I have been taking lyrica for 7 weeks now for severe nerve pain. I began to gain a lot of weight immediately but because the drug is so effective at relieving my pain, I was very reluctant to come off it. Three weeks ago I began the 5:2 diet - eating 500 calories on 2 non-consecutive days each week and normally for the rest of the week - ('The 5:2 Vegetarian Diet Made eZy' by Polly Fielding and `The 5:2 Diet: Single Serving Vegetarian Recipes' by Belinda Price are books I bought to help me). I was amazed at how easily the pounds dropped off after only a couple weeks. I am on 150 mg twice daily. I do hope this helps someone with the same worries I had about the side effect of weight gain whilst taking lyrica . ## Yes I agree, I too was able to control my weight while on Lyric...

I have been on Lyrica for about 3 weeks now for neuropathic pain. I am an MS patient and the Lyrica is helping. I have had side effects of weight gain and sleepiness. I may have to increase my dosage because I am still having a little pain. Can anyone tell me how long the side effects last and does increased dosages ease your pain more. ## It is hard to say how long the side effects will last, it can vary from person to person, it can also vary according to your dosage and your drug tolerance, for most people it ranges anywhere from 2 weeks to a month. Whether or not a higher dosage will relieve your pain more is another thing that no one can say for sure. Some people get great results from these types of meds and some don't. You will just have to try it and see what happens, and fo...

Recently Lyrica has been added to my pain management program. I purchased the drug, but haven't yet began taking it as I am concerned with the side effects listed. Does anyone have recent information about the side effects? ## Hello, Susie! How are you? All medications carry the risk of causing side effects. However, what specifically are you concerned about? I'll gladly provide you with more information, if I can. You also need to remember that not everyone experiences all the side effects of a medication. ## Thanks Verwon, I don't like the thought of any drug that causes fatigue. I have fibromyalgia along with several other pain problems, fatigue is one of the major battles I fight daily. If Lyrica helps with fibromyalgia pain more than it fatigues, it would be worth it. S...

Does anyone here have chronic muscle ache/pain, especially in legs? And have taken Lyrica for that pain? ## Lyrica will only help with some types of nerve pain. It is an anticonvulsant that works on the synapses and neural pathways in the brain. Thus, it really depends on what is causing such pain. If it is due to some muscular condition and not nerve damage, then it may not help. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, mood swings and weight gain. Did your doctor prescribe this? ## Yes, was given samples to try but had to stop using b/c of side effects, i.e. dizzy, nerves. ## Yes

I'm suffering from severe spinal cord injury 15 years ago been through a lot of pain regiments considering taking lyrica not sure what it's like her anything would just like to know what people think if they've got the same problem I do with her back thanks Steve ## Hello, Steve! How are you? I am very sorry about your injury! Lyrica is actually an anticonvulsant that can help with some types of never pain, due to the way it acts on the synapses in the brain. Thus, it doesn't work like a traditional analgesic, you will not get immediate relief, you have to take it for about 4 weeks, before you'll know whether or not it will work to help you. Its side effects may include nausea, dizziness, mood swings and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?

If lyrica is affecting nerve pain and maybe even destroying the nerves slowly what is it doing to our brains? ## Hello, Mary! How are you? It doesn't destroy nerves. Where did you hear that? It works by affecting the synapses in the brain that respond to pain signals, it prevents them from reacting and overreacting to stimuli. It is actually an anticonvulsant that was later found to help with mood disorders and nerve pain. Its side effects may include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and weight changes. Are there any other questions or concerns?

white black stripe ## The word phzer appears to be a misspelling of the pharmaceutical company pfizer. They manufacture a number of different medications. Based on your description of a white pill with a black stripe, the closest match which I found was a white capsule with Pfizer PGN 50 on it, and a black stripe. You can view an image here. If this is what you have then it is Lyrica 50 mg which is an anticonvulsant drug. You can read more about this medication at: If this is not the pill which you have then please respond with more details about the marking(s). Do you have any other questions or information to add? Please post back if you do... ## Phzer is a company that makes 25 mg and 50 mg viagra in Bosnia

I am a 40 yr old who has been on lyrica for 4 years now. I was in a car accident and due to nerve damage along my spine was put on Lyrica after surgery. I have tried to come off of it before but after day 5 i felt like i was in hell I could not stand anything touching me not even clothes i felt like I was on fire so i caved in and starting taking it again I could not stand the pain any longer. I have memory loss, live in a fog, gained alot of weight, sleep walk. I can't think clear there are times I have speech issues like I can't say what I'm trying to and have to stop slow down and try again. Due to new health issues I have chose to come off lyrica because I can't tell where I am hurting and by all rights should be able to because of physical symptoms. My Dr. has told ...

I started taking Lyrica 7 years ago for nerve pain due to adhesions following tummy tuck. Lyrica worked better for me than Gabapentin and was the answer to my prayers. Since then I have gained a lot of weight though I didn't link it with the Lyrica until starting to read around it now. I have arranged to have a gastric bypass in 2 weeks but now wonder whether, if I could get myself off the Lyrica, the weight disappear too. Another related question - the one I originally came onto the forum to ask - is about what will happen after the bypass when I think the Lyrica will not work any more because it won't get digested normally? Very confused now. Any advice welcomed. ## Hello, Robes! How are you? Yes, there is a chance that the weight gain is due to the Lyrica. These medications a...

I'm an esrd patient, on the waiting list for a kidney transplant. I was just prescribed lyrica for multiple pain sites. I've been reading, and am concerned about my future kidney function. Also my mother has Immacular holes in her eyes, they told her that's past two me. I already wear glasses. And I don't like the addictive side, I was taking oxycodone 15mg 3-4 daily. But was told they could kill me, because they build up in the kidneys. I like how they worked on my pain. But feeling scared to try lyrica ## Hello, TN Rog! How are you? It has been known to cause kidney stones in some people, which could be dangerous for you, if you already have impaired kidney function. And yes, it can also cause ocular damage, though it isn't common. Have you discussed your concerns ...

I have taken Neurontin at 800mg at 4 times a day for eight years. Also taken Lyrica at 200mg 4 times a day.It helps with pain and neasuea, before i eat and after i eat and it kills the effect of the medicine. So I have to take more than prescribed. So does any body else have this problem. Are any sugestions? I have talked to my doctors about this. They don't listen. They also didn't listen to me about it being adictive. I was right about that. So if anyone can help or tell me how to get help please, please write me back. Thank you. ## The reason they do not see these as being addictive is because they are not actually pain medications, they are not narcotics, so they don't carry the same side effects and addiction as narcotic opiates do. What you experience though, when you ta...

My husband was diagnosed with diabetes 10/8/13. He probably has had it for 3 yr. He's is on 750 Metformin 2 a day, 600mg Gabapentin 3 aday. Still in much pain.He also weights 116, has lost 100lbs. in two years Just got prescribed Lyrica 50mg. 3 a day. Lyrica is very expensive. JUST WONDERING IF IT WILL HELP. Any comments welcome. ## Hello, Cheryl! How are you? Unfortunately, no one can tell you whether or not it will help him, the only way to know that is by his actually taking it to find out how it works for him. There should be a cheaper generic available, though. And it may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, weight changes and mood swings. Is there anything else I can help with?

I've been taking Lyrica for 7 years for residual pain resulting from 2 spinal operations. The pain has diminished and I want to stop taking Lyrica. I've tapered down from 75 mg a day to 25 mg a day, but when I try to stop entirely I feel very dizzy and feel that I will black-out. I've tried to taper off very slowly, but I can't tolerate missing even one dose. ## Hi Carrie, Sorry to hear about your trouble with Lyrica. Your certainly not alone, as there are many others here in the forums dealing with this mess of a drug. The best approach I can recommend trying, is to take a fraction of the 25mg tablet (actually cut into pieces), and then work your way down from there over the course of several weeks. If you're open to trying it, might I suggest using medical marijuan...

I've been taking 600mg of Lyrica for ten years, I have had no problems with it. It helps with the burning. ## Hi Sue, With all the diverse opinions surrounding the safety of Lyrica, it's great to hear that you're still doing well on it after 10 years. If you don't mind me asking, what exactly are you taking it for that has to do with burning? From what I've read, the maximum "recommended" dose is listed at 100mgs three times daily (or 300mgs). It doesn't say you can't take a higher dose (they just don't recommend it unless your doctor draws that conclusion based on your individual response and how well you tolerate it). Apparently though, 600mgs was studied in clinical trials and had ended up showing no significant benefits from the dosage increas...

I have been taking 50mg for 3 months aqo have had headache, dizziness, naussa and no energy .I gained 12lbs in this time. Now the doctor is taking me off as I asked to. He said I should just go cold turkey. Is this true? If now what do I o. ## Hello, Honey! How are you? That's a low dose and you haven't been on it for very long, so there shouldn't be any serious issues with stopping it, as long as your doctor said that it's okay to do so. If you do run into any issues, please be sure to contact them immediately. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Hi honey... I need to Respectfully disagree with Verwon's reply. Three months on that dosage is enough to cause issues with possible seizures along with other problems. It may not, but I had a similar situation where ...

Have your potassium levels been checked? A low potassium level has also been known to cause night time leg cramps, so the solution could be as simple as taking a low dose supplement, or increasing your dietary intake of Potassium. I suffered from them for many years, as well, until it was discovered that my potassium levels were very low. ## Hi ingebroesel, After 7 years of searching for a dx (without insurance and I was desparate), a research physician diagnosed me with "genetic ...

I was put on Lyrics for chronic pain. Starting dose 50 mg at bedtime. If tolerated add 50 mg in morning. I got to the 50 x 2 per day and started getting itchy blisters on the palms of my hands. Anyone else with this type of reaction? ## Hi Lee, Based on my research, hives/blisters are a side effect of Lyrica. It is possible that your body is just having a reaction to the higher dose you are taking. Have you spoken with your doctor about this? You can learn more about this drug on the page for Lyrica Details ## I took 1 dose of lyrica and I had a similar reaction but then the skin on my hands started to get hard and the skin came off and also on my feet. Exfoliative dermatitis. Before this happened it felt like my hands were pounding and I also started to lose feeling in them. Now I...

my dr prescribed this for a disgenative disk and fibromyalgia constant back pain and always tired very fatigued all the time.. to where some days I feel like no one understands.. very frusterated I heard a big side effect is weight gain? lirica ## Hello, Deanna! How are you? Lyrica is an anticonvulsant that has also been proven effective at treating certain types of nerve pain and as a mood stabilizer. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, blurred vision and yes, weight gain… but not everyone experiences these side effects. The only thing you can really do is try it and find out how it affects you. Is there anything else I can help with?

Hello, doc prescribed me lyrica 150 mg for burning, tingling and aching on my foot which started after a sprain ankle that happened 4,5 months ago. I didn't want to use it because of the serious side effects described, but I've been using it for a week now. To reduce side effect risk, I stopped taking my NSAID drug (acemetasin, voltaren (diklofenak sodium), Cycladol (Piroxicam), etodolac etc. My pain and burning sensation didn't lessen much and my foot swells sometimes. My question is if I can take NSAID drugs safely with Lyrica and which one is best to use in my condition? It's been almost 5 months and I've been taking NSAIDs most of this time. I used to take cipralex (essitalopram) as antidepressant but stopped taking it with Lyrica, since both effect the nervous syst
