Lo Loestrin Fe And Perimenopause
UpdatedLast month, I started taking Lo Loestrin FE for perimenopause symptoms. I am 47 years old, My cycles were irregular, messy and for the last few years I have been depressed (off and on), fatigued, low libido, vaginal dryness, crampy, irritable, etc. (you know the drill :) . So, finally, I asked for a low dose combination pill to try and help. So far, the only relief is that my bleeding is 100% better - everything else is a huge mess.
Have any of you experienced perimenopausal RELIEF using LoLoestrin?

Hi Kim, I am on loestrin fe also for persistent bleeding, which it did help with but months later I developed depression and hot flashes and was also put on natural Estradiol which helped tremendously with all. Recently however I missed a loestrin fe and had a few days run of hot flashes, crying and anxiety. Just a heads up to not skip the pills but maybe ask your doctor about Estradiol for the hot flashes etc. Good luck, feel better.
Those can be normal side effects of this medication, according to FDA reports. Sometimes it can cause the same symptoms it is prescribed to treat. This is a known fact about most medications.
It is, however, very unusual that they prescribed this for you, at your age, since the older you are, the more risky it gets to take oral contraceptives, because they can cause blood clots, as well as other complications.
My doctor refuses to prescribe it for anyone over 40. I take Prozac for my perimenopause symptoms, since it has been approved by the FDA to take for it and is much less risky.
How long have you been taking this medication, now?
Since I am still regularly menstruating, the OBGYN feels that taking a low dose combination oral contraceptive is safe due to my health and family history. My friend who is 50 and still menstruating is also taking one. Yesterday, I started my third month and the side effects are improving. I now see big improvement in three areas: decreased cramping, much better moods and decreased fatigue. I am actually working out again. So, I am going to stay with LoLoestrinFe to see if it continues to help.
Message board is old. But curious if Lo Loestrin continued to help?
Re: Red (# 4)
Yes. I have been taking it for over a year. I take it straight thru and don’t do the placebos. No bleeding at all. I’m fine with that. It is good; not perfect. Moods, anxiety, fatigue are improved. I probably went up a size in clothes. That is my only complaint.

Good to hear! I’m 47 and started month 3 and hoping it all improves. I feel like each month gets a little better but the mild depression, irratible at times, minor fatigue and anxiety is still there. Peri menopause stinks!! Wondering if I should go to loestrin 20 instead. So for you just weight gain has been a pain.
Re: Verwon (# 2)
Someone put you on an SSRI for menopause? Jesus that’s awful. I would rather deal with menopause.
