrawal so who knows.

My mom’s heart rate was 140 yesterday’s but it made me think that maybe sometimes when it’s hot that’s normal for people.

My HR Yesterday stayed relatively low yesterday even with all the packing and unpacking so I was happy about that. Every day is different though as you know lol

Let me know what your PCP says about what you researched :)

Are you having a better day today?

Re: Txcandy1 (# 2016) Expand Referenced Message

That I’m not sure of. I have an appointment with my PCP today so I’m going to ask her. Unless it’s under a doctors advice I don’t just pop supplements, they can do as much harm as good sometimes especially since they aren’t FDA approved or of you mix the wrong kind. I knew something for your gallbladder was on Monday. Lol. At least that 140 hr in the heat might be normal for you. So that’s good news. :)

Re: Juliya (# 2015) Expand Referenced Message

So how do fix and Axis dysfunction? Will it go back to normal eventually?

My surgery is next Thursday :) but labs and Covid testing on Monday.

My moms HR was 145 today in the heat as we were unpacking, so that made me feel a little more Normal LOL
