Metoprolol Withdrawal (Page 24) (Top voted first)

Updated

i've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.

i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.

is this withdrawal? how long will it last?

i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.

My experience was very much like Joyce (177, 179, 183, 201, 270). Tapering after relatively low levels didn't work for me either -- pounding palpations, shortness of breath, short term memory loss, and anxiety simply increased! So the only option was to go cold turkey off 12.5 Metropolol twice daily. Irregular heartbeat started 22 hours after stopping accompanied by light-headedness, and anxiety. I went for very long moderately paced walks and did slow deep breathing exercises at bed time. I'm on Day 4 and have just established a steady heart rate of 72 bpm after 90 hours off the stuff. At this point I am cautiously optimistic.

Didn't win the Powerball but on the bright side, I have had a reasonably ok day. Fingers crossed that this will continue for a stretch. I hate getting up every morning to a crap shoot. Trying to be patient.

How long did your heart rate stay kinda high after withdrawaling. Im only 3 weeks off. I went to clean my daughters bathroom and heart rate went to almost 160. I dont have a heart problem and it only gets high with exertion. Anyone else with this problem?

Justme.....I'd certainly like to hear your story. I've been off this drug since last June, and the experience alone will likely haunt me for the rest of my life. I really feel for those who are still struggling with it.

Sorry about your neck Sandra. Can't say I've had neck problems but I do have little aches and pains in my wrists and knees. I don't think we should discount anything that hurts right now as not being metoprolol until we have been off of it for at least 6 months. Hang in there because this to shall pass but if we were still on this stuff it wouldn't pass.hang in there!

Unfortunately it's going to be an up and down battle.:/. I went for a massage last night and it felt wonderful but I think some of the that was stored in my fat cells broke loose and I started having a bad day but decided to leave the house and go roam around the stores. Came home and exercised....I felt so much better. I will not let this get me. We must remember that we are off of this stuff and it can't do anything but get better. I am still so thankful to have been awaken to what was causing all my craziness. I also read a lot of positive books that helps also. I hope you get to feeling better soon my friend. My husband was put on it and he's just fine. Just like our fingerprints we are all different. It does help a lot of people but I'm surely not one of them.

Justme you're sounding like the side effects brochure for Metoprolol to me. I've had the eye feeling on occasion. Dry eyes can also occur among a myriad of other issues. I think our doctors do not spend enough time with us to listen to our problems! That's the most criminal offense today because of pricing and insurance coverage! 5 minutes to 7 max is about average! I think my former PCP was the best ever. Too bad he relocated to another city! As a retired medical professional, I know this to be true. Time v is money today! Keep posting. We have a wonderful group support here.

I did have some headaches in the beginning but I just thought it was sinus issues so I never posted them but thinking back yes for sure! I'm sure they also will pass we can do this. I hate that we have to suffer like his but sooooo thankful we know about it otherwise it would be really crazy not knowing what was happening. I really didn't tell my doc anything so it's not there fault because I was keeping all the crazies to myself so they wouldn't try and put me on anything if that makes sense

Woke up with a horrible headache again. Feels like a knife in my head on the left side. Hurts so bad. Starting to worry me. I keep thinking I have a stupid blood clot or something. My neck feels extremely tight too. Still possible withdrawal??

My 24 year old daughter was put on this meroprolol while in the hospital for pneumonia. Her heart rate went up after a breathing treatment so they put her on this. She was taking 25mg 2x a day. She wants to stop taking it but is afraid of the withdrawals. Any advice would be great.
