I just started taking Lo Loestrin Fe on Thursday, August 6th, on the first day of my period (in case it matters, I'm 18, 5'1", 100 lbs.). Normally, my periods (regular flow in the first 2-3 days, light flow for the remaining days) last exactly a week, with maybe some brownish or slightly red-tinged discharge for a day or two after the actual bleeding stops (I'll wear a liner for that). I stopped bleeding on Thursday, August 13th, right on schedule, but since then I have still been having a brown discharge. Usually, I can tell when I'm going to get my period a day or two before I actually start bleeding because my discharge will become heavier and either brownish or slightly red tinged (two days before) or dark brown and sort of "mucky" (one day before). Well,...

I've tried many bc pills about 5 years ago always have severe symptoms headaches nausea severe bloating weight gain hair loss. I've been on bio hormone replacement and tolerated pretty well. My doc wants me to switch to lo loestergen fe due to overian cysts endometriosis. Is this pill really that different to not cause those previous symptoms? How long has it been in the Marget? ## Hello, Dee! How are you? This one has been available for many years, but as listed by the FDA, it may still cause those same side effects. The only way to find out is by actually trying it to see how it affects you. Some women do quite well with it and some don't. Other wise effects may possibly include irritability, breakthrough bleeding and PMS-like symptoms. However, many women get great result...

I started my period on my last week of blue pills, today(Monday). I am having a family vacation this weekend and am going to be outside doing active things. Is there anyway I can end my period early if I keep taking the blue pills? Any other suggestions for ending it early? ## Hello, Morgan! How are you? No, it's going to run its course now and there's not really anything that can be done. In the future, you can skip the placebo pills to skip your period, if your doctor approves. Many women do that. The FDA lists the typical side effects of oral contraceptives as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability and PMS-like symptoms. Is there anything else I can help with?

i had my period on may 26 and I stop taking lo loestrin fe on a april 3 and on april 5 i have my period. is that because i stop taking the pill? ## Hello Roxie! How are you? Yes, it was most likely due to stopping it. The sudden drop off in hormones is what usually allows your period to occur. But you should consult your doctor, if you're concerned. Is there anything else I can help with? ## So I stopped taking Lo Loestrin Fe the day before thanksgiving because my body can't take synthetic birth control. We had intercourse with a condom on and he came inside the condom. I'm just scared that I could be pregnant because I stopped taking my birth control. Please answer ASAP ## I have started lo stren fe for 21 days. Now I have stopped this pill five days ago but still my period...

I have been on this pill for two years now and never had a pregnancy issue. I have been having unprotected sex with my boyfriend and I intentionally skipped my withdrawal period the past two months but I stopped the pill last Friday and I haven't got my period yet it's been 9 days and usually I didn't get my period until like day 4 of the inactive pills but I haven't got it yet. I have cramps but no bleeding ... Could I be pregnant? I only missed one pill last Thursday but took it Friday with my last pill of the pack but also had sex that night. Advice??! It seems pretty impossible to get pregnant on this pill when you take it as faithfully as I do. My grandmother also just passed so maybe it is stress but I usually bleed when I'm stressed... HELP! ## Have you consul...

I started Loloestrin fe last month. It went as it was supposed to and then I started the second pack. At the end of week two I started my period. I am halfway through week 3 and my period is still going strong. I have always had a very regular cycle and never experienced anything like this with other pills. I did forget a pill and take it in the morning two days in a row. I am guessing that is why this is happening??? However, why is it not stopping? What should I do? Should I start a new pack? Will I just have to continue to have my period for the next week and a half? ## Hello, Chloe! How are you? Yes, you are most likely correct on the reason this is happening, though it's always best to check with your doctor to be sure. But, by missing pills and taking them late, you can throw ...

I have been taking this medication for only two weeks.. I have a history of depression but never like I feel right now.. I want to throw up all the time.. I have been bleeding since I started it.. Nervous and restless.. Irritable.. And tonight I'm questioning why I am alive.. Server depression-- this is not me ## Fluctuations in your hormones can cause the types of symptoms you've described, so this might not be the right one for you to take. Other possible side effects, as listed by the FDA, may include dizziness, headache, weight gain and irritability. Have you informed your prescriber? There are others available that you can try that have different dosages of the hormones, one of them may work better for you.

Hi Ive been taking this pill for about 1 month and 2 weeks and I randomly started spotting or my period. I don't know what I should do. Should I keep taking the pill or try a new birth control? ## Hi, Laceyyx! When you first start taking hormonal contraceptives, this can happen for the first 3 months or so, as your body is adjusting to the hormones being added. It is completely normal and many women respond that way to the fluctuating hormone levels. If you're very concerned, by all means contact your doctor, but normally you should just continue taking them and give your body some time to get used to them. You aren't going to find any hormonal contraceptives that don't have this possible side effect. Is there anything else I can help you with? ## Yes, can it become heav...

I'm 49 and have been taking lo loestra fe for over 3 years. I've never had break through bleeding until this month- should I be concerned? ## Hello, Karib! How are you? Was your last pap smear normal? If so, there is most likely nothing to worry about, unless your doctor feels there is reason to be concerned. You may just be experiencing a hormonal fluctuation, for some reason, that has caused the bleeding. The FDA lists the other typical side effects of oral contraceptives as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, weight gain and PMS-like symptoms.

I have been taking this birth control pill for about 7 months. I usually am on point with taking it regularly, but recently I noticed a pill still in the pack I should've taken. I have bulimia so my doctor told me to take the pill at night so it will absorb while I sleep. I take it at 9 every night, and I dont remember missing a day. It was Sunday and I noticed the Saturday pill still there. I did take a pill the night before though, so it must've been Fridays. There must have been a night that week where my mind was foggy and I was probably half asleep and forgot to take one but thought I did. I don't pay much attention to the pack so I don't know when I missed a pill but I took that pill I noticed on Sunday morning and took my regular pill on Sunday night. (It was the ...

I was on vacation and forgot to take my blue pills the first two days. I doubled up the next two days based on what I remember (I was in Mexico with no access to internet). Instructions however say if in week 3 or 4 to just start a new pack. I already doubled up. What should I do?? It was end of week 3. ## Hello, KatKlub13! How are you? Unless your doctor instructs otherwise, you could just continue taking them, but make sure to use a backup method of protection, until you've taken 7 days worth of the active tablets, without missing any. The FDA lists the typical side effects of oral contraceptives as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, PMS-like symptoms and breakthrough bleeding. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you so much - I doubled up a...

Hi. I just got my prescription of lo loestrin fe today and my period started a week ago (Thursday) and ended on Saturday. It is now the Thursday after my start day, to start today would I still take the very first blue pill in the package and will it change when my period starts? ## Hello, Mary! How are you? Yes, if you want to start today you can, but you'll need to use backup protection for the first 7 days, because it takes that long for it to become effective in your body. However, if your doctor approves, you can start at any time. And yes, again. Your period should occur the last week of pills, so it would be slightly later that usual. I accidentally took a white tablet instead of a blue one for lo loestrin fe. What do I do?!? ## Hi Sarah, I wouldn't worry. Based on my research, there isn't a huge difference between the blue and white Lo Loestrin Fe pills. The white pills contain 0.1 mg of Ethinyl Estradiol; one of the synthetic estrogens used in most birth controls. The blue pills also contain 0.1 mg of Ethinyl Estradiol plus an additional 1 mg of Norethindrone; which is another type of synthetic estrogen. Basically, you just took a smaller dose of birth control, but not by much. This shouldn't effect you in a major way, you might just experience some light spotting and/or cramping. This is the first month I started taking the Lo Loestrin Fe. It is a "21 day" pack. so I just finished my third week or 21st day yesterday. Should I be getting my period today or within the week? When do I start my new pack? I am especially concerned about when I should start the new pack if I don't start my period. I don't want to go too many days without taking it. ## as soon as you've finished the last pill in your pack you should start the next pack ## Hello, Tina! How are you? You should start the new pack on the 29th day, so you don't take any pills for a week. You should get your period within 2 or 3 days of finishing the active pills. The FDA lists the typical side effects of oral contraceptives as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritabil...

I've been on lo loestrin for about 4 months. I got taken off today due to a weight gain of about 15 pounds, constantly feeling hungry, bloating, breakout, and many other side effects. I start a new pill on Sunday. Just wondering how long it will take to feel like my old self again! It sucks feeling like this! I'm ready to go back to my normal weight and fit into my clothes again! ## Hello, Taylor! How are you feeling? Has there been any improvement, yet? It's difficult to say, it may take another couple months for things to settle down and return to normal. However, the weight gain may not change, since that is a normal side effect of most oral contraceptives, as listed by the FDA. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, breakthrough bleeding and P...

I'm on the forth week of my bc pack. Already finished with the blue pills. I missed my first white pill but took it the next day with my other white pill at the same time. And today I start my brown placebo pills. I also had intercourse the day I took both white pills. Am I protected? Or should I take plan b? ## Hello, Mackenzie! How are you? Plan B is only effective in the first 5 days, after intercourse, so it wouldn't do any good to take it now. It's most effective in the first 24 hours, retains most efficacy for 72 hours, then its effectiveness at preventing pregnancy dwindles and after day 5, it does nothing. Did you start your period? I have been taking lo loestrin fe for about 5 months now. Last week I took one blue pill about 4-5 hours late but every other pill was right on time. Now a week later I had cramps and constant brown / light pink discharge. What is going on? I'm concerned something may be wrong. ## Hello, Hem! How are you? Unless your doctor thinks there is reason to be concerned, there's most likely nothing to worry about. That can happen, when taking oral contraceptives, especially if you took a pill late. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include headache, dizziness, weight gain, irritability and PMS-like symptoms. Is there anything else I can help with?

I am on my first pack of lo loestrin fe pills. I started my period on the second week. I have since missed 2 pills back to back in the fourth week. Now on the third day in the fourth week, i have my period again. Is this normal ? ## Yes, irregular bleeding can occur whenever you start new hormonal contraceptives for about the first 3 months. Then to compound it, you missed pills, which basically induces your menstrual cycle and during the last week of the pack, there are inactive pills that are intended to induce it. Learn more oral contraceptive details here. Are there any other questions I can help with? ## I am on my brown pills I started today. Do I take the brown pills and start new pack after those are done or do I start a new pack because I started after the white pillls?

I am taking lo loestrin since past one year. And I was really happy with it till now. I had a high blood pressure episode that lasted 4-5 days. I was a low bp person usually in range 110/70 . now the bp is lower but stuck at 135/85 range. Even though it is borderline normal. I am thinking did my bcp cause my bp to go higher in past one year ? And if I cobtinue to take will it go even more higher ? I don't want to go on bp medication and would like to avoid bcp if it is a factor. Thanks ## Hello, Rach! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem that you're having. Yes, oral contraceptives that contain estrogens can cause elevated blood pressure, in some women that take them. It may be best to speak to your doctor about stopping it for awhile, to see if it returns to normal...

Hi y'all. I started my new pack of lo loestrin sept 14. Prior to that date my placebos would have been weds, thurs, fri, & sat. I did not take any because I thought the were just sugar pills. So I had my break week I just didn't take the pills. I have not got my period is that suppose to happen? I'm really stressing about it because I don't know if I should have gotten my period please help! ## Hi April, Based on my research, the non-hormonal placebo pills are not meant to serve any therapeutic purpose. So in my opinion it should be ok to simply skip those and not take anything during that time frame if that's what you want to do. I actually heard that the placebos are more so intended to help keep you on track for remembering to take the "active" pills o...
