I came on this site for the same reason (it seems) everyone else did: to find methadone to be prescribed to me so I don't have to do the daily clinic thing. I don't think any of us are going to have any luck. Everyone has turned to suboxone. The reason I want a prescription to methadone instead of suboxone is the cost. One sub film is $7-8 and are usually prescribed 2-3 a day. A 90 count of 10mg methadone tablets are only $20. If I find any helpful info I will pass it on and would appreciate if you all do the same, but good luck to us all in this matter because it's not going to be easy.

Really!? I don't think you or anyone else should be judging someone without first knowing their personal situation. I myself am a chronic pain patient that depends on methadone to function on a daily basis. Believe me when I say I would much rather not have this daily pain so that I wouldn't need to take any pain medicine. Not everyone that is taking pain meds are doing so for a buzz. Many of us are taking pain meds strictly for relief from pain, so that we can work, take care of our children and household, and to just function and maintain our daily tasks. Like I said before you have no right to judge when you don't know someone's situation and you sure don't have the right to tell someone that they don't have the right to pain relief!

First of all you are the pathetic one people get addicted by taking meds they need. Second methadone does not get you high it helps stablize people that have need addicted to dangerous drugs. And does wonders for people trying to live a new way of life . I can tell your very ignorant for not knowing that addiction is a disease that people ate born with. Addiction is a disease and drugs money work sex or food and ect are the symptoms. Read a book and have yourself a pity party .

I can get to new York. I live in Middletown, about one hour from nyc. I am desperately seeking methadone.. I have called hundreds of numbers. The two local clinics have waiting lists months long. My doctor can't help me! She says I need to get on methadone now. If I can't find a clinic or doctor that can prescribe It I'm going to wind up dead put in jail. I'm at the end of my rope. I have severe pain and was on suboxone for 3 years. Out just stopped working for me. My doctor was giving me 100mcg fentanyl patches and dilaudid. Now she says I need methadone and printed me out s list of doctors and clinics none of which can help. If anyone can help me I will be forever in your debt. I've lost my home and my family my life is next. I need to get on methadone now please help. -t

U mentioned being able to help someone in an 09 post if they could make it to ny a couple times a month. I am in Long Island and need to switch off of the methadone clinic into a private pain management setting or figure something els out it is holding me back I can't tell you how many opportunities I have had to pass up. I tried to detox myself recently but ended up walking back to the clinic with my tail between my legs because the withdrawals were so strong including blood pressure through the roof. I have 8 pins in my right foot and back problems.

I see that your message is from 2009, so I'm guessing it may not be relevant anymore, but I am in the same situation you were in, feel for you and also wonder where you ended up going. I too live in BK (downtown) and desperately need to make the switch from Suboxone (20 mg/day) to Methadone. Before I "cleaned up," I was a chronic pain patient and wildly abusing meds and buying extras. But even the psych and dr at the Coney Island detox I went to felt I would NOT do well on Suboxone and should be on Methadone Maintenance. I've gotten that a lot. My current psych, whom I've been with for years is now Rx'ing the sub. He is in Westchester. It is a hassle but I went through HORRID experiences seeking and maintaining a sub script in the city and was forced to accept unconscionable abuse from providers because it is so damn hard to find another. ESPECIALLY when you are in withdrawls and suffer from extreme depression and anxiety (I was forced to give up my anxiety meds of ten years, which I NEVER abused in a WEEK and was fed that line about the mix causing life threatening seizures. The benzos were still showing up in my pee tests for TWO MONTHS after detox and it became very clear what their real concern is).

I have never felt so defenseless and dangerously anxious as I did while being accused of taking meds that I wasn't and still needed! I felt like an anvil was going to fall out of the sky and became scared to leave my apt. So yeah, I had enough trouble for a lifetime dealing with all that and was and am not always able to be as proactive as I was on oxy and keep searching out better doctors, let alone methadone clinics.

There is definitely not one in walking distance of my apt. And my anxiety that I am going to travel a bit to one and then be treated as the piece of amusing s*** that Coney Island's out-patient staff treated me as , has really got my anxiety coursing. It would also be really nice to not be the only white girl from the suburbs, as has consistently been the case in all the treatment I have sought in NYC. I can and do easily relate to and get along with most everybody, but I will forever have scars from what I went through at places where that was the case bedside the counselors and doctors seem to single me out and exact some bizarre revenge, no matter how sweet and obedient I am. I do not like my medication to be treated like a weapon. And it was. By people who were keenly aware of how badly we suffer before we crawl to them. So, as f***ed up as this may sound, if I have to go to a Methadone Clinic, I prefer it be one where I see myself represented in numbers. Simply to avoid the twisted punishments enacted upon me at my most vulnerable by people in power.

Does that exist in Brooklyn? Should I try Manhattan? Beth Isreal? Does insurance ever cover clinics? I know mine (Oxford) would not cover the excellent full treatment program I had wanted to go to there. I tend to run into this weird subsystem where I am not allowed the free or cheap payment options at places because I have insurance. But my family scrapes together for that because I have so many health problems. I myself am not working and destitute. I do not receive social services yet, tho I have a host of doctors and psychs on-board to help should I take the leap. I also have my accomplished psych and therapist ready to vouch for me as to why methadone is the better choice for me. The new and useless pain management doc didn't agree because I am not 110 and mostly dead. It falls on deaf ears when I relay just how hard it is to function and be "normal." I was top notch when I had new opiate scripts, but my tolerance eventually became that of an elephant and it took over every cell in my brain. I'm surprised I didn't lose my liver or kidneys to the Tylenol alone. I eventually stepped up to H, but either it wasn't that good or I AM an elephant. It made me noddy more than stimulated. And it was through a friend and just one unreliable dealer. I never slammed. He never answered his phone. My friend stabbed me in the back. I -allegedly- nodded in a bagel with lox in front of my entire family and there were severe consequences. My new relationship with bundles fizzled.

I have not touched it since, but had my boyfriend waiting with percs in hand after my hospitalizations. And i have tried and tried to punch through Suboxone with mid level pain killers, but even after six days, that mother was still bound to the receptors. Or does sub raise your tolerance? Either way, it is a kick ass deterant, as most of us give up trying to override it, or never even do that, and it boggles my brain as to WHYYYY it is SO hard to get a sub doc and why it is so psychotically regulated.

Anyway, any guidance from anyone on here is so very welcome. Please don't tell me horror stories about methadone or not to take it and how I am a weak, evil person if I do.....unless you want me to fed ex you my soles. I know what I am dealing with and if one more pain doctor says, "but your so young!!! I'm applying to med school just to put some compassionate non-paranoid health care out there.

Thank you so much and many blessings~*~*

Where in NY are you? I am so sorry to hear that even after an allergic reaction, all that is being offered to you is the same thing that caused it. I went through that with countless doctors re: antidepressants (which are NOT an appropriate solution to PAIN. -even IF they help, the risks and side effects can stick around for life).

It is next to impossible to get a methadone rx from a regular/pain dr once you have declared your addiction [disease]. Mostly because they a) don't want to be liable if we do something stupid and b) because Many of us would never be able to defy neurobiology for a full month, taking only as directed. -i often hit the bottom of the oxycodone bottle by day Two. And 3) there are no in-patient rehabs that allow methadone MAINTENANCE, post acute detox, and my experience with out-patient Group day programs is that you can get ridiculed for closing your eyes for three seconds, or even blinking "too much/too slow," Regardless of the reason. -which is, for MANY, a result of having just gotten out of detox, just been put on Suboxone by THEIR shady doctor (COUGH*Coney Island) and because suddenly, you have to be up and bushy tailed, and not one minute late (!) by 7am. An hour that means little in an unemployed addiction sufferer's life.

That said, I have weeded through and put together a semi-comprehensive note on the local methadone clinics, and have plenty of knowledge and experience with NYC medical and psychological services. I will share any helpful info I can :)

Again, none, AnyWhere, will allow ongoing methadone mnt. And if I am wrong and someone knows of one, anywhere, please post so everyone who can't fight their pain diseases as well as they proactively can their addiction, can still get intensive treatment for the former.

Same goes for those among us who may not have pain, but have CRIPPLING P.A.W.S./Endogenous Endorphin Deficency Syndrome, etc., and quite literally feel they can't slog through Life without their "little helper". And I DON'T mean to get "high." Even if that is what we *think* we are doing, there is something Far more complex at hand--dual diagnosis people's drug of choice is almost always an auto-piolot self-medication to correct neurotransmitters, hormone levels, psychiatric illnesses etc., that are misfiring, unbalanced, or unchecked.

I hope that you are on your way to feeling better and making it through the days with more ease. I am very happy for anyone who has found success with the Right Medications for all underlying needs, but speak from immediate experience when I say that anything "controlled," not just highly scheduled, absolutely does pose a risk for a new addiction. And we will still tell ourselves we are doing what we HAVE to in order to Function, on Any levels, and it isn't our fault the damn DEA won't allow your doctor to raise your dose anymore. So you must do it yourself.

Which can fast-track right bottom of the orange bottle, counting, searches for further ways to abuse/porentiate it, severe weight gain and risky health conditions, rationalization for why we CAN'T turn our freedom in to rehabs, doctor shopping, spending a small weekly fortune, obsession, anxiety, depression, nightmares, inability to function.....,this sound familiar?

A comfortable methadone clinic could absolutely prevent and alleviate all of that. Don't let Anyone who doesn't know what rock bottom feels like, and doesnt know it as bottomless, tell you different.

One Love*
Hannah
