Losartan And Valerian Root

I would like to know if I take Valerian root for sleep support, will my blood pressure go up? I take Losartan 100 mg in the morning.

It is stated that you should not take it, if you have high blood pressure, unless your doctor says it is safe for you to do so, combining them can increased the dizziness, and drowsiness you might experience, according to NIH reports. However, I did not find any dangerous interactions listed.

Are you on any other medications?

Generally, according to AMA reports, your getting sleep is very important to help control your blood pressure.

Both Losartan and valerian root may lower blood pressure, so you may not wish to take them together.

A study cited by the American Family Physician journal in a 2003 article notes decreases in blood pressure in subjects taking valerian root for its effect on stress and anxiety. This indicates that taking valerian root for stress also may decrease blood pressure.

I'd recommend checking with your doctor before starting any herbal supplement.
