Lyrica Lawsuit (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Updated

Does anyone know if there is an ongoing lawsuit against the company who puts out Lyrica? I am a mess from it. Do we have a leg to stand on when it comes to the side effects they found out from people like us? I am a long termer. I have been taking 900 mg since 2005. Is there anyone representing us? Thank you

So Lyrica and Neurontin are very close to the same but Lyrica (Pregabalin) is just a more powerful and expensive version of the 2. So I started Lyrica about 10 years ago and took a low dose here and there daily. So over the last 3 years my pain issues have increased therefor I am on a steady dose 150mg 2 times daily. Well for lack of a better way to put it...I'm screwed royally. I can't get off of the crap to save my life! The withdrawals are HORRID. I would have NEVER started a drug that I would become decent on and/or addicted to. I lost a job because I ran out of Lyrica and didn't call them in on time and had to wait 3 days for my refill! I was deathly ill at work and I left my job and left all of my coworkers in a really bad spot!! So I felt so awful about that I never returned! 2 years ago I went INPATIENT for a couple of weeks and couldn't handle the withdrawals. I mean this was with them loading me up on detox drugs that make you comfortable in a situation like that! So yea.. It was a living hell. The Drs and all other staff had NEVER heard one thing about Lyrica being addictive and they just put me back on it and sent me home almost 3 weeks into this. So I have nowhere to turn. I feel hopeless. I don't even want to be without the stuff. It helps my pain, my anxiety, my depression! It makes me feel normal. If I miss one dose the withdrawals kick in. 50% of the time I don't remember to take my afternoon dose until I almost puked from the intense stomach issues! So what the heck can I do! I need some relief. I AM SO FRICKIN MAD THAT I wasn't told or educated about this. I AM SO SORRY ABOUT YOUR husband. I would definitely demand some answers! I am going to list the problems and side effects that I experience.

Water retention (swelling in ankles, hand, face)
Weight gain
Blurry vision (bad)
Withdrawals if I miss a dose
Horrible pin prickly sensations
Thrashing when I am trying to sleep to get away from the weird ache and sensation in my hand, feet and legs. I have to shake my arms and legs violently to escape the feeling
Nausea
Vomiting
Anxiety
Depression
Heart palpitations
Weakness
Fatigue coupled with Insomnia (that's a lot of fun!)
Feelings of something crawling on me (tickling sensations)
Pain
Involuntary kerning of hands
on and on............but these are the unbearable ones

HELP! I MEAN, WHERE CAN I TURN? Like I said...the drs, pharmacists and all medical staff know absolutely nothing about this!

I totally understand the embarrassing part. While I was taking Lyrica, My Mom had broken her back and had come out to Live with me so I could take care of her. Between that and all her other health problems I was taking her to the Dr's several times a week. It would be so emb
barrassing to be in talking to the Dr trying to explain something and I couldn't get the words out properly. It made me feel like an idiot. Also I don't know about anyone else, but when I am writing or typing. I am always getting my letters mixed up, contantly having to erase, scratch out or go back and retype. The worst was the suicide attempt. I took over 300 pills without hestitation and that wasn't something I would've done and only by the grace of God am I still here. I don't understand why they can't do something about this drug to either correct the problem or take it off the market. Has anyone found an attorney to represent them in a lawsuit against this medication?

that is a great way to describe it Miranda. I fear that it has irreversable damage when it comes to your brain. I have been off of it for over 2 years now and as you can see from my previous posts, I still have problems. I didn't have seisures per say, but I remember sitting in my Dr's office and she thought I had had a stroke, so she ordered a whole battery of tests. I think you need to see a Dr. because you need to find a way to totally stop taking Lyrica before it causes any more damage. Good luck sweetie, keep us posted.

I too have taken lyrica and have suffered with the side effects. problems with my eyes, thoughts of suicide, weight gain, problems putting thoughts together. Now i have been told I have Lymphedema! it seems to be never ending. Please check out the above web site. it contains lots of information on lawsuits and lyrica. Slowly taking myself off of this drug has been the best thing i could have ever done. Better health to all of you.

WOW - I have been thinking that I was one of the lucky ones - I knew that many suffered awful side affects from Lyrica (I had checked when prescribed it for Fibro here in Australia) but was relieved that I seemed to get the benefits but no side affects - at least no weight gain and suicidal depression - and I cant blame a foggy brain on Lyrica as I already got that with Fibro Fog - tho perhaps Lyrica was making it worse? But the eye sight thing - now that is scary cause I know my eye sight has deteriorated since Ive been on Lyrica but I thought it was the Fibro! Given filling a script costs over $100 here in Aust.as it isnt covered for Fibro and now I have a 24/7 pain patch which is helping a lot - I think I will risk giving it up now tho have been on it for well over a year - tho very low dose only 75mg 1-2 daily! Whew will cease completely now. Thanks

Lets try to keep each other posted as we all research the posibilty of going after this drug company, I know for a fact that half of the side affects we all seem to be experincing were not listed when the drug hit the market. I beleieve I might have been put on it pretty much as soon as it was released. I do fear of the affects of the drug which might not be reversible. I will be speaking with my nerologist next month and express my concerns. Just wonder how many of us are out there. thanks for all your info and maybe one day some lawyer will take on our case, please post if anyone finds a representative for us as will I

Nick, it's dreadful your son was prescribed lyrica at 16. The doctors here are reluctant to prescribe even the standard antidepressants that have been around for decades for one so young. At 16, the brain still has nearly 10 years of development before it reaches it's fully developed adult form; and since lyrica works by blocking new neurons from developing, God only knows what harm it could do during this stage. And the dosage was completely over-the-top. My doctor said if I needed to, I could take 2 of the 75mg tablets, but that he would not be happy for me to go any higher than that. You and your son continue to have my heartfelt empathy - and I still encourage you not to give up. The brain is more plastic than once thought, and will take a lot of hard work, but I believe your son can improve over the coming years. I wish there was more I could say to assist you. :(

Statute of limitations is 3 years, unless they find evidence of a cover up...that the company knew and did nothing to warn patients. Then no limit. And WE KNOW there has been a cover up.

Hi victim , another side effect my Son had while on lyrica was that his hair was falling out by the handful and he was only 17 years of age at the time , thankfully this stopped when the Lyica was stopped but Lyrica also triggered a very severe anxiety disorder that he still has more than five years after stopping Lyrica ....

I used Medical Marijuana to get off of lyrica. The cost was was a lot but my health is much better in alot of ways. I don't recommend coming off of it that way. I feel that I will always have lasting effects from lyrica but the MFG and the Doctor that put me on it will never get any more of my time or money ever again.

Lyrica kills the neurons and prevents the synapses from communicating with each other, permanently and that is not on as a side effect. Even when you are off Lyrica nothing really changes except maybe outwardly. Your brain is just about fried. I've been off it 10 years and still have memory issues. I lost my job of 29 years because of Lyrica and they told me that was why I was being left go, along with some other older nurses. You'd think a hospital would be sympathetic, but guess again, they are a business honey and if there is a nursing school or a school for most of their medical procedures, guess what, they have a source of cheap labor ready every May and June when students graduate and they can keep on going each year health insurance with sky high premiums and lousy coverage. So, if you are on Lyrica, my heart goes out to you and all my prayers. Nothing will ever get this drug off the market until phyzer gets their money back with a profit or of the rate of deaths from this drug finally causes the government to take action.

It does kill. My daughter went crazy in a very short time. While trying to save her, the police had to shoot her. She pointed a gun at a police officer.

It's been 6 months since I stopped lyrica. And my short term and working memory are still shot. I mean forgetting what I was doing, saying or did 15 seconds ago. Memory consolidation is blown except more MAJOR events. Details are foggy. I used to love to read and write at a postgraduate academic level. Now I have to read a page of text 2-3 times to retain basic details. I record conversation straight, have piles of lists.

I think the level of cognitive effects while on lyrica and after termination has some connection to a predisposed condition. I'm not necessarily referring to mental illness or any form of IQ... IQ being a ridiculous attempt to summarize a person's "ability" into a single value when ability is actually qualifiable, not quantifiable which is too static a measurement,, within many exclusive areas of functionality. I don't know.. Maybe susceptibility to anxious or depressive emotions. Or the level of or stability of a person's acceptance of their disability. Chronic pain is a disability otherwise why would we be trying to treat it. Remember, disability is determined in the unmitigated state. Meaning when the condition is untreated or not accommodated for. A person's level of acceptance of a disability does have interpersonal, intrapersonal, physical and psychological effects.

I'm not refocusing blame for the side effects and long term damage to the patient. I just trying to figure out "why me".

A major problem with pursuing damages for the damage this poison had on a person is the ability to show, quantify, post-treatment "ability" when compared to a predetermined pre-treatment 'ability'. Attorney or Doctor: "You say using lyrica for pain significantly decreased your executive processing and memory. Prove it. Quantifiably, at what levels were your executive functioning and memory at BEFORE you started taking Lyrica?"

Its much easier to rule out any form of mental illness history within a large population of people who have performed a measurable behavior, such as Suicide.

I'm pushing my doctor for neurological studies of my brain and endocrine system (most managed by some form of pituitary response). But they won't. And damage or physical deficits can be the basis of comparison of behavior based on other studies of that area of the brain in regards to other conditions, 'abilities', or pure exploration.

It's BS. A year ago I was on my way to getting a Masters degree. I'll probably end up training dogs if I can learn to retain enough for my studies. But then again, that may that may be depression talking as I continue to discover ways this drug took my life away.

Mary r Ziegler: From a neuroscience perspective, it's a bit more complex and a bit less "severe". If lyrica was as much of a neurotoxin, killing neurons, as you say, it's effects on the brain would be much easier to identify and measure. Science is still in more of a theoretical state when it comes to the actual functionality of memory generation, psychological attentiveness, etc. If we knew, Dementia, ADHD, amnesia, information retention and much more would be better understood and treatable from more than a "this drug works but we don't know how" position. Sure, it's effecting neurotransmitters, but not a way the medical field can measure or observe. If we could, there are a great many drugs, like ambient and many benzos, that would be off the market. But its FAR to expensive to prove.

The issue with lyrica is that its rather hard to prove any side effects are directly associated with taking the drug. Except when there's a strong relationship between lyrica and suicide attempts, deaths, or ideation. No doctor or pharma company wants association with death. Messed up brains are invisible and society couldn't care less. From personal experience and study.

Re: Jackie (# 1439) Expand Referenced Message

I have been suffering for rt around 12 yrs from Lyrica and I only took it for a month. It damaged my back to the point where I had to have major surgery. Ruined my teeth, memory loss, searching for words all the time while talking to people. My feet still swell, and I got pulled over and charged with a DWI and went to jail. Tried suicide and still think about it. I've been searching for an Attorney for years to no avail. Contact me if you have an attorney please.

Re: Sondre (# 1448) Expand Referenced Message

I was hallucinating and thought my body was shifting, woke up with the sweats, heart racing 127, blood pressure shot up to 147 over 155, panic attacks, headaches and passing out. I had every side effect that was posted on the paper that the pharmacist had given me. I looked at the side effects and I had them all, everyone of them. I even felt myself stop breathing. No one had to tell me to stop taking them, I stopped myself. I was given cymbalta and it did the same thing. Never will I take any of them again. I was scared to take any medicine after that.

Took Lyrica during 9 months of 2009. It did cease the tremendous pain that had literally paralyzed my neck, upper back & right arm so bad I couldn't life my arm to even type. I lost my great job to this drug. I couldn't see the forest for the trees effect. My eye sight went bad, dizzy, vertigo, shakiness, agitated, weight gain, major hair loss, confusion, crazy thoughts, decreased intelligence, etc. My co-worker used it against me causing me to get Fired after 9 yrs. on the job. Was going to sue my company...because she thought I had lost my mind. Anyway, went off the drug and feel there is some permanant damage in my eyesight after one year of being off of it. I have read so much damage this drug has done to people. What does it take?? I feel like I will never get past the year I was on this drug, I lost so much of my life in 2008 and 2 years later am still suffering from the use of this drug. I don't take anything now except effexor and life with occassional pain in my right arm and fingers. Looking back now I am sure I would have tried suicide if I had been on this drug any longer than I was. I even told my doctor about all the side effects and she just increased the doseage! Finally, my husband (after I lost my job) took me to her and demanded she do something because he felt like he was loosing me. She said well, just stop taking it and I did. Took me about 3 months just to get my thoughts together to find another job. Now, after almost 2 years, I definitely have side effects that have not gone away. My eyesight is terrible and I used to have 20/20. I have contacted an attorney here in Oklahoma City who basically blew me off because he said after the Phen Phen episodes there would be no way to sue a drug company or the FDA that they are all protected by the fine print on the warnings of the side effects. By the way, my hair did grow back and I am thankful for that!

Since my injury in 05 I have been on Lyrica and I did end up losing all of my teeth and had to have 1000S of dental work done. I didnt even consider Lyrica being a culprit but how do any of us know what will happen to us unless we discuss like this. I am still taking Lyrica because I have severe nerve damange that withouy it I would haave no use, or unbearable pain to the left side of my body. I just worry reading all you guys comments what will we bre left with. Will it inventionally take our minds compleyely. I too as stated that the confusion and the way I have no thought process to even put a sentence together. I noticed that right away, and just find myself not going places because of the embarrassment. Its there in your mind, your thoughts but just wont come out and when they do, its a jumbled mess making little sense. So i gained 90 pds, memory loss, confusion, teeth loss,
