My wife has panic attacks, and with some financial stress she is really having a breakdown. I've heard horror stories about benzo's and methadone so I want to hear from someone that takes them with methadone to know how safe it is. She takes 65 mil methadone daily, liquid. Anyone?

Yes.....benzos and methadone are vary dangerous Or can be .......I've been on methadone for over 9+ years ! And I've been addicted to them for two years and finally quit after ending up in a mental institution due to withdrawal of this drug .....I was on 200 mg. And at least a bar a day ha bit but sometimes when I got my prescription it would be six sometimes .....I am that I never overdose! I got kicked of for being a liability'! Due to the death toll at our clinic I'm on now ......I don't know I you know mike star from Alice in chains he came here to my clinic and got kicked off due to the new thing they call a benzo proto call .... he DIED a few months later do to these Xanax and methadone! now at the methadone Xanax @ clonopen . Benzos which if you have any benzos including doctor prescribed..they detox you until clean! 5% the first week then 5mg of methadone every 3 days!
Yes you have to make a choice between methadone o benzos ....+23 people have died from this deadly combination .....but its vary hard to quit because the people on methadone and benzos is just th same feeling as doing herion.....and trying to quit Xanax s just as bad as quiting herion but you have hallucinations and that's no joke! I am now on 95 mg of methadone now and I'm still have urges to buy Xanax or see a doctor , but then I take a look. At all of the people/zombies are at the clinic and ....I don't want to be like that!

I've been on 20-40 mg of methadone a day for the last 12 years. I also take 4 mg of ativan a day, or 4 mg of xanax, or clonipin. I've never had any problem or heard of anyone who has.

Another relevant fact to add here is the Buspirone is not a Benzodiazepine. It is actually an Azapirone, so it is a completely different class of anti-anxiety medication.

I have been on methadone for 2 yrs now and I also take a benzo to treat sever anxiety. I am also on the patient advisory board at the methadone clinic I attend and have 6 take homes, meaning I only go to the clinic once a wk and take the rest at my home due to following the rules and being clean from all drugs, unless I am prescribed. It can be safe to take methadone and a benzo, but only if the doctor prescribing the benzo knows you're on methadone. The part that needs to be watched is to make sure your wife does NOT abuse the benzo, take more then needed b/c if that happens, she can have depressed breathing and overdose due to taking both meds & having too much benzo in her system. She needs to start on a small dose of benzo, watch if carefully and if she starts to feel sleeping after a couple of wks, lower her dose of methadone. Only due this if you are sure she won't take more then is prescribed, or if you can hold them and just give her as prescribed. Good luck and please tell your wife how good she is doing getting help for her addiction! It is a very hard journey and having support from your loved ones is very important! Also, don't accuse her of wanting to take more then she should of the benzo, if your not sure just tell her you want to hold the benzo just to be on the safe side b/c you love her and can't afford to lose her.
