UpdatedDoes Cymbalta help with hot flashes?

Hi Rebekeh - cymbalta hasn't affected my hot flashes at all - still the same old night sweats & flashes durig the day.
I am going off cymbalta & going back on zoloft which I was on for 4 yrs. as the cymbalta doen't feel like it is helping.
Thank you. i'm just going on Cymbalta for depression but I was hoping it would help with these AWFUL sweats.
Since this is an SSNRI antidepressant and doesn't contain any hormones, it will not help with these.
SSRI's and SNRI's are known for CAUSING hot flashes especially when first beginning them. For most people that effect settles down after a period of time. But on the flip side of that - have also had friends whose docs prescribed AD's to help control the hot flashes of meno. Think it depends alot on the type of AD as well. Do know my own experience is that with beginning or increasing dosage can also cause that effect. I do take Cymbalta - also have had total hysterectomy and take Estrogen. Hope this helps.
Added note - in reply to the message that said that AD's do not contain hormones - that is true, but they can work on the same part of the brain that hormone balance is affected. That is why they can help with some meno symtoms.
Cymbalta is a Selective Seratonin and Norephiphrine Reuptake Inhibitor! That is why I said it does NOT contain hormones, because they don't. This effects those two brain chemicals.
I'm sorry - didn't realize I was going to cause such an exclamatory response. I am not new to the types and effects of both AD's and/or hormones. I am very aware of what Cymbalta is and does. Hormones have a very strong influence on our brain chemicals that is quite similiar to what certain AD's have. That is why sometimes hormones help the brain and sometimes AD's also help some of the hormonal issues. Sometimes both are needed. Now if I've simply gotten off topic here by talking about other than Cymbalta - then my apologies. But thought this also was about menopause. There is proven clincial evidence that both hormone replacement and/or certain antidepressants can help with menopausal symptoms - in particular hot flashes. I'm not here for an argument - just been down a very long road ( close to 20 years) of struggling with depression/anxiety and hormone imbalance. Thought possibly I had something to share that would be of help. Our bodies are complicated in that there are many parts and functions and yet all has to work in some type of unity to have good health. That's not always easy to bring together once illness has occurred and caused major changes in it.
Can anyone help me how to get rid of hot flashes and night sweats ??
