Lyrica Is Dangerous / Class Action Suit Anyone? (Page 14)

I have crps in both hands from carpal tunnel release...after several months, I was worse, not better. My workmens comp dr. said " You will have chronic pain the rest of your life and you will just have to learn to live with it"...oh thanks doc for screwing my hands up, not to mention how it has drastically has changed my life and limitations. I have been seeing a pain specialist ever since and that was back in 2001 when I had the release. I was on lyrica for the last 6 years, I have been off of it for three months. Now that I think back to when my severe depression started was not long since I started taking it. I don't know how many times I said I hate my life and I wish I was dead, I had thoughts of taking all my prescriptions and going to sleep for good! By the grace of god, I had my four nephews to take care of and I truly believe they saved my life! My pain management N.P wanted to keep a close eye on me when I started taking it, so I went from going every six months to every three months and when my depression got worse every two months...nothing was done, I was on 600 mg. a day, why didn't she try to lower my dose? I complained about the swelling and she said she didn't have any other patients complain, I was taking lyrica for the pain in my hands and the whole time it was making them worse! There were many time I would be driving and make a turn and not know where I was...one day I couldn't remember my address, I couldn't remember conversations I had with my boys, I had no brain! When I came off lyrica and I did it slowly...it was one of the hardest things I have ever done. Hot, cold, night sweats, nauseous...I was at the grocery store and literally felt like a monster coming out of me, thank god I am off lyrica! My lawyer is checking on a class action lawsuit, all of us that has had a horrible experience with lyrica, we all need to come together and they need to pay for putting this horrible drug on the market!

I know what you mean. I have been off lyrica for 8 years now. What helps me pairwise is Tylenol # 3. I still have memory loss and panic attacks.

I certainly wish I had read all of this before I started taking lyrica about 18 months ago for fibromyalgia. I read up on side effects but thought it was like every other drugs list of side effects and that they were isolated cases and of course "not me". I was put on many medications during those 18 months trying to find some help but came off of them because my doctor didn't think my side effects were from the lyrica, and she increased my dose of lyrica, from 300 to 450 mg. I felt like crap so I decided to try and slowly reduce my dosage in February, first skipping every third dose, then every other dose. Meanwhile I was being treated for an additional disorder found, adhd (which I've always suspected, both my sons have it and so many things in my life made sense for a change, I got some answers..woohoo!) I had tried a few adhd medications since my diagnosis in November. By March I thought I was going crazy, I ended up in the ER because I wanted to hurt myself, I cried non stop, had panic attacks constantly, couldn't sleep for nights on end cause of my temp being up and down, I was very angry and irritable among other symptoms. I thought it was due to starting dexedrine (I had been on that about 3 weeks, prior to that I tried adderall, strattera, and vyvanse) and I was in a lot of pain with a rotator cuff injury found out of blue, tennis elbow and a huge flare up of my carpal tunnel. I automatically blamed the dexedrine, stopped it and went back to my 450 mg of lyrica because it did help with the fibro pain. In April we lost our good insurance and didn't get our new one until June 1st. I had just filled my script for lyrica prior to finding out about our insurance. Of course lyrica is a tier 3 drug under our new plan and not covered until our high deductible is met. Even with a prescription discount card it was going to cost $400 a month. We can't afford that, it's impossible. So I decided I would have to find an alternative and didn't pick up my filled prescription, that was 10 days ago and I felt the same way after being off it for a couple days as I did in march (no taper, because I ran out) then it hit me, is this from stopping the lyrica?? I had every symptom before I even went looking for answers on the net (my mouth hit the floor when I read about others) the cold sweats, no sleep, irritability, and severe nausea to where I can't eat! I realize stimulants can cause appetite suppression but I was still able to maintain my weight for the most part, lost maybe 5-10 lbs over a 5 month period (which was mainly in March) I never did gain weight on lyrica, but it sure has made me lose being off of it, 10# in 10 days, bringing me to 120 lbs at 5'8" and 50 years old, very frail and sickly, my family is freaking out. Just the thought of food makes me sick, so it wasn't the dex!?!? Lyrica had taken over my life, now I just cry to my husband because I have no idea who I am, I can't even muster up to put on a happy face for ANYONE, which I could always grin and bear it. In addition to the w/d symptoms my fibro pain has returned with a vengence, to where I can barely move around. I contemplated going and just getting a few lyrica from my pharmacy so I could at least taper down but I know it's just putting off the inevitable...like everyone else says "HELL". So here I am, researching to find any alternatives. I got the GABA from GNC, valerian root and Benadryl for the cold sweats at night (which is helping a little!) I wish everyone good luck in this endeavor, we will get thru this, somehow! AND I will never take this again, it has put me close to death to many times (totaled car from an accident, when I'd never had an accident before, bleeding ulcer 1 year ago yesterday, falls, fear of driving.and just way too many other close calls!). I will be filing a formal complaint this weekend! Sorry this is so long, it did ask for details and my adhd magnifies my thoughts and makes me ramble! Thanks for listening to my story, first time I've ever posted anything!

Hi Ellie,
I've now contacted Rottenstein Law three times and have not yet had a response from them. Have you actually had a reply from these people? If so...how'd you manage that? :) Thanks...I really hope there is some redress for the many of us who are suffering/have suffered grave personal losses from this drug.

I too had a bad experience with LYRICA. I was placed on it by pain management after back surgery. I had the worst pain..I HAVE EVER FELT, running down my left leg. The surgery helped some but my leg still hurt and I still walked stiff trying to keep from any unnecessary movement. I tried it all. Nothing worked so they placed me on the lyrica. I will have to say IT DID RID ME OF THE PAIN, but I lost my mind. I couldn't make decisions at work. I walked in a fog, feeling the need to lay down and sleep. I handled money, at times during the day SO I HAD TO BE ALERT. BEFORE I knew what was happening, I call a deceased stock boy, by intercom, to assist a customer. I realized that was wrong and called again for someone whom had not been there IN YEARS. KNOWING THAT WAS WRONG AGAIN.. I FELT VERY ALONE AND LOW AT THIS TIME. UPON CALL ING my dr. I was instructed to stop the drug immediately. I was on it just a month but I have NEVER made as many mistakes, publicly, in my life.
This drug needs to be taken off the market. To this day, I feel paranoid, anti social, and pretty much a recluse. I was not this way before I received the medication. A NEVER AGAIN

No you won't be a PITA. just think if everyone on this site put in for the class action suit!!!! I started on the drug in 2007. I would be driving on the highway and would have to pull over because I forgot how to drive!!! I have experienced all the side effects mentioned on this site. Memory loss, loss of teeth, extreme weight gain, attempted suicide, total personality change, thought pattern change, absolutely no ability to concentrate and unable to carry conversations because couldn't remember what I said 30 seconds previously, eye sight decreased and on and on it goes. We all have the same story. Let us all stick together and support each and every one. Every life is valuable even when this drug has changed us All Permanently!!!! AND THAT'S THE MOST FRIGHTENING PART OF ALL.

Hope your lawyer can help
In order to find all the people who have had a bad reaction to this drug an ad should be put on TV. They are a lot of people on this blog and are on different threads. Also some have never noted or reported the effects of this drug.

Lyrica is noted to destroy nerves in diabetic neuropathy. If so, what is it doing to our brains.
