Hello, everyone! I've heard stories about how some people stay on methadone 4 many years 2 life. Does anyone know if this is true? I've been on subs 4 almost 8 years. And, i was addicted 2 Oxy. (Heavy duty). I m just so scared if I got off that I would b back at a pain management addicted, again. Due 2 my severe pain from many medical problems. And, I DONT ever want 2 b in that situation, again! I'm sure a lot of u people understand that. Thanks 4 you're input.

Yes, Suboxone is a drug that most people do manage to get off of, unlike Methadone will many people end up staying on for life.
Some of it does depend on the person, but the Buprenorphine in the Suboxone is also not known to be as addictive and to cause as severe withdrawals as Methadone.
This is a narcotic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
Are there any other questions or concerns?
My sub doctor said that I might have to stay on suboxone for life. I disagree with him. Suboxone is solely used for getting off of opiates, and other reasons. That way you won't go through withdrawal symptoms as badly. There are many (not ALL) doctors who are over prescribing suboxone. I have read and heard this many times. I do agree. Not all people will. I have been on subs for a little over 3 yrs. It has helped me change my life around. And for that I am happy. BUT, because I have been on this drug for so long (that should be only used for a short period of time), it has many negative side effects that are extremely hard to deal with. Especially sleepiness, always tired (feels like you don't get enough sleep even if you sleep 9 hours or more), bad teeth problems, bad eating habits, loss of desire for life in general. Not everyone has these symptoms. Some have maybe one or two. Some have even more. This is for people that have been on suboxone for over 9 months. That's when I started noticing them. I've been taking 2mg for over a year and am planning to slowly taper off. I'm very nervous because of the horror stories I've read about suboxone withdrawal. But, I'm gonna try and bite the bullet. But, to your question yes, I have heard that. I haven't heard of people being on methadone for life. I do know some people who have been on it for a year or more and them saying it's just horrible for you to be on that for that long. It's damaging just like subs will eventually do to you. You do what's best for you. You are your own best doctor and you know yourself the best. Good luck.
P.S. I lost my train of thought a bit, there. Meant 2 ask if anyone has heard of being on suboxone for years or life?
