Making The Switch From Years Of Fentanyl To Medical Marijuana
UpdatedI came to my doctor and asked if we could try to decrease my fentanyl use (was 100mcg) and use medical marijuana in its place. Im down to 12mcg of fentanyl, and im coping, but the pain is worse. Im really scared when I'm supposed to stop the fentanyl altogether. I've been through the sickness of withdrawl before. An ER doctor didn't check my meds before he ordered Nubain. The nursing immediately counteracts against the fentanyl and i got really sick. I never want to feel that way again. Has anyone here done this successfully?

I could not wait to get off the Fentanyl patches. They made me feel innebriated 24/7 and so my doctor decided due to sensitive issues we will discontinue it. Taper and discontinuation was a mutually agreed to action, it was consensual.
I got pass and over it very quickly because I hated the medication and the side effects. It really is kind mind over matter. If in your gut you dislike Fentanyl patch then you will get through it more easy. Tell yourself Everyday how much you hate it. Remind yourself it is worth trying something else, that requires change.
Change is understandably scary. I wish you the best. I know you can do it. I know you can do it quickly and without complications.
Re: RB (# 1)
Thank you so much for your support. I've fought with using fentanyl for around 20 years. It seriously messes with my depression and anxiety, and I really hate that I'm a target for drug addicts, of which we have an over abundance of where I live.
Hello, ladeekatt! How are you doing? Have you completely stopped the Fentanyl, yet?
The FDA warns that the withdrawal effects of Fentanyl may include nausea, rebound pain, depression, anxiety, headaches, diarrhea, and creates the risk of seizures.
While Marijuana can successfully help many people with pain, I am not sure how much it will help someone that has been on such as heavy opioid for a prolonged period of time. You may also want to try a combination of it, along with a topical CBD cream, and/or an oral formulation.
The only strains that help my pain are those with THC-A or THC-V.
I cannot replace opiates with mmj, but it would certainly help with opiate withdrawals if that’s what you’re asking.
Re: VerFree (# 3)
After sharing my concerns with my doctor, we decided that going from 100mcg down to 12mcg was a huge step. We are continuing the 12mcg for the time being, and have a regimented schedule for my mmj. Interestingly enough, I find that I should've never been on so high a dose to begin with. I am also regularly getting SI joint injections along the the patches and mmj.
I too was on Fentanyl 100 MCG patches for 5 years. I’ve had 4 back surgeries and 2 Neck surgeries and also 3 severe stomach surgeries. My Dr. helped Me taper down over a few Months and I had NO withdrawal.
After being on Fentanyl 100 MCG for 5 years My Dr. gradually tapered Me off of them and ALL pain Meds. I chose to use Marijuana instead of more opioids and have a legal Medical Card to cover that. Medical History: 4 back surgeries (one of them was a fusion that left Me with steel in My back.), 2 Neck surgeries, and 3 very severe abdominal surgeries. Also a knee replacement.
