Metformin And Appetite
UpdatedI have been taking Metformin for about 20 years. What I noticed when I begin to take it was my appetite was significantly decreased. I lost about 12 pounds, which was good. The last 5 years I've noticed I have a difficult time eating out because (1) the food taste too salty and (2) the portions are way too big. Whenever there is a lot of food on my plate my appetite goes away. In the past year I can eat a good breakfast and lunch but dinner is too much. My sister has the same appetite suppression issues I have. The only other time I have experienced these same issues is during my first pregnancy prior to onset of diabetes. I had no sense of taste the entire time I was pregnant and subsequently had a hard time gaining weight. Does anyone else have these same or similiar issues with Metformin?

Hello, Brea! How are you?
Is your sister also on Metformin?
If she isn't, then the appetite issue likely isn't related to it.
And as to portions being too big, the thing to do there is to put less on your plate, or order smaller meals when eating out.
And if you're eating healthy at home, then it is normal for food to taste very salty, when you eat out. That also has nothing to do with the medication, it's because they use way more salt than we usually do, at home.
Check with doctor it's dangerous to take any med without your doctor advice.hope all the best for you.
