Long Term Side Effects Of Harvoni (Page 7) (Top voted first)

Updated

I had Harvoni treatment last spring. I am not the same. My nervous system is a wreck. My anxiety problems have increased, depression and lack of motivation. My eyes changed drastically. My thoughts are not focused, I am nervous all the time, can focus or sleep. I had a 2 month migraine. Ringing in the ears is intense. I also was on pigalated interferon and ribivirn, I was pulled off mid treatment because I got so sick. After that treatment, I also had long term side effects. There isn't any back support for post harvoni people, nor are their anyone specializing in the after effect of long term HCV infection, it is NOT just a liver disease, it effects the nervous system and all else. I am at a loss for support with the doctors in my area, none seem to want to do any research and they don't have enough people in individual offices to report they have patients with long term problems. In our groups there are many with long term side effects. The doctor's try to pin it all on other stuff without really knowing. They just aren't listening. I know my body, I know the changes I have experienced. I am just really disappointed that there is not knowledgeable people out there for post HCV and post treatment hcv survivors. I need a support team that listens, they don't. I have extreme frustration to the lack of support after treatment.

My list of side effects: headaches, tinnitus, joint pain, severe low back pain, fatigue, depression, numbness of the feet, leg cramps, gastrointestinal issues in that I can't eat much without getting nausea, bloating and sometimes vomiting. Brain fog, hair loss, vision worse and that is just what I can think of right now. I have lost 45 pounds and still loosing without trying to lose weight. I wish I had known the side effects of Harvoni b4 I took it 2 years ago, my life is filled with pain, no one understands except the others of us still suffering, we have some invisible illness that impacted our immune system and overall health. I can no longer work and my check from SSDI is not enough for me to live on. Gilead will never own up the what has happened to those of us affected in a negative way.

My husband died nine months ago today. He had taken Harvoni and they said he was cured. He had all these same side effects. He was 57 years old. He had the muscle pain, joint pain, other bone pain, constant movement, insomnia, migraines, ringing of the ears, gradual loss of vision, confusion, memory loss, dizziness, fatigue, tingling and numbness in his extremities, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, increasing agitation, angry outbursts, and thought he was going crazy. Agitation and angry outbursts is what ended up sending him to the hospital and a week later he died. Yes, he was angry and confused that night, but he was conscious when the police came. The next time I saw him he was in a coma. Doctors did not tell me much, just that he had an acute renal injury, a severe infection, and that his organs were slowly shutting down. A week later I had to make the decision to take him off of life support. I was told he died of suicide secondary to pneumonia. I still think it was the Harvoni. He was not the type to kill himself and by pneumonia? Really? I wish I knew all of this before I lost him.

I am more than 2 years post Harvoni. I have since developed a horrible illness called gastroparesis. It basically means that my digestive system does not work well anymore; and causes more things to hurt in my stomach area than I thought was possible. Was it the Harvoni? Only the docs might know (surely SOME must) and they're not talking. I know for sure that I am much sicker than I was before treatment.

I know how you feel. I have a missing grandson, gone over 4 and a half years. No word, no sign. At this point I think he was murdered, committed suicide, being held against his will, joined a cult? Or maybe (hopefully) does not want to be found. But I am 67, he is/would be 25 now. I raised him. No support except this one group of volunteers who have all had a loved one go missing. No one else wants to hear about it. It hurts.

I live in a town of 8000. I got help through an agency, she helped me shower, make my bed … surely (I hope) there must be some sort of help for you. If it wasn't for my husband, I don't think I could make it.

Wish there was a class action as many of us have been forever damaged from taking Harvoni. There is a law firm in Florida, Levin Papantonio, that is taking information about cases but at this point not pursuing active action against Gilead. You may want to contact them. There are so many who have been injured and it is a shame that we all can't band together against this horrible pharmaceutical company who cares so little about us and so much about $$$$$.

No lawyers want to take on this Gilead. I am amazed they black boxed this medicine. That's one step in the right direction. GOD, be with all of us who took this poison!

I am so sorry to hear your news of all the pain, and yes anyone with physical pain is now considered a drug addict looking for pain meds, left in waiting rooms for hours. I am surprised there have been no deaths from any of us waiting in the hospital being labeled as a drug addict or crazy... It makes me sick. I hope you are feeling better and I do believe Harvoni is the cause of all our horrible symptoms. God help us as we are lost, some losing their homes, living off the retirement too early and being denied Disability Social Security. We need a lawsuit but not even Erin Brockovich will look at our case, I guess she doesn't even want to take on big pharma.

I am currently taking Harvoni. I have 20 days left. Believe me folks, it's not for sissys! This s*** is awful! I feel like crap and have since I started. My dr has been good to deal with side effects but nevertheless, there are side effects! The pain in my body, the nausea, and the depression gets a bit overwhelming at times. My liver enzymes are now elevated but why not, it's sorta a type of chemotherapy! I read 'be thankful for the gift that's given' but believe me its not any gift I have ever received!! Although the hcv has read undetected I will be so thankful to be done with this s***! Listen, People live a normal decent life for 20-30 yrs with hep c and I wonder if that would have been better than all the repercussions of Harvoni trmt. I am 58 next week and to live another 10-15 yrs with hep I prob could have handled better. So people need to think about receiving a 'gift' like this! Now Im not blind to the fact that my lifestyle got me into this mess but I beat addiction. I beat the endless nights of my nefarious ways but I have a feeling the effects from this drug I will never beat. They are many! I will stop here but I want to say this has not been a picnic and I don't believe the lasting effects will be easier. Love to all!!!

I sent them a text and was answered right away. They said someone will be calling me within 24 hours. I was surprised someone was working so late-8:30 at night (Texas time, CST).

Well it's been over 24 hours and NO one has called me as they said they would. I'll give it another day and if no one contacts me, I will start becoming suspicious.

Re: Cieira (# 233) Expand Referenced Message

Gilead bought Sovaldi from Pharmasett and created Harvoni (Sovaldi + Ledipasvir) that cured genotype one and it was approved by the FDA in October of 2014. Gilead’s Epclusa (Sovaldi + Velpatasvir) was approved by the FDA over a year later for the treatment of ALL GENOTYPES.

I was well aware of the risk I was taking because we were the first to use these medicines. I believe studies must be done to figure out how to help those of us with long term side effects. Most who have taken this medicine have no long term side effects and their health has greatly improved.

If you would like to learn about the development of Sovaldi, read this article.

Despite my current suffering from the long term side effects, I am very grateful I was cured and I’m grateful to Michael Sofia.

I am focusing solely on figuring out how to recover now. I’m not sure if I will participate in the lawsuit, but I HAVE inquired with the law firm. If a lawsuit is needed to get the medical establishment to help us, I’m in.
