Lyrica Tox Screens

I have been taking Lyrica, 2 50mg twice a day. I have been on Lyrica for 5+ years. In addition I take 1 200mg slow release Tramadol. I take these meds for Fibromyalgia. My symptoms have been very well managed.

In mid June, I saw my rheumatologist for a new script, as is required by law. This time a urine tox screen was required before a new script could be issued. I ran into problem after problem. First lab could not do the tox screen. Second lab took the urine, but then had no record that I was ever there. Then a failure on the part of the doc's office to make me aware the lab was missing, and would have to return for another specimen. The 4th of July set everything back even more. The sample had to be sent out to an outside lab for processing. AND would take 7 days. YADA YADA

So I have been without meds for the most part of the last 2 weeks. I did find an old script I had for Tramadol - 50 mg every 6 hours, and have taken several of those. 2 days ago I found 8 Lyrica capsules, and started taking one at bedtime. I don't know when I will be getting a new prescription for these meds, so am trying to stretch them out as much as possible.

I have stopped in the office two times, written messages on My Chart to doctor, LPN, PA. I have called the office and asked specifically for the doctor to call me. The LPN is the only contact I have had.

I have always liked my doctor until this experience.

The LPN at the office says there is nothing that can be done. I am a 72 year old woman, and have had to go through withdrawal from TWO meds at the same time. I have experienced many symptoms as a result: Nausea, pain, sleeplessness, anxiety, depress, crying. My family, and friends in the medical profession are shocked that this could have happened to me, and there has not been one phone call from the doctors office to check on my well-being. It has been hard mentally, physically, and emotionally.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is this the law now? Are there no extenuating circumstances? Is it ethically moral? Should I have done something differently? Where did I go wrong?

I'm reevaluating this entire protocol. Do I want to continue to withdrawal from these meds completely? Try and find different meds? Not take any meds? Do I want to go to a new doctor? Can I log a protest? What would you do? Can anyone relate to my frustration?
