This contains the active ingredient Amlodipine, it is a calcium channel blocker that is used to treat hypertension and other cardiac conditions.
As long as it isn't time released, it can be cut in half safely, however, you shouldn't adjust your dosage, without consulting with your doctor.
For these medications, most doctors prescribe them once daily, in the morning and the reason they do so it to get you in the habit of taking them, so you don't forget and to allow the medication to work and control your blood pressure and heart rate during your most active times of day.
However, there can be some drawbacks to this. One, which you've already discovered is that it can cause dizziness, which can be problematic during the day.
And the other can be that at night, after the medication starts to wear off, your blood pressure and heart rate may go up and this can cause trouble sleeping.
There is no harm in taking the medication at night, if you choose to do so, just keep an eye on your heart rate and blood pressure during the day, to see if it causes a problem.
But, the best way to take them is to actually split the dosage and take half in the morning and half at night, this can help give better control over your blood pressure for a full 24 hour period.
When I first left the hospital, my doctor has prescribed all of my medications to be taken, once daily, in the morning and I quickly realized that the side effects of taking them all at once were too severe and my blood pressure was also going up at night, so I had trouble sleeping. Splitting my doses to take them twice a day is the first thing I did and my Cardiologist told me that it was good to split them up that way, as long as you can remember to take them, as you are supposed to.
Many people don't and that is why they are usually given as a once daily prescription.
