I've been on methadone now for 2 1/2 years starting at 10 mls going to 110 now at 48. I have been losing my teeth and nails and my bones have been cracking and breaking ( literally ). I am wondering if anyone else has been going through this? ## Has this only been happening since you started taking the methadone? I've honestly never heard of this happening to anyone, but it may also be a good idea to get blood work done to check and see if you may be deficient in any nutrients. Low levels of certain vitamins and minerals, like B12 can result in hair loss and weak nails, etc. You can also view a list of methadone's side effects by following the link below; although I don't see anything listed that relates to what you're experiencing: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0...

I need help, I live in Lafayette, IN, had a urine screen at my pain dr and tested positive for Methadone, which I have never taken. Now my pain dr has banned me from her practice, my family dr has banned me, all of the clinic has red flagged me and I cannot see any dr at this clinic. I went out of town and asked for a referral to a pain dr, I was treated like s***, and I was told "I had burned my bridge in Indiana" and nobody would ever see me again. I have never tested positive before, and have had plenty of urine screens. I went into my dr's office and begged them to do another test, even take a hair sample, and they said no, I went to the ER and asked, but they said with my insurance I would have to have an order from my dr, so I asked if I could pay out of pocket, they s...

I have been on Methadone for 15 years. I am now 56 years old l really need to know why l have put on so much weight on? Does anyone know about Methadone and Menopause? Any information would be appreciated. ## Hi..I am 55 years old and I have been on methadone off and on since the early 1980's. I got on maintenance in Jan 2001 and have been on it ever since. When I started methadone, I weighed 125LBS, about 8 months later I realized I gained 30+ pounds, and everyone said it was the methadone. Its always the demon drug in everyones little minds, well, I went for my annual with my PCP and he was pissed about my weight gain. He is fully aware that I am a methadone patient and he didn't believe it was the methadone, and I will add I didn't believe it either, well a week or 2 later...

Hi everyone, my doctor put me on methadone after trying many of other pain medications. So far, nothing else has helped. I was in a car accident and have many disc problems in my neck and back. The doctor also put me on oxycodone for break through pain. I'm hoping these medications help. Can anyone give me their advice on how well these medications have worked for them? ( from those whom are on them) ## Yes I can answer as I have disc degeneration (multi-layer ), (cervical and lumbar) with chronic Fibromyalgia Been in pain management 3 years on same meds. I've been on both fentanyl and methadone for 14 years this has been the only combination to keep my pain in check.I only use the done for breakthru pain and it is doing its job.I've tried more pain meds than I can count and I found one that works.just take it right!!! ## Hello, Missylynn! How are you? I am so very glad that you've found a combination that works so well for you, that's fantastic. I wish all pain sufferers were as fortunate. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Do you have any problems with side effects from taking them?

I have had 5 back operations and none of them worked, I am in costant pain 24/7 and have no life. I don't want to take opiates because as we all know you can only take them for a small period of time. I am looking for a Doctor in Rhode Island that prescribes methadone for pain ## Hello, Kruzz321! How are you? Many people take opiates successfully for long periods of time to treat chronic pain, or if they have intractable pain due to possibly terminal illnesses, such as stage 4 cancer. There is no hard and fast rule that someone can only take them for short periods of time. Additionally, Methadone is an opiate narcotic, just like Oxycodone, Suboxone, Opana, Morphine and etc. It's actually known to be highly addictive and to cause very bad withdrawals and cravings, when someone ha...

Can Xanax cause a false positive &/or methamphetamine? I read earlier that Oxycodone, opana and methadone can cause false positive or even dual readings (opiate and methadone because similarities. I need help. I am confused and scared.. Please read... Please reply...... My story: ( it asks you to be detailed as possible, so I apologize in advance: I went to my pains mgmt doctor. I tested positive for methadone. I have not taken methadone. I am not sure what happens next. This is what I do know. I take 30 mg Oxycodone. I went there the week before but elected to reschedule because I had not met this dr, huge turnover recently, and he (the dr) was yelling at the staff. He was not having a good day. I have seen 3 different dr's in 3 months. I hsve no relationships with these dr...

My doctor won't put me on anything like benzos because im on methadone. I'm now on sertraline 50mg and that's not helping either. This has been going on for 5 months now and i feel im not getting the help i should be because im on methadone. My life is a nightmare right now. Is there anything i can do? ## Have you tried seeing a different doctor, perhaps a mental health specialist? They are usually the most knowledgeable about what medications can and can't be safely combined to treat such conditions. And Benzodiazepines really don't help much with depression, they mainly act as downers, so they can actually make it worse. ## Could you ever come off the methadone? Maybe then you could get something that would help. I am not experienced in drug addiction or methadone ...

seeking a dr who will subscribe monthly methadone 10 milligram pills ## Hello, Walter! How are you? If you are taking it for addiction/maintenance, then a regular doctor will not be able to prescribe it for you. It would be against the law for them to do so. It can only be administered in a clinical setting by those that have been specially trained in its use for such. If you require it for pain management, then due to the new regulations that were put in place last year, you'll need to see a pain management specialist, as a general practice doctor can no longer do pain management and prescribe such medications. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. If i...

does methadone come in capsule form, are they red and white with no numbers? ## No, there is no Methadone in capsule form listed in the U.S. prescription databases that I can find. Learn more Methadone details here. If there were, it would have to have some type of marking, according to U.S. law, to enable its identification. I'll double check my findings, but I find it very unlikely that this is any type of prescription product. What led you to believe it was Methadone? ## Does methadone come in a compound? And are they orange and green? Is there any difference between methadone and compound methadone?

my doctor is saying because of new law he cant precribe more than 50 mg a month of methadone because of new law??? ## Hello, Kelly! How are you? Yes, there are new regulations in place that restrict how much your doctor can prescribe, except in cases where someone has intractable pain due to a possibly terminal illness, such as stage 4 cancer. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. I have been on alot of different medicationsls and quit takong everuthing after i became pregnant. I want to move from Maine to NH. I am on SSDI, and have medicaid in Maine, but I don't know if it is given automatically to people on disability in NH. Naturally, I want to have a clinic in place, BEFORE I move. I know you are supposed to be living there before you can apply, but I don't want to move there, and then find out I can't get Medicaid there! Anyone have experience in this subject? Thanks soooo much! ## I have to be honest and admit that I am not familiar with how it works in NH, it's been many years since I've been there and, even then, it was only for a short visit. But the idea I had would be to contact your current Medicaid caseworker and discuss it with them. They should be able to help you find the information you need. If you don't have a regular...

I am currently addicted to hydromorphine an I do them IV. I been reading and searching a safe way at home to detox. I tried staying in a medical detox but failed a few times recently. I have purchased methadone pills on the street. Because I am sick and tired of always being sick, either looking for ways, and means to get my fix daily and I sat back and seriously decided enough was enough. The time an energy spent getting and doing them is ridiculous as anyone with this addiction knows. I am really just wondering if anyone personally knows how to effectively taper with the pills at home because I do not want to end up in a position where I am gonna be more sick at the end of the taper cause that will defeat my whole purpose of doing this. Any help or advice will be gladly accepted and t...

Thorough education by my Pain Management Board Certified Doctor, and his Physician Assistant. The reason Doctor's like Methadone, is it reacts dually as both a traditional narcotic pain reducer, as well as working on NERVE pain. Very few narcotics work on Nerve pain. Usually you have to add Lyrica, or a step therapy drug such as gabapentin or Topamax. So its two birds with one stone. Also, methadone, at therapeutic doses, is lower in amount necessary to work, hence less side effects, including brain fog, dopy, or constipation. This is the same reason Pain Specialists prescribe (or did) Oxycodone. It did not work on nerve pain, only like a traditional strong narcotic, however was much less sedating. And all our goals are to be more active and live our lives with friends and family. An...

i moved to bristol,va and cant find anbody that will refill my meds ## Hello, Bob! How are you? If you are taking it for pain, then you'll need to see a pain management specialist. A general practice physician won't be able to prescribe it for you and to find a new doctor, you won't be able to ask them up front if they'll prescribe Methadone, because doctors are taught to view that as being drug seeking behavior. You'll need to set up an appointment with a doctor, make sure they get a full copy of your medical records and then discuss your treatment options, while at your appointment. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. If you are takin...

Is it legal for a doctor to ask for a pill count, if he/she is not the prescribing Dr.? The Dr. that does perscribe the pills knows that I am going to the clinic, and the clinic Dr. has already had contact with the Dr that prescribes my meds, And, btw, my Dr found the clinic Dr very insulting and offputting. All is above board, and I'm not trying to hide anything from the clinic Dr. But there are two Drs., (very young women), at the clinic that really treat patients like criminals, rather than desparate people seeking help for their disease. Also, any documentation I bring in always seems to get "lost" before it's entered into my paper and computer file.(Of course I always have copies!). ## Hello, Mz Q! How are you? Yes, they can ask for anything of the sort that they wa...
