Methadone Clinic Right Thing To Do?
UpdatedMy son wants me to take him to a Methadone clinic to help with his long term opioid addiction, everything from Oxy to Dilaudid. Is this the right thing to do?

Hello, Gina! How is your son doing?
Methadone is a viable choice, however, most people that use it do end up needing a lifetime maintenance dose of it and daily visits to the clinic for a long time, before they earn take home doses, which are usually only up to 2 weeks worth.
The other option is Suboxone, many people that take it do end up eventually becoming completely drug free. It is covered by some insurance plans, plus the patient usually gets a full month prescription from the get go, though the doctor or pharmacist may supervise the first dosing.
You can discover more information on it at Suboxone.com click here.
They have a search engine that allows you to search by zip code for doctors in your area and you can read more about this treatment option.
The FDA classifies both of these medications as opiates, so they do carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation.
Is there anything else I can help with?
Suboxone is NOT an opiate. It is NOT considered an opiate by the FDA. YOU ARE GIVING DANGEROUS FALSE INFORMATION TO SOMEONE WHO KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT THESE DRUGS! SUBS ARE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, AND VERY HARD TO GET OFF OF JUST LIKE METHADONE. BUT SUBS ARE THE MOST DISGUSTING THING TO KEEP TAKING. MOST PEOPLE ACTUALLY DONT DETOX, THEY REMAIN ON THE SUBS BECAUSE THEY ARE CONVINCED ITS NOT A DRUG. IT GETS YOU A SYNTHETIC FAKE S****TY NASTY FEELING BUT USERS WHO ARE SICK ENJOY IT. METHADONE CAN BE DANGEROUS BUT IT IS AN OPIATE. THE DIFFERENCE IS SUBS BLOCK OTHER OPIATES. METHADONE WORKS WITH THE RECEPTORS INSTEAD OF BLOCKING THEM AND CLINGING ON FOR LIFE. DO NOT PUT HIM ON SUBS. METHADONE DETOX IS 13 DAYS. HE CAN START AT 30MG THEN WEAN DOWN TO DAY 13 TO AROUND 2-6 MG THEN STOP. ANY LONGER AND HE WILL WANT TO BE ON IT FOR THE LONG HAUL AND METHADONE HAS THE LONGEST WITHDRAWALS OF ALL BUT IT IS THE BEST CHOICE INSTEAD of him using dope and killing himself he can take one dose in the morn that will last all day and his body will start functioning and he will not feel high if he does keep himself on a low dose depending on his body metabolism, previous drug use, and tolerance to opioids. The detox is the best choice. Do not put him on maintenance that is long term and the wrong way to go. Getting clean is the right way. Good luck. Do not listen to this other lady, she is trying to sell you into a slave driving system of doctors making cash money with no insurance.
Hello. I hope your son is alright, I've been on methadone for a long time for pain. I've also been on Suboxone to try to get off the methadone. I'm also a mother, and there's no way in Hell or Heaven that I would ever try to help my son by allowing him to get on methadone. What a lot of people won't tell you is that methadone has an extremely long Half-Life so it remains in your system anywhere from 5 to 7 days. To make matters worse it also gets into your bones and your teeth, it replaces nutrients within your bones and your teeth with methadone and your teeth and your bones start to become more brittle which makes the detox off methadone worse because your bones literally hurt very badly as the methadone is coming out of the bones and your body is trying fervently to replace that methadone with nutrients. However depending on the severity of the detox symptoms you might not be able to eat anything for a while so the building up of nutrients takes a while unless you go to a detox center. I had perfect teeth when I started the methadone but after just one year I started getting cavities. Now I've been on it for around 4 years and I've had to have three of my molars removed because of the damage methadone has done and I have 11 other "cavities" which my both my dentist & doctor told me was due to the methadone. If it was my son I would find a doctor who would prescribe Suboxone because though Suboxone has a synthetic opiate in it. It also has buprenorphine which does not allow the user to take any other kind of opiate; they won't be able to feel it and they can't OD because the buprenorphine blocks the Inhibitors uptake of other opiates. Like I said if it was my son I would find a doctor and be completely honest with them and get him on Suboxone and then wean him off because it's faster, safer, & easier to wean off the Suboxone than it is to get off the methadone. Good luck. I hope this helps and I'm sorry I didn't come across this sooner. God Bless.
