A friend of mine has been using Lyrica in order to get a 'high'. Normally, he takes doses of 600-1000mg in one go, about once a week on weekends. He has no history of fibromyalgia or nerve damage or backpain: he is perfectly healthy. What are the dangers associated with non-prescribed consumption of Lyrica? What are the long-term side effects on health? What are the risks involved? He is a 29 yr old male. ## Lyrica is not a regular pain medication, so it will not get him high, though he may experience some dizziness, drowsiness and sedation as side effects, especially at such a high dosage, which may make him think he's getting high. Lyrica contains the active ingredient Pregabalin, it is an anticonvulsant that is also proven effective at treating certain types of nerve pain...

I am not sure if the combination of pills are good. Thank you

My doctor prescribed Lyrica for pain I was having from a back issue, and after one day on this drug my hands, wrists, elbows, knees, ankles and feet were so swollen I could not function. I couldn't even cut my food or walk more than a few steps. Both my wife and I thought I wouldn't live out the month. After being seen by several doctors I was told I was having an acute auto immune response and was put on prednisone. After two months now the swelling is improving and the dosage of steroids is going down, but I still take them or the inflammation returns. This is the first time in my life I have had any bad reaction to any drug. I regret having taken this and hope this condition isn't permanent. ## Jason, Oh my goodness!! I can't do Lyrica either, and I am lucky that I di...

My doctor's game plan is to bring me up very slowly, 25 mg/day for maybe 3 days, then 25 two times a day for a couple of weeks, and over a very long period of time up to 150 because I was very sensitive to my first dose of 50 mg. I was beyond tired and felt very sedated - kind of like being drunk or whatever. never would have been able to drive in that condition. ## Hello, Susan! How are you? That is with these types of medications, especially if someone is sensitive to the side effects. It's even commonly done when someone is taking them to control seizures. Common side effects may include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, mood swings and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have been taking lyrica for a 3 months now and I really want off. I have recently been having trouble with my blood pressure. It caused chest pains, shortness of breath, increased bp when getting up and walking. Been in the hospital twice now from the chest pains and my blood and ekg are fine. Seeing a cardiologist who says it it vasculitis. Someone help because I feel like I am being passed between specialists. I have MCTD and many problems with it. I am very nervous and my gut tells me that it is the Lyrica that has been the cause of my vasculitis. ## Hello, Bonnie! How are you? I am very sorry about the problems that you're having. Have you discussed it with your doctor? They should be able to help you taper off of the Lyrica to see whether or not it's contributing to your ...

I've got to take the above meds and I'm contemplating as they lead to weight gain. I've always been very active but due to my condition at the moment I'm unable. Weight gain at this stage is something that will push me over the edge. Please is there something that I can take to counter act as I need all of them but will rather just live with pain the need for the toilet instead of gaining weight.lucy ## Hello, Lulu! How are you doing? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. The weight gain is most likely due to the Lyrica, it is an anticonvulsant that can also help with certain types of nerve pain and this class of medications is well known to cause weight gain. Have you spoken to your doctor? There may be a different medication you can try to see if it d...

I was put on Lyrica for fibromyalgia pain and after about a week of starting, I developed seizures, was in a coma for 6 days, and almost died. Anyone else have similar experience? ## Hello, Sandy! How are you? Lyrica is actually an anticonvulsant, so it would be more likely to do that if you missed a dose, after taking it for awhile. There is also a chance that your seizure was unrelated to the medication. What did the doctors say caused it?

Hi my mom is on 75 mg of lyrica and she can not refill her script for a few days, ny mother in law gave me an old prescription which her late husband took. they are the same 75mg Lyrica but they are 6 years old! will it hurt my mother to take these? I know that some old medications can acually poison your system. Please let me know. ## Hello, Mandi! How are you? They will no longer be effective and should you should just dispose of them. Lyrica is not a narcotic or controlled substance, so she should be able to get a refill a few days early, without a problem. Side effects to this medication may include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, mood swings and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?

I took 75 mg of Lyrica twice a day for 3 days. I am having side effects so I stopped taking it. When will it be outvof my system ? ## What kind of side effect do you have? I took it for 4 days only and stopped it because I started feeling numbness in my legs and arms. Since then, I have had many side effects such as nausea, diarhea, problems sleeping, short of breath, fatigue, general feeling of being sick but the most strong and most annoying in my case was the numbness in my legs and arms. Its been 7 weeks that I have stopped it and I can feel that the side effects are almost gone. It has been hell for me! ## Mini, thank you for responding to my question.I'm sorry for what you are going through. Is the vision loss permanent? I've been off Lyrica for almost 2 months n my vision hasn't gotten better. ## Hello, Pamela! How are you? After 2 months, with no improvement, it is time to have things checked out by an ophthalmologist. There is a chance that you may have something else going on that was unrelated to the Lyrica, or perhaps it caused some permanent damage. How long were you on it and what was the dosage?

I SUFFER FROM CHRONIC CONSTIPATION AFTER A DIVERTICULITIS OPERATION. I NEED TO TAKE PAINKILLERS FOR A BAD DISC CONDITION IN MY LOWER SPINE - SUCH AS LARIKA OR EPLEPTIN OR OTHER. WHICH IS THE BEST TO TAKE THAT WILL NOT MAKE ME DROWSY NEITHER MUST IT AGGRAVATE MY STOMACH - pLEASE HELP? ## Hello, Hans! How are you? Unfortunately, those side effects may occur with pretty much any of them. The only thing you can really do is try different ones and see which causes you the least amount of problems, while alleviating your pain. You may want to start with something like the Lyrica to see how well it works for you, since it's not known to cause as many side effects as some other choices. It's most common can include dizziness, drowsiness and weight changes. Are there any other questions ...

A couple weeks ago I Googled Law suits against mfg of Lyrica, Mfg. Pfizer and found two law firms who has or is going to file a class action suit. I need to find it again. I have been taking Lyrica for more than three years, then was on their cheaper Gabapenten which did not seem to work as well to manage my peripheral neuropathy pain, and went back to Lyrica for another four years.. That stated when I took Levostatin, Mevacor made by Merck. Another law firm has a class action law suit claims against the mfg. I have problems with my memory, feel often dizzy, vision blurry at times (comes and goes) but had lenses implanted due to cataracts (another scam as there was little difference after surgery). Anyway last Winter I called my Pharmacist at KMart and my internist if the Lyrica could c...
