Hi, I was prescribed meloxicam for my tailbone pain. I took one 7.5mg dose and that gave me the worst panic attack. I am not taking it anymore but i still feel very anxious and I am not myself anymore. It has been 5 days since i took the dose. Will this take time to go away? Do I need any other treatments for these side effects? ## It has been known to cause anxiety/panic attacks, in some people that take it, according to FDA reports, but it is very rare. It is also very unusual for it to linger that long after having taken just one dose. Its other side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding, and stomach irritation. Have things improved, yet? I have recently quit taking pain meds that I have taken for the past ten years. I was up to 8 Vicoprofen and 4 Tramadol every day. I was so tired of getting up and felling horrible from the toxins in the opoides that I just don't want to do it anymore. However, now I have to deal with how painful it is without the meds and how tired I am. I shower every morning and try to take a 2 mile walk each day, but I am too tired and sore to keep it up. I was hoping a good NSAID would help me, but am so afraid it will have severe physical affects...possibly non-reversible. The side effects on the bottle are nothing compared to the research I have found on the computer. My doctor diagnosed me with RA October 2011 and prescribed Meloxicam 15mg. I asked for the bloodwork to show my pain doctor and was told by his PA that my bloodwork does not show I have RA. I am in complete shock!!! 1st, why would he do this and 2nd, will taking this for all these years without having RA cause issues? I am having bouts of diarrhea and just had a colonoscopy and an upper GI is scheduled next month. I"m a 70 year old female. Very active. Runner, short triathlons, lift weights and otherwise have a very active (hard working) lifestyle. I have been taking 15mg. Meloxicam tablet on average about two per week for about 6 years. Of course, I"m concerned about the side effects I"ve read about for long term use. I hurt my knee and I just started taking meloxicam. The doctor said to take extra strength Tylenol. I have some Tylenol 3 that I had for my jaw. Can I take it with meloxicam? ## Tylenol 3 contains Codeine, alone with Acetaminophen, according the FDA lists. Thus it would be best not to take it, unless your doctor instructs you to do so. I accidentally took two 15 mg tabs of Meloxicam tonight. I don't feel bad or anything unusual, do I need to go to the E.R.? ## Unless you experience an allergic reaction, or sudden bleeding, that would usually not be something to go to the ER for, according to NIH reports, but it is always best to double check with your doctor to be sure. Dr has put me on Meloxicam for the arthritis in my hands and shoulders, ever sense I have been on it I have had a low grade headache. It seems to work well having reduced the pain in my hands but this headache is something I don't want to live with. Is a headache a common side affect of this drug. I take 7.5 mg. my hands still hurt and are swollen. 2nd day to take them. I scraped glue off a floor for several days and night and my hands and fingers are so swollen and very painful . ## Merry Christmas Joyce, Sorry to hear about the pain in your hands and fingers. Scraping glue off a floor for several days/nights sounds like it would do that to just about anyone though. But I hope you're able to find some level of relief from taking the meloxicam. Based on your description, my guess is that it may be a while before the swelling subsides. However it seems like you're using the right preventative measures w/ a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug to keep it from getting any worse. I ran out of my meloxicam that I take for severe arthritis and degenerative disc disease. Due to being in the process of changing PCPs I am looking for an ITC comparable to the meloxicam or something that might even work better. I am a lot of pain and am having a hard time moving. To further complicate issues I had gastric bypass surgery 9 years ago and am supposed to be limited in taking NSAIDs. I am currently taking 2600mg of Tylenol two to three times a day and roughly 1600mg of Advil with minimal relief. My primary dr said take one 15mg meloxicam a day. Went to the orthropedic dr. and since my pain is unbearable at night, he told me I could take two 15mg meloxicam a day. Who do I believe? ## The usual maximum dose is 15mgs daily, according to FDA reports. What happens if someone takes too much Meloxicam? Like more than 30+ mg. What are the side effects and will they be okay? ## This is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory, so on top of the risk of overdose, taking to much of it could result in stomach ulceration, liver damage, and liver failure, according to the NIH. I have been taking Apo-meloxicam since Tuesday. I have taken 4 pills for inflammation in my lower back and right leg. Am a little concerned as to why the pain is not going away? How long before the pill starts to work? ## Meloxicam is just a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory, so while it can help with some minor pain, fever, and swelling, it will not alleviate pain as well as an opiate would. I'm back on meloxicam after surgery. I've been in lots of pain and I'm tired. I take high BP medicine and also acid reflux medicine and low dose asprin everyday. My doctor presribed 7.5MG of Meloxicam for arthritis. I have had several mini-strokes that affects my speech and I also break out when I take aleve, is this safe to take? ## Hello, Sheryl! How are you doing? I am very sorry about your various health issues. Was it prescribed by your PCP? If so, I'd suggest not taking it, until you check with whatever other doctor you see for your strokes. It can cause blood thinning, according to the FDA, so it may be contraindicated with your other medications. It can also cause elevated blood pressure, as a side effect. It would be best to be cautious.
