Metoprolol And Side Effects

Took 25mg for 5-6 years and upped by Dr. to 50mg a few years ago due to supposed HBP. Started losing my hair all within one month on crown after being on Metoprolol for a couple of years. Thought it was due to menopause. Was put on med due to PVC's (early heart beats). Turned out several years after going on this med found out that PVC's were due to lack of Vitamin D. Dr. told me to continue meds to lower my BP. Recently ran out of meds and while waiting for refill, took BP several times a day. Found out my BP was better without the Metoprolol. Been off of it cold turkey for a month. Unless my BP goes up, I will NEVER go back on this again.

Hello, Nix! How are you? I'm glad you're doing so well without it, but please continue to keep an eye on your blood pressure, to be safe.

The good news, however, is that even if it does start to elevate, again, you don't have to go back on the Metoprolol. There are many other blood pressure medications available that you can try.

A really good one that doesn't cause as many side effects is Labetalol, you may want to keep it in mind to ask your doctor about it. Its typical side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, increased urination and hypotension.

I had problems with many blood pressure medications, but have been able to take it successfully for several years, now.

UPDATE: Now off of Metoprolol cold turkey for about two months. I am taking a diuretic of hydrochlorothiazide 25mg for edema which may be keeping my BP low but my BP has been extremely normal and I have not had any PVC's. I take 5000 IU each week, as I have low Vit D numbers. Otherwise I am doing great now without Metoprolol which, I apparently never needed. This is just me and I do not recommend the same to others as your situation may be different from mine. Consult your doctor.

I take ternormin for mitra value prolaspe and have for years. Through out this time I have had a lot of thinking hair also. Blood Pressure meds are believed to play a part in Burning Mouth Syndrome.

I took metoprolol for 1 year plus, 25mg 2x day. Felt very tired and lethargic. I had to force myself to do chores with my horses. Heartbeat slow about 60 and up normal with med. Felt like just sitting in a chair. Could not stand heat over 75 degrees. I quit 3 days ago after tapering for 14 days to 50% of the dose, then was told to stop. I feel good all over, but am now having a very high heart rate and high bp, especially with much exertion. Concerned about changes in heart rate and bp. Will stay off for awhile if cno. Any suggestions as to how long this might last? I am concerned this could lead to an infarction. I do not have a strong cardiac team. I lost my best Dr to a new hospital.

I take Metoprolol ER 100mg and Losartan/hctz100-25mg. Can either of these medications cause you to cough?
