Lyrica Lawsuit (Page 31) (Top voted first)

Updated

Does anyone know if there is an ongoing lawsuit against the company who puts out Lyrica? I am a mess from it. Do we have a leg to stand on when it comes to the side effects they found out from people like us? I am a long termer. I have been taking 900 mg since 2005. Is there anyone representing us? Thank you

Fiona- Thank you for sharing the cause of your fibromyalgia. Not everyone on this forum has fibro though. Doctors are prescribing Lyrica for everything from headaches to post sugical pain. If you read back posts, some have to take pills in order to keep working, or they would lose their insurance. The choice between experiencing crushing pain every moment or trying a medicine that makes you forgetful, tired, crabby, etc. is NEVER an easy choice. Not to mention the doctors do not know of and/or believe in the worst side effects despite evidence documented on several sites. I also have fibro and I am a vegetarian, and rarely consume sugars, food coloring, corn syrup, juices, dairy, etc. I have tried for 21 years to find a natural solution - dietary changes, energy work, acupuncture, IV fluids & soooo many more. Only recently I found a naturopath who has been helping me. So while I respect your experience & success, I do not believe that there is only 1 cause for fibro. I'm trying to say this gently because your experience may really resonate with some people. In future posts, try to word your beliefs so your attitudes & predjudice (about people not trying anything other than pills) don't come through so strongly. That will turn people away, when your information could be very helpful to some. I'm so happy that you have found something that works for you!

I had amnesia for 5 days on Lyrica. It took that long to get off the drug. I have some residual memory loss and I am loosing a teaching job over it. I use Marinol now because I'm in NV. It helps with pain. No real side effects except a little sleepy. Lyrica is a bad drug!

I'm on 450mg of Lyrica for severe nerve pain & fibromyalgia. I've tried several times to reduce the dosage with my doctors help & have even switched to Neurontin twice but that did nothing for my pain. I'm on a 50 Fentanyl patch & take cymbalta. I honestly don't know what to do. I've talked to my psychiatrist about getting tested for alzheimers because my memory has become so horrible. I have trouble remembering how to spell simple words or add numbers. It's terribly embarrassing. I feel so stupid. Sometimes I think my grandson thinks I'm an idiot & that hurts more than anything because I never used to be this way. My balance is "off" many times & my hands voluntarily jerk when I'm holding a book trying to read. I'm only 58 so it's not old age. After reading these other responses it makes me feel that I'm not alone, thank God, but I still don't know what to do. I don't know if I'm strong enough to handle the pain without the pills, but I'm scared to death that these side effects will only get worse. I too wish there was a way to sue this damn drug company.

It bears repeating, for those new posters who have not yet had a chance to read far enough back in the posts, there is a Facebook group called Lyrica Survivors, started by one of the posters here (forgive me for forgetting that poster's name). It's a great way to connect with posters and is more personal than this kind of message board. Also, it's nice to stop in now and then and see the number of members growing, knowing that each new member helps to grow our strength and power.

Dear Amy,

I am simply trying to make people realise that you need to find the cause of fybromyalgia, not just treat the symptom. It is just a name for a group of symptoms with an unknown cause. Fructose malabsorption and food intolerance is just one cause of FM. So if my experience helps just one person then i have made a difference. You may be a vegetarian, but onions and garlic are high in fructans and so is some fruit and vegetables. Fiona

I have finally found a lawyer who will talk to me about a case. It sounded like he was thinking more along the lines of suing the doctors rather than Pfizer. At first I was hesitant, feeling a bit sorry for the doctors (i'm a soft-hearted idiot, I know!), but the reality is maybe if we start small, we can move to bigger targets. And more importantly there were at least 5 doctors that should have recognized the side effects. I'll post again once I have talked with him.

If you need more frequent support, I find the Lyrica Survivors Facebook page has many new active members sharing their stories & talking to others. Stop by if you're down in the dumps about lyrica!

@ Fiona - Thanks, for clearing that up. I obviously misread your first post & thought you were saying something different. Thanks for the tip on onions, garlic, & fruits.

Hello-My daughter was given 450mg by a doctor to ease her pain due to Fibro and Chronic Fatigue. She is one of 8%in the US that can't just "cold turkey" from this medication. Talking to the doctor, who says he "sells the product" for the manufacturer was useless. She is a mess also-but we are down to 50mg thanks to our regular doctor. Write and I will tell you more. I also would like an attorney to go against the company.

Susan- That's crazy (that the Dr is selling it) but too often true. And it is more like 99% that cannot detox cold turkey. Go to Facebook's Lyrica Survivor's page if you want to join us in fighting back.

Please keep us posted as to your results of the law-suit. I had been taking Lyrica, and Neurontin for nearly two years. I lost control of my legs due to severe muscle weakness, and I also lost a large percentage of my balance as a result of these drugs. I have been to the Neurologist, Rheamutalogist, Immuniologist, and several other doctors. They had no idea of what was going on. I have had MRI's, been tested for Lime, Lupus and MS and the doctor's could not tell me what was wrong. I finally stop taking both meds and I am feeling a whole lot better. It turns out that all that has happen to me is a result from the Lyrica and Neurontin. I have lost so much of my quality of life. It would be nice to be compensated.

I hope this reaches the masses: This drug needs taken off the market. Per the final judgement of Upjohn verses USDOJ Mass, The was one part that I would jsut horrible. Worst case side effects that were not put on the Black Box because the FDA said they felt it wasnt relative and they decide what goes on the label. REGARDLESS OF THE DOSAGE: coma, catatonia, vision loss, unresponsiveness and more. My son had all of these and it was blames on him..he had to do something right? It has to be his fault right? WRONG. He was injured on March 17th 2006, the case against Upjogn was files April 2006 and was being investigated since 2003. The finally judgement was make on Sept 2 2009. Contact the FDA about all of your side effects and start documenting. Suicide thoughts, psychotic episodes..we had them all. Please feel free to contact me regarding this horrible drug.

Hello everyone, I haven't written in a while. You see I've been quite busy trying to finish up my law degree. I should be taking my bar exam very soon. To refresh your memory, I was taking 300mg 4x daily. It affected every aspect of daily life. To everyone wanting to bring legal action against Pfitzer, I will happily represent all of you in a class action suit against the company. Believe me, I have the temperament and the "Lyrica" scars" to do battle with this drug company. Also I will seek compensation from private practice medical doctors for those of you that ask for it. I know I will be suing my doctor. All of these Attorneys are either afraid to go after the large drug companies, or they are on the drug companies payroll. I am niether, and by the time this is concluded I will be thier worst nightmare. I am totally fearless. We together will bring this drug giant down. Personally I won't be satisfied until they loose everything they have. After handling this lawsuit, only "one lawsuit", I should be able to retire quite comfortably. I know we can never get our damaged lives back together, but at least I will be able to help you to live a more comfortable life. And because this is very personal to me, I won't charge you a dime. Talk to you soon everyone, take care.
Roy

Roy...so glad to see this. I would like to share my story with you privately. I am very serious and determined to sue the doctor for malpractice. And then...Pfizer. Lyrica almost took my life. And it's practically ruined the life I have now. Please let me know if I can e-mail or phone you. Good luck with the bar! It is so great that you are able and willing to take on these cases! I am sorry you had to go through being on Lyrica...

I was only on Lyrica for 2 weeks be 4 making a VERY SERIOUS suicidal attempt on my life. I had tried 2 get hold of my pain doctor (i have R.S.D.) but the NURSE'S first thought was I wanted an early refilled of a stronger pain med. The doctor wouldn't see me and I was sent 2 the office manager like a child ,who had been bad at school! I also was walking like a drunk person/couldn't get the right words 2 come out of my mouth. My mental thinking was so "off key".All of these stories sound alike and of course the pain doctor make me feel like I was mental unstable and it has really ruined my life! Trying 2 find a lawyer-i am in NC. Most people (doctors) do not understand how hard it is, 2 pick up the pieces and continue on with your life. The suicide attempt will be hanging over my head 4 the rest of my life. If anybody has any new information, feel free 2 email me-thanks 4 listening....

Roy, I just posted my story,(the short version) so if you would like to email me sometime-that would be great. This drug has made my life so hard to live-I lost my health insurance, my car insurance and my prescription insurance and the only person I can really rely on is my 18yr old son and he shouldn't have had 2 go through all of this. Please keep in touch! Thanks, Cindi B

Roy, There are also lots of people in the Facebook group Lyrica Survivors who may not have been to this site. I did post the link there. I am 100% on board for the lawsuit having spent years on this drug before most people even knew it existed. Thanks for offering your help! Good luck with the bar exam & your studies. Please let us know what we can do to assist you w/this case in the meantime. Thanks, Amy

Thank you so much Roy, I am so happy that someone is finally ready and able to help the survivors of Lyrica. I am just sad that you had to go through it yourself, but that is truely the only way anyone could understand the terror and damage that this drug causes. I had too many problems to list and am still suffering from PTSD and going to multiple specialists trying to figure out what all these new symptoms that I am suffering with are.But since no one takes me seriously all I can do is document all of the things that I did( can remember doing) when I was on Lyrica, what has happened to me since then, and the drs I've talked to, the hospital visits, so that when I actually have a stroke or anuresum or die I or my family can sue the doctors. Lyrica brought nothing but pain and hell to my life and I can't believe the FDA would allow doctors to prescribe this drug.

When are you getting your law degree and what state are you in? Most attornys will not touch this. next question, since the FDA refused to but all side effects of this drug on the Blackbox and says I can not get it under Freedom Of Information how can I get besides going to the Attorney General. I will help you with this case if you like.

Is there a law suit and how do we get in volved? The worst parts are the damage it dose in the digestive system. And the part that the company tells Dr's that Lyrica isn't addictive.
