Metoprolol Withdrawal (Page 26)

i've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.
i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.
is this withdrawal? how long will it last?
i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.
Re: Juliya (# 2053)
Did you ever get your test results back from the tests you had done independently through quest?
Re: Juliya (# 2053)
How high is your HR? Mine has been pretty normal for the last week and I’m hoping 1. Either my body is getting better from metoprolol or 2. Combo of both and that my gallbladder is out and that’s healing too. I did have a sorta not great week about 1.5 weeks ago what I typed below where I was having the random heart spikes but so far this week it’s been normal with no spikes.
I have my 3 month follow up with cardio in 2 weeks.
Are you still having adrenaline rushes? Have you gained some weight back?
I’ll look up the what you said and see what it says.
Hope you had a fun visit!
Re: Txcandy1 (# 2045)
I’m doing okay. Still with the high heart rate and everything. Google “what nutrients does metoprolol deplete”. It will tell you CoQ10. Then read up on CoQ10 and what it does to the body. I just ordered some supplements and started taking them. Apparently it takes a few weeks for it to start working though. Sorry for such a delayed response. I was visiting my brother out of town. I hope you’re doing better!!!!
Re: Juliya (# 2049)
Hey mama! Just checking in to see how you have been. Hope you’ve been ok. I’ve had a couple of high HR days :( called my cardio yesterday cuz I was feeling funky. He looked at my monitor and saw the high HRs but can’t really say it’s an arrhythmia yet. So frustrating. Everything looks fine and he thinks a lot of it is hydration issues. He said I could take a calcium channel blocker whenever needed but i really don’t want to after the whole metoprolol ordeal.
Hope you’re ok!
Re: Juliya (# 2049)
Hey girl! You hanging in there?
Re: Juliya (# 2049)
Oh no, what’s going on? Adrenaline rushes?
Ugh, so your doctor really doesn’t know what to tell you? That is so frustrating. I mean obviously something is going on, especially because of the weight loss.
I’m feeling good this week. The soreness from the surgery is becoming less and less so that’s good. I have my two week follow up on Friday.
Re: Txcandy1 (# 2041)
Still pretty bad..... my doctor doesn’t even know what specialist to send me too now. I’m still waiting on the results from the amino acid test too. How have your days been?
Re: Juliya (# 2047)
Hey girl! How are you feeling this week?
Re: Txcandy1 (# 2045)
Oh I’ve been feeling awful! It’s been a horrible week!!! Have you been feeling better today?
Re: Steven (# 11)
I feel exactly the same as you feels like your not living always on edge
Re: Juliya (# 2044)
Oh that not bad! Let me know when you get your results. I Might do the same if you think it’s worth it with the results.
How frustrating with both those doctors. It’s like gee thanks
I’m hoping I can get a good nights rest and tomorrow will be better.
Have you still been feeling off?
Re: Txcandy1 (# 2043)
Neurologist said there’s nothing they can do. The test cost $238. But again. To me it’s worth it. The endocrinologist just said my body is stressed and I have to figure out what’s causing it. I could’ve told her that. So she’s not doing anything about it. So figured since no doctors would listen to me I’d get some labs ran on my own. It takes 6 to 8 days for the results. I’m sorry you’re having another rough day. It is possible it is from the anesthesia. Sometimes that causes reactions for months in some people.
Re: Juliya (# 2042)
Dang! I’m sorry. What did the neurologist say? Sometimes specialists can be so ridiculous. Is the endocrinologist going to do anything about your elevated levels?
Good for you for having your own labs run! That’s so smart. Was it super expensive if you don’t mind me asking?
I’ve had a rough day today. Washes of either hot flashes or adrenaline or both. A few whee I get so hot and feel like I could pass out but I don’t. And just generally feel off. Could this be from anesthesia? Since our systems are already jacked up from the M? I just want to feel normal as I know you can relate. This is so frustrating. I’m 8 days post op today.
So glad you aren’t really reacting to not taking M. Hopefully it just stays that way.
Re: Txcandy1 (# 2041)
Hey mama! Sorry I’ve had a very rough couple of days. I took the metoprolol for 4 days then just stopped it. It’s day 2 without any metoprolol and I don’t feel any different. Like as of now the withdrawal hasn’t gotten any worse. The only thing the endocrinologist told me was that my adrenaline levels were elevated and my body was stressed. The neurologist was an absolute waste of time. I got nothing from that visit. Anytime you stop a medication your body goes through a depletion of nutrients and vitamins. Not a single doctor believed this was from metoprolol and refused to order an amino acid plasma panel. It’s blood work to check for nutrient deficiencies. So I ordered one myself and just got the blood drawn for it today. Quest Diagnostics has a patient oriented laboratory so they allow patients to order their own tests. I had to pay out of pocket for it. But to me it’s worth it so I can find out what I need to replace until my body goes back to homeostasis. I’m sorry you had a bad night. It’s kind of like my days lately! It’s horrible.
Re: Juliya (# 2038)
Hey girl! I hope all is well with you. I know you had a few appts in the last couple days. Did they give you a treatment plan?
I had an episode last night where I woke up in sweat and racing heart :( it took a bit to calm down. But it finally did. It’s so hard not to freak out and wanna go to the dang ER. It didn’t get super high, just around 125, but it was the feeling that totally sucked!!! I might make an appt with an endocrinologist this week to maybe see if something is going on with all that.
Hope you’re doing ok!
Re: Juliya (# 2038)
Hope your appt went well and you felt ok today!
Re: Juliya (# 2038)
Oh no!!! How long did it stay in the 120-140 range? Oh man, 93lbs IS low. Your metabolism must be in over drive right now. Please let me know what they say tomorrow.
Yes, I think when you jump to the lower dose of M, your body freaks out. I mean I only went down from 12.5 to half of that and my body freaked! I remember, I think it was Bob, on here writing down a formula and it’s like even with a small dose your body is still going to get some and will still react when touch jump to that lower dose.
Are you trying to wean off now? If so, just take it slowly and take as many days as you need on each level before you move down to the next to try to minimize the rebound tachycardia.
I also remember Sandra on here having to go backwards on here a few times because of the same reason and then you have to wean again.
Keep me updated and I hope today is much better for you
Re: Txcandy1 (# 2037)
I’m so glad to hear you are feeling better!!! I had to back track. My heart rate this Sunday was between 120-140 and wasn’t coming down. So I had to take a 12.5 metoprolol to bring it down. So I’m back on it for now. I’m also down to 93lbs. My metabolism is crazy out of control! I have an appointment tomorrow with a neurologist to figure out the best way to control my central nervous system. I don’t know if it’s me being underweight that’s causing it to get worse or what. But something has got to give. I’m in like dangerous territory with my weight and it just keeps going down. My cardiologist told me to do 12.5 for a week then do 12.5 every other day for a week then stop. But when I did that my heart rate went to 120 with crazy palps and I freaked out so I slowly weaned but cutting down to 1/4 for a week then 1/8 even 1/16th of a pill and then stopped completely. I don’t think that helped me either.
Re: Juliya (# 2036)
Today’s been pretty good! A tad foggy head but not bad.
I weaned off by taking 12mg, then the next 3 days 6mg and then nothing. The first time I went from the 12 to the 6 I went to the ER cuz I was having crazy dizziness and rebound tachycardia. All the tests were normal though so it was just withdrawal from going even lower. I really think all this foggy head and sometimes dizzy I still have is just damage from the M :( I hope it eventually goes away fully. I might go to ENT just to get my ears checked out but I think it’s the M.
How haha you been feeling? I’m currently 107 days off M
I haven’t taken any of the pain pills since just the 1 tramadol the day of. I’ve just used ibuprofen and Tylenol
Re: Txcandy1 (# 2035)
I’m so sorry. How are you feeling today? The day after surgery is usually the worst! How did you taper off the metoprolol if you don’t mind my asking. Did you just stop at 12.5mg or did you do 12.5 every other day?
