Lyrica Terrible Side Effects (Page 5) (Top voted first)

Updated

Lyrica has ruined my life. It wasn't bad enough with the pain from my back injury. I only took Lyrica for 2 weeks. The weight gain was bad. I lost 1/3 of my hair in 4 months. I have had a rash for over 1 year now. I mean a bad rash. This was my first side effect. And they warn you of this. Get off Lyrica asap if you get a rash. I thought I was having a stroke the first week on Lyrica when they rushed me to the hospital. I had read on the internet of how many young people have died from strokes from taking Lyrica. My vision is so bad now. I can barely drive at night time and I have to were glasses to see the tv. The worst side effect I've had and still have is the terrible, terrible pain in all my joints. My knees are so bad and my hands and fingers & joints pound and throb 24-7. The swelling in my arms and hands was so bad at one time, I thought I would lose my limbs due to non circulation. The pain is so bad in my knees, I can barely walk everyday. I am self employed and I type and write all day. My hands hurt so bad. I can barely hold anything in the mornings to pin my hair up or put on my makeup. As bad as my pain was and is in my back and cyatic nerve the Lyrica did help. It was a miracle. But I only took it 2 weeks and after 1 year I still have all the terrible side effects. I've been looking on the internet for other peoples bad reactions and I was told by my doctor and the hospital, I had a very bad reaction to it. I've seen a lot of people say they have never got rid of the knee pain and joint pain. Very scary. I called the drug company that makes Lyrica. I told them the side effects that I was having and the first question they asked me was how was my eye sight. I had a fit. I told them the double vision and blurry vision was bad. They made the comment to me that Pifzer was doing a study on this side effect. I was in an automobile accident, that was bad enough, but this drug Lyrica has ruined my life and there is no cure. There are numerous law suits against this drug. I will never be the same again!

I can relate for I to took lyrica for nerve pain from spinal issue. Iwas on the medicine from the 10th- 26 th of March 2015. I was told by the phARMASIST TO GO STRAIGHT URGENT CARE WHO REFUSED TO SEE ME DUT TO THE FACT THEY DON'T SEE YOU IF YOU ARE HAVING SIDEE EFFECTS TO MEDICATION. WHAT A CROCK! SO OFF TO THE ER got RIGHT I N JUST TO WAIT 5 1/2 HRS TO RECEIVE A DIAGNOSIS OF SHORTNESS OF BREATH. ALTHOUGH NO TREATMENT GIVEN EVEN FOR THAT. , OR FOR THE SWELLING OF ALL MY EXTREMITIES AND ABDOMEN, UNCONTROLLABLE JERKING AND SHAKING, POOR COORDINATION AND UNSTEADINESS, CONFUSION, MEMORY LOSS AND HANDWRITING BEING EFFECTED. I am curious what treatment was given you to combat your sypmtoms? Do you have an attorney. If this doen't all clear up I am hiring one and filing formal complaint with the State board of Health and physicians. I reported the side effects to FDA as well as PHIZER. Sorry for the all the mistakes in this typing,to eheausted to start over.

I am in the process of going off the Lyrica... been taking 350 mg daily for sometime, but the recent increase of 50 mg set over the top and I was hospitalized with suicidal ideation/thinking.. the inability to sleep. I've never been in a mental health psyc ward before, it was a horrible experience! I see here that several people have been helped by Lyrica... and many more have had disastrous experiences.. life threating.. I would add my name to a law suite if I thought it would help, but I suspect that the odds are against us. Everyone reacts to medication differently, chemistry at work, and the fact that Lyrica helps others... the warning on the medication should be taken seriously. Buyer beware!! We need not trust our doctors to know everything, I've just learned that I need to be the best advocate for myself even more.. I need to always remember that, not to trust the doctors to know what they are doing with my own body. With this experience, the hospitalization, it has taught me to research everything before I take medication, making sure I am willing to take the risk of taking something. I learned a big lesson the hard way!!

I took one dose of Lyrica, 75 mg one morning. Within 45 minutes I was acting like a drunk. I could not walk straight, my speech was slurred and I talked very loudly. My body jerked, my extremities on both sides jerked at the same time, continuously. I could not focus at all, neither close up or far away, I needed help to walk because my legs wouldn't lift properly although they felt like they were. That was the end of November or the first part of December and this is may of 2015. Within 6 hours or so I was back to somewhat normal except neither of my legs were steady. That took a few more hours. I slept alot that first day. I still have severe twitches in my fingers and sometimes my hands. I have no control when I am going to twitch but I have found that repetition of 3 times or more of one action I start twitching - 90% of the time. This means typing is alot more time consuming, drawing blood at my job is impossible after drawing the first 3 patients; texting and dialing takes alot of time because I can never hit the right keys, numbers the first couple times around. The twitching is even worse when I drink coffee, am overly tired, when I concentrate on something that uses my fine motor skills and when I am not feeling well. I can never carry a plate with food on it with out my hand trembling. Sometimes, but not as often my twitches start when I am doing nothing. I can't stop the twiches with my other twitchy fingers but they all twitch more. I thought these twitches would go away with time but it doesn't look like that is going to happen, if anything they have gotten worse - but that may be only because I pay attention to them more. They always feel like they want to twitch even when they don't. ALWAYS. These symptoms NEVER occured before the Lyrica, ever. Has anyone else had this experience and does it ever go away?

I am replying to my own post dated April 8 2015. I must apologize for the Cap lock was on and I didn't realize it as well as my typing was horrid. I am giving an update. My health continues to go down hill and in sever polynueropathy pain. It is getting to the point that I barely can walk. I am having to resort to a motorized scooter. This has been very discouraging. My polynueropathy was induced by the drug pregabalin/Lyrica.The nerve conduction study verified the severity of my polynueropathy. The doctor said because I am allergic to the medication to treat polynueropathy, which is usaually Lyrica and Gabapentin. Very much need help. I can't believe what has happend to me. I use to walk 2 miles a day, and was looking forward to Zumba and crossfit once again. Now I barely can walk. I have trouble sleeping due to the pain as well. I continue to gain weight even though I am very health conscious in the way and amount I eat. This has been a nightmare!

I took Lyrica for chronic pain for about 2 weeks and I would like to find out more information about this medicine and its side effects.

Thanks for posting your stories, it makes me feel less alone in my misery. I took Lyrica 300mg twice a day for about 6 months to address chronic pain with trapped nerves in my left arm. Initially it was fantastic, it really helped with the pain until I could get a couple of Cortazone injections. When the Cortazone started working it’s magic I started to wean off Lyrica over a period of 6 weeks. The withdrawal symptoms were awful, felt so bad for a few weeks till it got out of my system. I nearly went back on it during this time because I felt so bad.

16 months later I stil have symptoms that I never ever had before I took Lyrica. Symptoms include daily headaches, daily nausea, shortness of breath, tired muscles, fatigue, suicidal thoughts, dizziness, irritability, anger, can barely walk sometimes because my hip joint gets so painful, my finger nails are collapsing and I also get brain fog, it’s feels like a part of my brain is broken and unable to deal with normal annoyances in life anymore.

Yesterday I lost my job because my boss said I’m too moody and the rest of the team are afraid to say anything to me in case I get annoyed with them. I have open and honest with him over the last 16 months and he basically told me to get lost, we do t want you anymore. I asked him would he be firing me if I had a brain tumour, he didn’t reply. I have also missed lots of work / money over this time which isn’t helping matters either.

That’s the problem with an illness that you can’t really 100% prove or doesn’t have a name, most doctors and employers don’t believe a word.

In relation to finding out what’s wrong I have done every possible test and seen every possible specialist that relate to my symptoms. Every single test came back clear thankfully.

Initially my doctor thought it was phsycosematic and maybe still does but I wasn’t taking that for an answer. That’s normally caused by stress and anxiety which I do not have. He spoke to a pain management specialist who prescribed Lyrica a lot and he has seen people with prolonged symptoms after the withdrawal phase but only for two months. I made the point that if it can happen 2 months after withdrawal why can’t it happen for 16 months after withdrawal, everyone reacts differently. And 2 months is just “his experience” because from reading some of the stories in this list it certainly can last a lot longer than 2 months.

I see this pain specialist on 28th November to see what he thinks but I already know the answer ...

Lyrica has and is ruining my life !
