please help! I have been on Metformin since March2010 500mg 3 x daily and I am really not getting on with it....I have perservered and GP offered me Glucophage 750mg twice daly but the pills were so big I couldnt swallow them (never been able to swallow tablets and struggle to swallow metformin) My diabetes came after chemotherapy, I had bowel cancer and
was one of the very lucky ones and had anterior resection and all was successful. Ive also had IBS for 30 years and told after op that I would still have it...great after all that lol....I also have intolerances etc which are very much under control...so Im a real mixed bag!
My Oncologist and Consultant have told me I must change from metformin and I must tell my GP...I would like to know what I can ask for that I could swallow because the GP doesnt seem that interested in spending their budget and I know there are lots of options out there for me......would Metformin ER be better for me? Are the pills normal/average size? Would love some advice on this before I see GP...thank you for your time...

I really think that most of the tablets you're looking at, in those dosages, are all rather large.

Why don't you ask your doctor about using insulin shots?

I know it's not the favored thing, if it can be avoided and is normally a last resort, but if you can't swallow the pills, your diabetes is just going to get out of control and cause a lot of problems, anyway.
