Period In The Second Week

Updated July 23, 2015

I started Loloestrin fe last month. It went as it was supposed to and then I started the second pack. At the end of week two I started my period. I am halfway through week 3 and my period is still going strong. I have always had a very regular cycle and never experienced anything like this with other pills. I did forget a pill and take it in the morning two days in a row. I am guessing that is why this is happening??? However, why is it not stopping? What should I do? Should I start a new pack? Will I just have to continue to have my period for the next week and a half?

Hello, Chloe! How are you?

Yes, you are most likely correct on the reason this is happening, though it's always best to check with your doctor to be sure.

But, by missing pills and taking them late, you can throw off your hormonal balance and it may take a couple weeks for things to settle back down and return to normal.

Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, weight gain, irritability and PMS-like symptoms.

Do you have a smartphone? If so, you may want to look into getting one of the free prescription reminder apps, to help prevent your forgetting to take them, in the future.
