Looking For A Doctor That Is Willing To Prescribe Xanax While Being Treated With Methadone (Top voted first)
UpdatedLooking for a Dr. in Northern Kentucky or greater Cincinnati area that will prescribe xanax while taking methadone. I would prefer a dr that would prescribe both, and be willing to take ky medical card or medicaid. but if i could at least find a dr that will just accept taking methadone and still prescribe something for extreme anxiety along with sleep disorder bi-polor type 2 and the other usual disorders that accompany that type illnesses that would be great!!! If i have to I will take a Dr. that has some time of self pay. I think that's where I don't bill or use any type of insurance i pay cash per visit and that's fine with me. PLEASE HELP I know plety of Drs that will easily prescribe nerve meds with my condition but I don't want to have different Drs that do not know about each other. I need a Dr that will accept and treat both together. Or knowing the full situation. THANKS
No, IT IS NOT AGAINST THE LAW!!! I'm prescribed 90mg methadone & 4 mg klonopin per day... perfectly legal. Also, if not abused, there are zero health risks... i.e overdose. Been on both for 10 yrs. Please, don't give ppl a bad name who take their meds as prescribed by abusing opiates & benzos!!!
Don't listen to the ignorant a-hole that called you a dope addict. Some people STILL don't realize (and here it is 2017!) that what we have is a disease. I am in the same boat as you. I go to a methadone clinic and they let me have a prescription for Klonopin because it is the safest of all the benzos. Unfortunately I live in Tennessee and my methadone clinic is in Asheville North Carolina so I can't really help you there. But please don't give up looking because there are doctors out there that will write benzos while you are on methadone... maybe not xanax but try to get klonopin or ativan. You might have better luck that way. I hope I've helped you even a little! Good luck!

I guess you are one of those folks that consider anything you take as "medicine" while another person taking the same thing you take (in ur opinion) are low life drug addicts! My sis once told me she had severe panic attacks & could not leave home. I laughed at her, thinking "it's just in ur mind" - that is, until I started having panic attacks. This site is for people to help others, nor criticize them! I pray you never have a full blown panic attack!
Re: Jeff (# 2)
Learn what addiction is. This person is clean and trying to stay that way. To put them down is shameful.
Re: Jeff (# 2)
Just because a person has a drug problem doesn’t give you the right to come out and call them a dope addict!!! You haven’t walked a mile in their shoes therefore you have no idea how they got in that position!!! Didn’t your mama ever tell you ..... if you have nothing nice to say then don’t say anything at all!!! I’m also an addict, but it doesn’t mean that I don’t need my Xanax. I have ptsd from childhood abuse and from being shot as an adult. Benzodiazepines are the only medications that control my panic disorder.. I’ve tried dozens of non benzo medications and none worked!!!! So far at least!!!
Re: Elle (# 7)
I’ve been on methadone for about 22 years now and my dose is very high (213mgs) daily. I am a chronic pain patient since age 19 when I was hit by a car which knocked me off of my Harley Davidson & then dragged for 68 feet under the car that hit me before the older woman who was driving the car realized I was being dragged on the pavement which gave my 3rd and 4th degree burns (Road Rash) down entire right leg and 1/2 of my left leg. I broke 39 different bones. It took 250 stitches & staples to close my open head wound that left my actual skull exposed because I was like “Scalped” like back in the Wild West. I was hospitalized and put into a medically induced coma for around 3 weeks while in the burn unit because every day they were “De-Braiding” (Scraping as much gravel outta my legs). And I also had 3 orthopedic surgeries to put screws and bolts into my very broken legs my left wrist/hand/ lower arm. I also had a lot of minor injuries that would take way to long to list. 22 years ago my pain management doctor told me that he wanted me to try methadone for 2 reasons.
#1) I was being given a myriad of very strong schedule 2 opiates that would make me so “loopy & sedated” I couldn’t function as a normal person. I couldn’t drive because I was too impaired, I couldn’t cook because I might nod off and burn the house down. It was truly awful. But when I began taking methadone I found that my pain was tolerable and I didn’t get any side effects whatsoever anymore and the quality of my life improved instantly and I was so relieved and thankful.
Fast forward too current date and time I was in car accident (An idiot ran a red light and I T-Boned him and completely totaled my brand new 2016 Toyota Corolla Limited Edition!! The accident wasn’t my fault. So now my left hip is grinding bone on bone and on 9-21-2022 (Roughly 4 weeks from today) I’m finally getting my hip replacement surgery.
I also have taken Valium since July 2007 when my 18 year old son died. He’d just graduated from high school 8 weeks prior and he was turning 18 in 6 weeks when he took his life. So afterwards I literally went crazy. My husband took me to a psychiatric emergency room where I was prescribed a very high dose of Valium (10 mgs 6 or 7 a day) eventually after maybe 10 years after his death down to 5 mg Valium twice daily along with #15 extra pills for whenever my PTSD/ANXIETY/Nightmares/Flashbacks yada..yada.
My pain management doctor back then knew I took Valium and was concerned that I’d overdose taking both medications. Personally I have never had any problems whatsoever taking both Methadone and Valium under supervision.
Unfortunately, no one can really know ahead of time what a doctor is or is not willing to prescribe, as that is based on the doctor's discretion and not on someone else's previous appointment (especially since many doctor's are now worried about losing their licensing for prescribing too many narcotics/heavily controlled substances).
If you suffer from anxiety and need a Benzodiazepine class medication (like Xanax), usually your best bet is to see a psychiatrist rather than a regular medical doctor. Reason being is that they are better trained in the types of medications that handle these problems as well as having a better understanding of how to cope with situations in the event that you don't have your medication on hand. A good psychiatrist would also work on your behalf with a pain management physician who can offer more help with opioid dependency.
The other option would be to see a pain management doctor who you know has the ability to prescribe medications like methadone, but they may end up referring you to a psychiatrist for xanax if they are feeling reluctant to prescribe anything more than methadone.
Also, if you need any assistance locating pain management doctors within your general area, you can input your city or zip code in the link below for narrowed results:

Hi Sleepless In Kentucky
In my experience with opioids and Xanax,my psychiatrist took me off my Xanax said I couldn't have that and the hydrocodone and Embeda er,i wrote the governor of my state and he wrote back and said he was watching how the DEA was going about taking are medical rights away you might say, well needless to say after about 2 months of not getting my Xanax all i had to do is sign a waiver for either the CDC or the DEA and i got my Xanax back, but he is limited to how much he can give me because I take the hydrocodone and Embeda,so if you find a Dr see if you can just sign the waiver to get the Xanax.Good luck to you
Re: Jeff (# 2)
Do you know how it feels to be a "dope addict"?
My clinic won't even take you as a patient if you're on Xanax anymore, been that way for about 7 years now. Try Klonopin, it has a longer half life and it works well. I wish the older meds were still around like Doriden and Placidyl.

Re: Tiffrob1980 (# 11)
Some of these specialists have a long wait, or don't participate in Insurance. You can start will a family practice Doctor that might be able to help you, and then follow up with a specialist if necessary!
In NYC. Wow, I thought other places would be easier not harder
