A day after missing my pill, I got my period ( like normal and on schedule ) I restarted taking the Lo Loestrin Fe back 2 weeks after being off it. Then my period started again 20 days after the last day of my period. It was light ( like my last period ). But the problem or concern I have now is that I got the period for a week, then it stopped for 2 days, then came back for another 2 days ( also light that it is ok to just wear pantiliner ) then after that it stopped for another 2 days, now its back again and I am having little cramps like I am having period. Is this normal? ## Yes, that can happen, if you miss pills ...
If I have started the pill on the first day of my current period, how long do I have to take the pill in order for it to protect me against pregnancy without using a condom? ## Hello, Moria! How are you? If started on the first day of your period, it is effective immediately, according to the FDA information, because it should prevent ovulation from occurring this cycle. Typical side effects to oral contraceptives are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, breakthrough bleeding and PMS like symptoms. Is there anything else I can help with?
I started the pill 4 days after my period started. I started on a Monday. I been on it for 5 days. How long does it take to work due to the fact that I didn't take it on the first day of my period? What are my chances of getting pregnant? ## Hello, Dezi! How are you? It needs to be taken for a full 7 days, to reach its full level of effectiveness in the body, according to the FDA guidelines on oral contraceptives. So, you'd need to use some additional form of protection, until the 8th day of taking active pills, otherwise, you risk pregnancy. Typical side effects are listed as nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, weight gain and PMS like symptoms. Is there anything else I can help with?
I have been taking lo loestrin fe for a few months now. I was supposed to start a new pack on Monday (now it's Thursday) but due to some pharmacy mix up I was unable to pick up my prescription in time for the new pack. I picked it up today. Should I start the new pack on Monday? I think I read I was supposed to start on my period but I won't be getting that for awhile (I get it every two months) and I haven't gotten a period in months because of the pills. I really would like to get back on my birth control ASAP because the symptoms of getting off are terrible. Thanks! ## Hello, Angelica! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you had. As long as it's okay with your doctor, then the FDA information states that you can also start at any point in your cycle, but...
This morning when I meant to take my third blue pill in the pack, it was i couldn't see so I accidentally had my pack upside down and instead took the second white pill that i should take at the end of the pack. When i realized what i did i took the correct blue pill immediately, but now i will only have one white pill when the time comes to take it at the end of the month. Is it okay to take only one white pill and then have three days of placebo, one where i just don't take any pill? Or is it okay to skip the last 4 pills altogether and just start my new pack right after my last blue one? Which option will not decrease the effectiveness of the pill? ## Hello, Anna! How are you? Sorry about what happened. If your doctor approves, you should be able to do whichever option works ...
I started lo loestrin fe 3 months ago and I didn't realize until now you are supposed to take the white pills! Last month I had cramps and spotting when I should have had period. I haven't taken any white but never missed blue pills. I am 18 days into my new pack and am extremely worried I could have gotten pregnant. What are the chances?! ## Yes, you are supposed to take those ones, they do contain an active hormone, so there could be a risk of getting pregnant. Probably not a very high one, since theoretically, you were at the end of your cycle at that point, not in the middle where you'd normally ovulate. If you don't get your period, when it's due then having yourself checked for pregnancy would be a good idea. But otherwise, if you start, you're in the clear...
My pharmacy couldn't offer my Loestrin Fe at the price I was paying and my doctor suggested I switch to either Lo Loestrin Fe (same active cycle but with a lower dose) or Junel (different active cycle). I chose the LoLo just because it seemed easier, but I was standing in a crowded pharmacy and didn't feel like I could ask all the questions I wanted. So I'm still a little suspicious. What does the low dosage of estrogen really affect? I guess what I"m asking is, if it's not as important as the progestin, why is it in the pill at all? I use bc for contraception, not so much period/mood regulation (mine were never that bad off the pill.) ## Well, it it is a vital female hormone and the amount in different women's bodies varies, so not all of them can take the same ...
Hi, I've been on Lo Loestrin for the past month and a half or so. For the past couple days, I have been kinda sloppy with taking my pills on time. I'm supposed to take them at 1pm, but I forgot until about 4 pm. I have done this twice this week, actually yesterday and today, should I be worried about using condoms next time I have intercourse within the next week, or is it close enough to the normal time that I don't have to worry too much? ## Hello, Abby! How are you? No, you should be fine, unless your doctor says otherwise. There's generally a window of 12 to 24 hours, before it's actually considered that you missed a pill, so taking them a couple hours late is usually considered fine. Typical side effects to OCs may include nausea, headache, bloating, irregular b...
Hi, I've been taking lo loestrin Fe for a while now and I'm really good at taking my pills regularly. However, this past week has been a mess. I had to fill my prescription on Monday but I was supposed to take a pill on Sunday night. So I took it as soon as I got my refill. Then I somehow missed Monday night, Tuesday night, and last night. I woke up, realized that I forgot and freaked out. I took the three pills. Then I read that if you miss three or more pills you must start a new pack. What does that mean? I already took the three I missed. If I were to start a new pack would I start on the first Thursday? (Today) help!! ## Hello, Alyssa! How are you? Unless your doctor instructs you otherwise, you can continue with this pack, but use a backup method of contraception, until yo...
I started taking Lo Loestrin FE on 10/12/13, the Sunday after my last period. This Wednesday I started bleeding brown a little, but only when I wiped. Now it's Friday and I'm bleeding even more, but I shouldn't have my period for another week and a half. Is this just my body adjusting or should I stop taking it and as my gyno for something else? ## Hello, Katrina! How are you? Yes, it can take about 3 months for your body to get used to these hormonal contraceptives and breakthrough bleeding is very common during that time period. However, it is best to consult your doctor to be sure that there's nothing else unusual going on. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Yes thank you so much! I called my doctor and they said the same thing, and to not worry about it (but ...
So I'm going on vacation Nov 7th. And I'm not sure if I will have my period and I'm trying to avoid it. I usually get my period at the end of the month around the 26th or 27th but for some reason I got it 2 weeks later for 1 day only on Oct 9th and I did not get it at the end of the month like usual. I started taking lo loestrin a few days ago to try to avoid it. Will I get my period at that time or will the pills help me avoid my period help please ## Hello, Purple! How are you? It depends on how your body reacts to the pills, you may skip your period, or you may get it anyway. Alternatively, you could also experience some spotting/breakthrough bleeding. Other side effects to oral contraceptives may include nausea, dizziness, headache, bloating, PMS and weight gain. Is ther...
I just realized i never took the two white pills from my last pill pack (lot going on). But i had my period so no worries and was going to just start my next pill pack sunday. However, i did not foresee my dr messing up (long story but will be switching dr.s) so, I was unable to get prescription filled until wednesday; 4 days after I was to begin taking the first pill. So doubling up wed, thurs and fri. I will use another form of b.c. for the next few weeks but am a bit worried that sunday I did not use backup (since I didnt know at the time I wouldnt b able to get b.c. that day). Just wondering how plausible getting pregnant would b because of this scenario? ## Hello, Chris! How are you? There is a slight risk, so if you don't get your next period, you'll want to look into the ...
Hi everyone. 10 days into this pill pack I started having breakthrough bleeding which lasted for 10 days. It wasn't normal at all... it was just brown "discharge" (sorry TMI) and nothing ever heavy enough to soak a pad or use a tampon. On October 2nd I took my last pill in my pack for Lo Loestrin Fe because I decided to discontinue use from here on out because I don't want to be on birth control anymore. It's now October 16th and I still haven't got my period, or any signs or symptoms of it coming. I took 2 pregnancy tests (a week apart from each other) and they were both negative. I'm not sure what's going on or if Lo Loestrin makes you skips period even after discontinued use but I'm a little concerned as to what's going on if i'm having neg...
My doctor put me on lo loestrin fe 1-10 because my cycle was lasting 10-15 days for about 2yrs. I am 41 and before I was 3-5 days at the most. I have been taking the pill for five months. The 1st pack I had the 10-15 day cycle. The 2nd pack I had a 8 day cycle with a little spotting 1week later. The 3 pack I had 2 full days & 2 spotting days. The 4th pack I didn't have a cycle not even spotting. On 5th pack now & still nothing. My doctor said the pills should regulate my cycle but last 2 month I haven't had a cycle. Since teen years I have always had a cycle. The only time it stopped was during pregnancy & depo shot (stopped taking at 25). Is this normal? ## Hello, Nay! How are you? Some women don't have periods, while taking this oral contraceptive and it's ...
I have been taking Lo Loestrin Fe now for almost 2 years! I do not have a period due to my pill. I very rarely miss a pill. I am started week 3 of this pack. During the end of week 2, I had a little bit of blood only when going the restroom. Just a little on toilet paper for the last few days. I am concerned. Too soon for pregnancy test but I took one anyway at home, it was negative. I don't have any symptoms of anything! What could this be? ## Hello, Brooke! How are you? It could just be due to a natural hormonal shift in your body and adding the hormonal contraceptives on top. It happens that way, sometimes. You should consult your doctor to be certain, but chances are that it's nothing to worry about. How long has it been since you haven't had a period? ## Almost two year...
I have been taking lo loestin fe for 10 days and I'm an emotional wreck I hear something on the radio or see something on TV and I start crying, I can be laughing and the next second I'm irritated I hate this and I hate this BC I don't know what to do I also get cramps after an hour of taking it. I gained 5 pounds and eat healthy this is insane. Does anyone know of a good BC because this is not working for me ## Hello, Liz! How are you? Those symptoms can be normal side effects of taking OCs and should improve after a few months, once your body adjusts to the new hormonal balance. Do you normally suffer from PMS and mood swings or is it solely due to taking this? What has your doctor advised?
Hi. Could anyone let me know if I did the right thing? Thanks in advance. I just started taking Lo Loestrin Fe starting last Sunday, which is also the first day of my period (as advised by my gyno). And I take it exactly at 11:25 am everyday including today. Everything was fine until today after I had lunch, I vomitted forcefully at around 2 p.m., probably due to some food allergy. I checked the instruction and it says if you have diarrhea or vommiting within 3-4 hours after taking the pill, you need to follow "missed pill guide", where it says you need to take the missed pill as soon as possible, then take the next pill at regular time. This really confuses me. Since I do not really miss a pill, there is no pill for me to take. So I went ahead and took the pill that I am suppos...
Could I start before my cylce or is it better to wait till the first day ?? ## Hello, Annie! How are you? There is no hard and fast rule, but what you need to know is that if you start it on the first or second day of your period, then you will be immediately protected against pregnancy. However, if you start it at any day later in your cycle, you'll need to take it for a full 7 days, before it becomes effective, so you will have to use some other form of contraception, until the 8th day of taking them. Is there anything else I can help with?
My period is very regular starts 28 days apart like clockwork. Have a big romantic trip and want it to not start on my trip. So Dr. gave me Lo Loestrin Fe 26 pill pack samples to try. My trip is Nov 11-18 with my period to start on the 15th. My next period is due to start Sept 20. How and when should I take the pills. There is no risk of pregnancy... tubes tied ## You should just be able to skip the last four pills and start a new pack. This should prevent you from having a period that month. At the end of the new pack you'll have you period like normal. I had to do this for my wedding. I just skipped a period so basically I went seven weeks between a period. ## Hi! Im running a marathon on nov 4 and just got loloestrin. I started last night and my last period was aug 30. So will th...
Got period on Monday. Went to OBGYN to start BC...Thursday. Insert says to start on the first day of period, but can I start taking it today? Should I start on Sunday? Should I wait until my next period? ## You can actually start it at any time, but if it is later than the 2nd day of your period, you'll need to wait a full 7 days for it to become effective at preventing pregnancy, which means no unprotected intercourse until the 8th day. If you start it the first or second day of your period, it will become immediately effective and no additional protection is needed. Is there anything else I can help with?
